Unfortunately, they are naturally frail and wouldn't live past childhood if it weren't for their magitech implants. Raz is only slightly taller than average, standing at 5'4". The pointed ears are not a genetic trait, but rather a popular body modification, along with the programmable-tattoo-like implants which generally display as orange highlights at the edges of their eyes. Having two Z chromosomes, Raz is functionally hermaphroditic. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details The human race is no longer confined to a single planet in a single star system. Space ships, long-distance portals, and suits for individual space flight have been around for millennia, as common as 21st century public transportation. Across the Milky Way's galactic core from humanity's homeworld, one of many Homo sapiens subspecies have made their home. Although physically weak in their natural form, they've nonetheless created a highly advanced culture through magitech reliance and advanced genetic modification, the new king of medicine. The artificially-created Z chromosome was introduced into humans ages ago to prevent most sex-linked mutations, though nowadays just about any inheritable or mutation-based malady can be reversed long before an infant is extracted from its artificial sac. Magitech designed to grow and develop with the individual is implanted into them at infancy, which slowly replaces their organic body with inorganic magitech as they age, turning death into a metamorphosis from cyborg to pure AI. The implants link the citizens together in an interconnected mental network, allowing for thought-based communication with each other and their devices. [break][break] This was the society into which Raziel was born. [break][break] Raziel, whose true name was a nonverbal pattern of thoughts, was not particularly outstanding compared to the rest of their kind. Their mind was primarily used to store blueprints on magitech devices, which were used to great effect by the inventive child. In their teens, Raz underwent a fairly standard procedure to attain a personalized ability parallel to their interests. There was little pressure to succeed or work, since just about every industry and human need had been automated, or, at the very least, could be easily controlled through thought. Passions were given room to grow and develop freely, and every scientific endeavor could be given access to the necessary tools and assistants. One of Raz's closest friends, a history buff, wished to work with the young magitech tinker and a few others to advance time machines. Time travel across short chronological distances was fairly well understood and a common capability at this point, but going back in magnitudes of multiple thousands or even millions of years was not yet mastered by these humans. [break][break] It would have been nice if their eventual success led to great historical discoveries and an optimistic future, but the universe is not such a forgiving place. Raziel and their friends found themselves forced to use the partly tested device in a time of cataclysmic ruin. To escape the destruction? To change the course of their species' fate? Each had their own motivations as they were flung into the unknown with little hope of returning. [break][break] At the time, Raz had been driven by fear. [break][break] The young adult appeared in Kingsport just a few years ago, alone and disconnected from everyone of their kind. All things considered, they've adjusted fairly well since then, but continue to wish that they'll find others from their time one day. Many of the hard components act as an internal armor to protect the important organic organs beneath from physical and magical attacks alike. They can absorb high levels of magical energy, electricity, light, and heat to convert into usable energy for their assorted functions, described below in greater detail. [attr="class","subcat"]ai-supplemented mind Self-modifying magitech hardware embedded in Raz's brain provides virtually limitless storage for memories, highly efficient and intricate thought processes, calculator-like computation, accelerated learning, and a means of telepathic communication with others who either contain the same type of device (tragic few do in this time period) or wear a cerebral linking device (commonly used to safely communicate with aliens; Raz has recently managed to construct a few). Any mental / emotional abilities only affect Raz as well as they'd affect inorganic AI. [attr="class","subcat"]data link This magitech component of Raz's body eliminates the need for external devices such as phones, computers, and so-on. They are capable of detecting, interpreting, blocking, and creating transmissions to/from other devices, whether they be electronic, digital, radio, or magitech-based. Consequently, this can prevent external sources from attempting to control the magitech within Raz's body. [attr="class","subcat"]internal nanomachines Raz's people are required to contain nanomachines in their body for preventative and reactive medical care. These little bots attack diseases, counteract harmful substances, patch up physical wounds in just a few minutes (at least to the point where the body is in a stable condition), replace lost limbs given a few days, and give Raz regular updates on all the data they collect. They are capable of self-replicating to maintain their numbers, but can also harmlessly self-destruct upon Raz's mental command in case they've exited their body. [attr="class","subcat"]internal chemical reactor A hidden hatch at Raz's side opens to a fist-sized cavity which can identify chemical substances and sequence genetic material. Substances can be changed from one to another, though the reaction time ranges from seconds to days depending on the reactants and desired product. This can be useful for attaining rare materials or determining someone else's gene-granted powers. If Raz is desperately low on oxygen or some other vital substance, this chamber will automatically begin to cannibalize their less important body parts to create what is needed. [attr="class","subcat"]inorganic solid manipulation Raziel has been genetically modified to develop telekinetic abilities to assist with their hobby of magitech tinkering. They are limited to moving and shaping (not generating) inorganic solids, such as metals and plastics, but have incredibly precise control and enough sheer power to lift a pair of full semi-trailer trucks. This ability subconsciously blocks others' abilities from manipulating the magitech within Raz's body, but can itself move these devices to achieve flight. [attr="class","subcat"]magitech clothes This unreactive synthetic material acts as a durable second skin with dynamic stiffness variations for maximum comfort, flexibility, and support. The style can be altered at will, such as adding a face covering or loosening into a robe. It provides temperature and pressure control, an oxygen filter, cleaning services, and prevents spells from targeting the wearer directly (such as induced bodily mutations, not a fireball aimed at them). The black sections covering the hands are capable of projecting three-dimensional holograms, albeit clearly artificial to anyone with average senses. [attr="class","subcat"]magitech mechanic Raziel is skilled in creating and repairing magitech devices. Unfortunately, what they've made on Earth is all quite small due to their lack of access to abundant materials and hesitancy to dramatically change the course of scientific advancement. The most notable devices made thus far: cerebral linking devices which allow safe telepathic communication between Raz's people and others wearing identical devices, bands of teleportation which can blink Raz's body anywhere on the planet, and reconnaissance bots shaped like insects and songbirds flitting around the city. |
