Ascension has hung out in Arkham for decades, even before the alien invasion happened. Its members are fairly helpful people, in the sense that if you have money, you get what you want from them. And they'll gladly provide.
Ever since the Initiative started heavily meddling with Arkham, Ascension has only one hard and fast rule: Don't turn Arkham into an unlivable patch of earth.
They don't necessarily like mutants; there are cases where their dislike have been taken to the extreme. Most of them are happy to co-exist. But none of them question the fact that the main bulk of Ascension's members are made up of mostly augmented humans who can hold their own against mutants and otherworldly beings.
The Chairperson is said to often act as mediator between villains in the Reservoir's safehouse. Influencers manage businesses in Arkham, Old Town, and aboard the Borgata. Gunners are the ones doing the dirty work. Researchers are their R&D, and the main driving force behind their augmentations.
Ascension has an elite army of guards called The Rise. They are comprised of sixteen elite fighters whose abilities have been enhanced by augmentations.

the bounty high-score game It started in Arkham. Prices were placed upon people's lives and survival skills. A simple rule governs the way the game goes: Get to the top of the ranks.
Today it is played in both Old Town and Arkham. There is a small fanbase in Sentinel Hill. Small-time players play to earn themselves some quick cash; professional players do it for the reputation, infamy, and constant test of skills.
No-one really knows who runs the game, or how you get invited, but participants know which bars to go for requests that add to their bounty value. Completing requests as a man-for-hire adds value to your high-score depending on how difficult the task is. Hiring someone else to do your task for you and splitting the bounty according to a prior agreement is also acceptable.
There's also an easier way to play the game: Killing other participants adds their value to your high score, which is why it's called the bounty high-score.
The official ranks (across all three areas) go up to #250. Anyone below #250 has a negligible net worth in terms of the bigger picture, but killing them awards $50k to your bounty high-score. Local ranks go up to only #100.
It is possible to cash in your high score for rewards. People have done it before, but the reputation from being in the overall top #50 is more valuable than riches to most major players.
Rumours say that the Ascension started the game to help cull the amount of superpowered people running around in Arkham, but hearsay usually turns out untrue.
