It's possible to find her at a bar, but she actually can stop any time that she wants to. As with most of her skills, she's perfected the hunt to a cold, businesslike craft. She's a go-getter, but she doesn't mind waiting for the sake of a perfect kill. [break][break]Her cold fury can seldom be dissuaded; she's considered every alternative already. Even if she settled on the worst one. Olympian habits die hard. [break][break] She is the woods-runner, the woman who listens to the forests and the streams. She sees no need to hurry, not when all paths eventually drew to the same destination. She would be there with her bow in hand. [break][break] Artemis is rather sadistic: she has a certain style when she hunts. First, she allows you to believe yourself free. Then she directs you into a dead end. Then she picks off your limbs slowly until you realize just how helpless you really are. That's when she kills you. Or the Initiative takes you away, if the hunt isn't personal. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details The Greek pantheon lives on Mount Olympus, an extra-dimensional planet made more easily accessible through Hyperborea. The Olympians regularly visited Earth in the prehistoric era up through earliest antiquity.[break][break]Artemis is the first child to Leto, twin to Apollo, and daughter to Zeus. Artemis didn't take too well to Olympus with all the family infighting, so she needed no prodding to go back to the planet of her birth. Pan made a gift of hunting dogs to her, and she obtained a bow upon her arrival. For the most part, she left the humans alone. Only those who were already exceptional hunters would enjoy her favor. [break][break] Hunters like Orion-- well. She doesn't talk about Orion. Other men interpret her chastity as a challenge. Artemis corrects them sternly by turning them into prey. [break][break] In truth, Artemis never actually left earth. She got the memo, but just didn't care. Earth is her playground, and daddy dearest let her keep it. Occasionally she returned to Olympus to visit Apollo and Leto, but what she really desired was the solace of being away from the Olympians. During the European era of exploration, she boarded a few ships in search of new beast vassals. Things managed to remain simple - for a time. [break][break] Then the humans transformed the Earth. They overhunted. They destroyed both the environment and each other. The nature of the game changed. Artemis changed with them. The hunter always has to follow the tracks of the deer. [break][break] Admittedly, she signed on with the Initiative with her brother because she wanted [PTab=IV.] [attr="class","appcat"]powers [attr="class","apptext"] [/PTab={tab-background-color:#1f4654;height: 420px; background-color: #1c1d1e; padding: 5px;text-align:justify;][/PTabbedContent={width: 310px;tab-background-color:#1c1d1e;border-color:#1c1d1e;tabgap:1}][newclass=.appcat]background-color:#111;text-align:center;font-family:open sans condensed;text-transform:uppercase;font-weight:900;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass][newclass=.apptext]height:390px; margin: 15px 5px 0px 5px; padding: 0px 15px; overflow: auto;[/newclass][newclass=.subcat]color:#e5e5e5;font-family: open sans condensed; margin: 15px 0px 5px -10px;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass][newclass=.subcat1]color:#e5e5e5;text-transform:uppercase;font-family: open sans condensed; margin: 0px 0px 5px -10px;[/newclass][attr="class","subcat1"]olympian physiology Like other Olympians, Artemis does not age. She is not terribly concerned with explosives, disease, or radiation. She isn't bulky compared to the other "gods", but she makes up for it in sheer speed. Don't flatter yourself into thinking that you can dodge her attacks without super speed. Her strength is immense, and she hasn't met any prey that she can't out-last. [break][break] Olympians, like many ancient "deities," were once capable of miracles at-will when on Earth, due to a natural ability to harness Earth's energies. This energy has evolved enough (or simply depleted) over the centuries that Olympians are limited to small boons of luck or curses of minor misfortune. [break][break] When an Olympian dies, their soul is sent to Underworld. [attr="class","subcat"]archery The only true defense against her archery is accepting that she's better at it than you. And then accepting that she will hit you, regardless of your speed or cover. Her golden bow is a sight to behold, and her quiver automatically refills itself with arrows. Their metal tips are laced with a poison that is somehow more potent to females. These archery skills also translate to spear-throwing. [attr="class","subcat"]beast lordship She can control any animal within her range. To some extent, she can summon her favorites (deer, dogs, bears, boars, hawks) from the wild. In urban centers, she'll often use stray cats and rodents as her spies. [attr="class","subcat"]shapeshifting Artemis can take the form of the animals associated with her lore. [attr="class","subcat"]enhanced senses Artemis can hear the sound of an animal breathing through its nose. She can smell that tuna sandwich on your breath, even if you brushed your teeth afterwards. She has perfect vision and she can generally sense when you've got impure intentions towards her. Best of all, she can turn the knob on her senses to avoid getting overwhelmed. |
