Short-term emotional issues: Since the death of his wife, Jack has had issues with depressive episodes, spurts of uncontrolled anger and some addictive tendencies using alcohol as a medium.

Goals/motivations: Jack's overall goal is to fill the void that was created by the death of his wife. Having attempted to fill it with rare episodes of vigilante hero work and a lot of alcohol has not made much progress. At this point, hes mostly a vigilante for the sake of trying to fill his time with anything that would help him forget. Ultimately, while he does have a sense of justice it has been somewhat distilled by a genuine disappointment. To summarize, Jack is attempting to find not just something worth fighting for, but something worth living for.

• Born to Michael and Trisha Vinland in the city of Austin, Texas.
• Was not born with superhuman abilities and as such lived a surprisingly normal childhood.
• During high school years Jack began dating the woman with whom he would eventually marry Melissa Torres.
• At the age of 18, joined the US army.
• At the age of 20, married Melissa Torres, who revealed she was in fact a member of the initiative.
• Tour was cut short three years later, while on base in Texas, was exposed to an alien timespace phenomenon that killed 10 men inside a barracks. 48 hours after Jack was declared dead, his bodily functions and consciousness resumed, unaware of what had transpired. After the incident, Jack was directed to the initiative and joined willingly. He moved to Kingsport as part of this agreement.
• A year ago,Tragedy struck Vinland when, during a rather personal operation he undertook at the request of the United States government, his wife was killed. The details were kept secret by the initiative and the US government. Not long after this after this, Jack resigned and left the initiative behind...
• After a year of both hiding and attempting (and failing) to drown his sorrows, Jack returned to Kingsport for unknown reasons.

After the incident in which Jack's powers were granted to him, virtually his entire physiology was changed in some way. While the mechanism of this change is not clearly understood beyond his body seeming to be comprised of an extremely powerful unknown energy, the results are incredibly apparent. Most of the aspects of Vinland's physiology have been enhanced to extremely high superhuman levels. The strongest of which are some of his primary attributes, such as strength, speed/reflexes, agility/precision, durability and capacity to heal.

Jack's strength is perhaps the most measurable quantity, with estimates from military tests having him clock in at an astonishing 100 ton lift capacity. His strength is also high enough that it allows him to perform remarkable vertical and horizontal leaps far beyond what an ordinary person is capable of (let alone survive the landing of). His speed and reflexes are also quite incredible, as he is capable of dodging bullets or moving at speeds over short distances that can be exceedingly difficult for a normal human to track. His agility and precision compound this, with Jack having an incredible level of control over his abilities and superhuman precision that allows him to move with machine-like efficiency. In terms of durability, physical and energy damage in most forms is rendered negligible unless it is of truly incredible force or strength. Moreover, Jack's physiology allows him to survive without oxygen and in areas that otherwise might be inhospitable to humans (Extreme heat, Extreme Cold or even in the Vaccum of space).

Finally, Jack's ability to physically heal is something truly astonishing. Minor wounds heal within a matter of minutes, and major ones a matter of hours. While it may take a matter of days, even debilitating wounds such as a lost limb or a severely broken bone could heal completely.

Jack is by no means invincible though. Despite his body's base structure being composed of energy, magic seems to be able to bypass some of his resistance. While Jack does have an incredibly complex mind structure and extremely fast thought processes, it is possible to affect it with various techniques if one has enough skill and can overcome his willpower.

As a result of his new energy-based physiology, Jack has gained one other power. The power to create, shape and manipulate a special "Pyroclastic" energy that consists of highly-concentrated plasma. Vinland is capable of shaping this energy into various kinds of simple shapes, or simply launching it in a wide variety of devastating projectiles. While the heat and kinetic impact of the projectile varies greatly upon how much focus is put into it, even a very weak blast can cause 2nd degree burns and knock an average person on their feet. Vinland also has the benefit of being immune to any energy he himself emits, as any energy that would damage him (or should he be unlucky enough, his clothing) is simply absorbed back into his body.

However this power is by no means faultless. Jack has a limited reserve of how much of this energy he can safely emit before it starts to affect his physical condition. Emitting too much will weaken him or, should he overdo it to an extreme degree, render him unconcious. Extreme cold energy can also greatly reduce the thermal damage of pyroclastic energy, as the two mostly cancel each other's thermal out on contact (though the kinetic impact of the pyroclastic energy will remain).

Vinland has undergone a great deal of training throughout his life. The most notable of which is his US army training, in which he was trained as an enlisted specialist mechanic. As a result, he knows his way around an engine and also knows a great deal about combat, firearms and their use, and other skills that he would be trained in circa the united states military. Both due to the military and due to his late wife, he also speaks spanish fluently and german decently.

Thanks to the initiative, Jack has undergone even more rigorous training to focus his talents and hone his abilities. As a result, hes highly tactically aware and has a strong grasp of hand-to-hand combat (but is by no means a master). He is also has a basic knowledge of the initiative's inner workings, and thus is a capable and reliable ally and a highly formidable combatant.
