Maverick is a mutant who falls into the chaotic neutral range of vigilantes. He's not necessarily a villain, but certainly not a hero either, as much as he'd like to claim to be one. Collateral damage is almost guaranteed and he does what he must to get a job done, no matter the consequences. Most of the time his alignment relies on his own personal gain and will favor whatever side benefits him the most. He doesn't wish to intentionally harm people though and seeks admiration or more specifically, positive attention. As a free spirit, he seeks freedom and dislikes regulations and rules that may hinder him, hence his refusal towards registering.[break][break]








Derrick Grymes was a man destined for greatness! You just wouldn't know that because he had a rather humble background. His parents had dropped him off at an orphanage just outside of their home state, leaving the young boy with hardly any memories of them to go off on. Probably better that way, to be quite honest, as he wasn't old enough to be cursed with any lasting sense of abandonment and has since gotten over the whole ordeal, no longer concerned with having that ideal household. Instead he had plenty, some that were amazing for the short time he could enjoy it and others he was desperate to get out of.[break][break]

He constantly found himself returned like some unwanted pet, something about his behavior being too difficult to deal with, he doesn't quite know. He'd have you believe they just couldn't handle having such a cool kid and it was simply their loss. It went on for many years until Derrick finally had enough of it all and decided to leave the scene and take care of himself, running away from his last family and starting off on his own. It went about as well as you could expect.[break][break]

Lacking proper education and hugely lacking in funds, Derrick was constantly juggling multiple jobs in hopes of maintaining a life. Though he struggled, he could never truly say he regretted his actions, finding the lifestyle hard most certainly, but offering him a much needed sense of freedom. He'd just appreciate if he weren't living by paycheck and could get something more out of life.[break][break]

His life changed, for better or worse, when he discovered this job that was advertising an unbelievable amount of money. He was skeptical, but with nothing to lose he checked it out, becoming a literal lab rat for this hush-hush organization who were hoping to build super soldiers or some shit. He couldn't quite remember the details, more focused on the fact he was being offered 1K for simply hearing them out, and would get even more if he actually participated in their experiments. Needless to say, he was interested. But damn if it wasn't costly![break][break]

There were times when Derrick hadn't been sure he'd even survive the ordeal, being subjected to borderline torturous experiments. Miraculously he kept that spirit up, despite it all, and ended up being the few who did survive, becoming a mutant with enhanced abilities that would surely serve them well in the inevitable wars. Too bad that he wasn't all that interested in following up with that little part, a rebel at heart. He managed to make his escape and was hunted down for years, fending them off accordingly.[break][break]

Since then he's managed to stay off their radar, travelling across the states until he found himself in Kingsport. He's been putting his acquired skills to use for years now, and has been a thorn in both villains and the Initiative's sides. And so the story goes!

He may act incredibly arrogant, but it's not exactly without merit in this case. He was told he was born a natural, a master in the way of the sword, and while he has no trouble reiterating that, actual practice came into play as well. Maverick can weild a sword with incredible proficiency at an almost superhuman rate. His movement is fast, strong, and most certainly deadly, granting him the ability to preform amazing feats, such as deflecting bullets and slicing through solid materials with relative ease. His sword is practically an extension of himself and he is able to strike with great precision.



An ability who's name says it all. Some refer to it as instinct or maybe even a sixth sense, but the gist of it is, he can sense incoming dangers at a superhuman level and react accordingly. This gives him a higher evasion chance but also grants him the ability to track down trouble (and avoid it most of the time). With higher reflexes and an acute awareness to his surroundings, it makes it difficult to get the jump on him, unless of course there are multiple onslaughts at once, making it difficult to track each movement, or more devastatingly, an attack from someone he'd otherwise trust.



As the name would imply, Maverick is incredibly durable and can take multiple hits before succumbing to the effects. This means that even if injured in a fight, he can carry on long before it actually disables him. Strikes that could normally kill average folks would only serve to stun him. It should be noted that this isn't invulnerability, as he can most certainly feel pain and can only take so many hits before it does take effect. He's still capable of dying, just merely has a better pain tolerance than most and a higher level of endurance.



It's described as the ability to rapidly respond or change by adapting. He uses a combination of balance, bodily coordination, speed, reflexes, strength and endurance in order to survive. He's incredibly athletic and excels in gymnastics, being both flexible and speedy. Most notably is his ability to jump incredible distances without risking injury.
