He was a bit of an odd child. His imaginary friends, as he would often claim, were very real and followed him around a lot. His parents were concerned when Mitchell still had imaginary friends at age twelve. After 2008 hit and superheroes became popular, his parents took Mitchell to a weird doctor (who apparently had secret powers, but that's neither here nor there). Turns out that he was born with the ability to see the "spirit world" and ghosts (along with humans and the "normal" plane). Something to do with the day of his birth and the usual creepiness that comes with October and Friday the thirteenth. [break][break] Anyway, it was kind of annoying for Mitchell to deal with ghosts and other freaky creatures that others around him couldn't see. He kept his powers a secret, thinking that he'd be pressured into joining the Initiative. That would've been a pain in the ass for him to deal with. (Mitch wasn't a big fan of superheroes. He thought they had to shoulder too much responsibility.) So he focused on his studies, much to his parents' delight. Despite being plagued by ghosts and demons and whatsits, Mitch did pretty well in school. (Even though he had to fight off a couple dumb ghosts every once in a while to get them off his back.) He skipped a grade or two somewhere along the line and graduated from high school early. [break][break] He didn't have plans to go to college and he didn't want to bother his parents with his freaky powers (since the ghosts kept his parents up with their noisy antics), so Mitch moved out when he was seventeen. He worked odd jobs to keep up with rent while testing out the full extent of his powers. Apparently spirits liked to bother everyone, including people who couldn't see them like Mitch could. Though there were some who were aware of the spirits. They taught him a little about the spirit world while he did some research on his own. [break][break] Armed with a better understanding of the spirit world and his powers, Mitch set up shop as a vigilante while working as a part-timer at a small cafe near his dingy apartment. Finally, he could get paid for beating the shit out of ghosts. Even if he didn't, he could help take down petty criminals with his astral constructs and fists. But sometimes he wondered from time to time if he should've taken up the name Ghostbuster instead of The Exorcist. He can also see and touch the inhabitants of the spirit world, like monsters, demons, and ghosts. In turn, they can also see and touch him. Unfortunately, he can't turn off his vision at will so he's stuck with a bunch of spirits that want to raise hell in his life. Seeing spirits 24/7 has made Mitch a little... paranoid. He's also susceptible to stuff that goes on in the spirit world including but not limited to: possession, being spirited away, cursed, etc. [attr="class","subcat"]astral resistance Of course after getting possessed that one time, Mitch researched and found ways to prevent it from happening again. He's charmed and warded the fuck out of his apartment and constantly wears at least five charms that ward away demons and malicious ghosts. That isn't going to prevent some deity or a really persistent demon from taking over his body or whatever, but at least he has some form of protection. [attr="class","subcat"]astral constructs Along with astral vision, Mitch can also manipulate astral energy from the spirit world to form constructs. He can only make two at most (even that much is pushing it) and form inanimate objects that don't shoot out projectiles, like a sword or a bookshelf. The biggest he can make them is 666 centimeters (or about 22 feet) in any one dimension. Mitch cannot freely manipulate his constructs once they're formed, so he often must dispel a construct before making a new one (but this usually drains him of his energy). However, Mitch can freely wield his constructs with little to no difficulty. [attr="class","subcat"]spirit sealing Upon researching a little more about the spirit world, Mitch has learned how to trap spirits into inanimate objects. Though it's more like Mitch shoving spirits into things and caging them in with a spoken contract. He has to be very careful with his terms and wording, otherwise he might end up losing his soul or whatever. This is usually a last resort for when intimidating or kicking the shit out of spirits isn't enough. [attr="class","subcat"]hand-to-hand combat Mitch had a lot of practice fighting ghosts in school, supplemented with lessons in tai chi and boxing. He's no master, but he's proficient enough to kick a lesser demon's ass. Also he has good reflexes. [attr="class","subcat"]intelligence He graduated from high school when he was sixteen. Granted, it was a public high school and he wanted to get out as soon as possible to avoid having his powers revealed to his peers. Still, he has excellent memory and he's good at research, analysis, and strategy. Though his decision-making skills leave much to be desired. |
