With skies dark and the music from their homeworld playing in their mind, Raziel drifted aimlessly over the rooftops of Old Town. Almost every person on this planet was alone with their thoughts, and Raz was having difficulty coming to terms with the fact that this would likely be their reality for many years to come. Loud voices. Cool concrete. Bright advertisements glamorizing a consumerist ideal. All of it still felt unnerving to the little mechanic lost in time, though they had been making significant progress in understanding this world. Tuning out what was "normal" for this time, they could more easily spot oddities within the context of this era rather than getting caught up in the flood of differences when compared to their own society.
Demons, for example, were an undoubtedly notable oddity, especially demons who were wandering around alone in the dark, muttering to themselves. Raz could see it happening right now from the eyes of one of their convincingly realistic magitech birds as it flitted along the alleyway to keep the target of interest within its sights. Strangely enough, this was not the first time that Raz had seen this particular demon. The mechanic was honestly rather surprised that the Initiative hadn't found issue with it yet, as there was no indication that anyone quite like this was within their ranks. Raz had checked. Twice. Although this was likely for the best in the grand scheme of things, Raz wasn't sure that the creature's ability to wander freely would be able to continue indefinitely without something going wrong.
Although there were plenty of other happenings going on through the eyes of Raz's many other constructs -- parties, thefts, shady deals, and heartfelt confessions -- there was no place or reason for Raz to interfere, so they simply watched. The demon, however, maintained an empty isolation around him, open for others to fill, should they dare. Raz had no reason to believe that the wellbeing of this creature would have a dramatic effect on the future timeline, so there was no logical reason for their interference beyond the itching desire for interaction. For Raz, that was reason enough.
With a quick mental signal to the smooth bands around their wrists and ankles, Raz's surroundings appeared to change instantly. Instead of a star-speckled sky above their heads, Raz now hovered between cold walls and a shadowy overhang from the buildings along this alleyway. Before them loomed the back of the demon. With arms hanging loosely beneath their white, flowing robes and a voice soft, but clear, the mechanic made themselves known. "Are you looking for something?" It was not a threat, but an inquiry of genuine curiosity. "I have no intent to stop you from your business, but I've noticed this isn't the first time you've wandered the city like this."
