The last time he had made a public speech was during the 90's, during the time he was still kind of important to the political cloud of Kingsport. That speech was attended by thousands at the time, maybe even tens of thousands if one wanted to hog glory. Then again, every mayor and politician always gathered a crowd, be it now or then. The only thing that has changed about him is the hair. Grayed out. John Doe hadn't lost any of his charm from the 80's, still decked out in a suit fitting of the times, with an almost stylish eyepatch added to the mix. He lost that eye during his first tenure. One of those accidents. You know, nothing very major. Everyone lost an eye once or twice. His mind was rambling by now. Focus, John, focus.
"It'll go just fine, dad." Jonathan sighed and corrected his hat a little bit. "Me and Martha will be in the crowd watching. And besides, it's not like you're holding a very important speech or anything." Jonathan spoke in an almost joking tone, punching John's shoulder ever so slightly. John wasn't wearing his suit today. This event wasn't about the Senator. It wasn't about his rank or his heroic deeds to defend the citizens of Kingsport. This event was just to remember those fallen during these recent and turmoil filled years. "Son, just get back there and sit down." John's voice was almost strained from the excitement he felt. This was what he missed. Being... Here.
"Whatever you wish, dad. Good luck out there." Jonathan tipped his wide brimmed hat and moved over away trough the back, making his way to his seat in the front row. The area wasn't very filled. Some families. Older veterans. Family friends. Some random people who just happened to notice the speech that was held. This was a good way to get back into the swing of things. John tightened his tie and walked onto the small platform built for him, coughing into the mic to test if it was working. Before he could say anything, the energetic "announcer" the local newspaper had hired him spoke.
"And now, speaking for the fallen of the recent year's catastrophes and super villain victims, Senator, John Doe!"
Dammit.
