Texas may belong to Phoenix, but her ambition does not stop there. The goal is to have the entire United States, and eventually the world, under her thrall. To that end she has sent one of her most powerful lieutenants, @coal , to conquer North Carolina for her. An S-ranked hero even before the gift of Phoenix was granted unto him, Hades is now a terrifying power to behold.
Be careful, would-be saviors of the Earth. This is an event thread meant for 2-3 to characters to fight Hades. Please wait for the Phoenix-empowered opponent to post first and set the stage, and then jump in. General plotting for the Phoenix fights can be found here, and feel free to Skype and/or PM your thread-mates to discuss how the fight goes. Staff will step in if necessary. |

Death.
That was in the air. So sweet. Hades had never ever felt so alive up until now. This was so....thrilling.
Hades looked down in his clenched fist and suddenly a small fire began to form around his fist. However it wasn't a physical fire. It was more of an energy. Bestowed to him by the Phoenix Force that was being wielded by his new companion Maria. What a strange encounter it truly was. It was like he was just attracted and magnetized to power. Power beyond the stars. Hades stood there in the middle of this beautiful field. What a beautiful place to end everything, such an irony. It was the only place in all of the United States that wasn't plagued and pillaged by war and despair and that was all about to change. How fitting. He looked upon the field and then towards the sky knowingly full well who would be coming for him. It was strange to even think about it all.
So Hades waited. He waited in the middle of the field surrounded by the yellow flowers as a small breeze walked by. No where to hide for miles. Just face to face.
A small breeze. The final omen. This would end all be all.

The gentle summer breeze that was blowing through the peaceful field of North Carolina suddenly changed into raging winds. These winds began to swirl together and in the sky above a miniature hurricane began to form with Hades smack dab in the center, in the eye of the storm. The flowery field around him began to rumble and shake from some unknown force. The yellow flowers that littered the field began to move, being drawn to a spot a few yards from Hades as they began to take the shape of a seven foot tall woman. Finally, a strike of lightning hit the flowery form and an earthquake occurred at the same time, originating from where the flowers stood. The flash light dimming one could see that in the place of the flowers stood Mother Nature herself, Gaea. Opening her eyes, she dispelled the storm above and allowed the sun to shine through the clouds once more. The sea blue orbs locked onto the pale being before her. Her grandson, Hades. God of Death and Lord of the Olympian Underworld, Gaea did not feel so much akin to him as she did his brothers. Each of them commanded a force of nature: water and earth for Poseidon, air and lightning for Zeus, and death for Hades. However, unlike the other two, Hades actively sought to shift the balance of nature in his favor and it would seem he has returned to this destructive nature. There was one thing different this time though. Gaea was awake and ready to stop him. "Stop this foolishness, child." Gaea ordered, her voice shaking the earth itself. She would give her own kin a chance to revise his earlier decision to pledge his support to this foreign entity before she destroyed him. Donning her silver vibranium armor and glowing white silk tunic, the grandmother of Hades was a terrifyingly stunning sight. The All Mother spoke once more, adding, "Lest you face the wrath of she who created the world you wish to conquer."[attr="class","pink"] [attr="class","purple"] [attr="class","blue"] [attr="class","cred"]VEL OF WW[newclass=.blue]width:400px;background-color:#6F6D44;height:11px;[/newclass] [newclass=.purple]width:400px;background-color:#9EB04C;height:8px;[/newclass] [newclass=.pink]width:400px;background-color:#CBDF9A;height:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.game]width:350px;background-color:#fcfcfc;padding:25px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamelyrics]font-size:8px;font-family:verdana;color:#9fb2bb;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamebody]font-size:10px;font-family:verdana;color:#777;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;padding:20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamebody b]color:#9fb2bb;[/newclass] [newclass=.gametag]opacity:0.8;text-align:center;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:8px;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:8px;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

| It feels like a long time ago that Apollo spoke prophecy about Phoenix Force. When he did, he'd never thought he'd meet Hades on the field.
On the topic of people he thought would be unrelated to Phoenix Force, Apollo also never thought he'd meet Gaea here either.
Apollo arrives in a halo of light, without his shining armor but he conjures his arrows into his hand. The armor isn't likely to be very useful against Hades anyway--and he's won't need them against Gaea, should it come to that, because he doesn't need the gift of prophecy to know his odds against her.
He lands, and he hears Gaea speak. At first, he's thankful that Gaea was no ally of Hades'. A second later, he feels a chill as he wonders whether even Gaea's strength is enough to outmatch Hades empowered by Phoenix Force.
"Great Mother," Apollo says softly, by way of greeting.
The last time he saw Hades, he lowered his bow--out of respect for his uncle and for the Lord of the Underworld. This time, he didn't lower his bow, but he waited for a response to Gaea.

Another rumble shakes the earth. Artemis didn't arrive alone. Instead, she brought an army of dogs, bears, tusked boars, and hawks. Every one of them were fully willing to give up their lives to their lady. It's fortunate, since she required it.
The army of five hundred arrived before their general. They had traveled from all over the eastern United States to heed her call. They are the earth's children. It's only fair that they should have a chance to defend their lives, their territories, and their young.
They fill up the battlefield in waves. Artemis is in the last wave to arrive, where an archer should be. She has no desire to speak to Hades, or to hear any excuses that he has to offer. All that she wants to know is when they are going to paint the field with red. Gaea complicates matters, but only by the span of ten seconds. She holds back the army for the sake of appeasing her. After that, there will be no armistice for Hades.
Hades, who had sold himself into servitude. She is ashamed to call him uncle - no uncle of hers should be so weak. No, she is not here for speeches and platitudes. She is here to hunt the firebird.

Interesting.
Gaea had presented herself in front of Hades standing practically on the other side of the field. His grandmother stood in her place and called out to Hades telling him to stop this all, and threatened him with consequences. Hades chuckled on the inside. What a foolish old bitch she was. Hades did not care for consequences or the lives to be destroyed. He was all in it for the fun and excitement of it all. For centuries he was forced to behave, overpowered by the wave of humans who wielded the power of the gods. Now he had the ability to control more than he ever could. Imbued with the phoenix force he was granted all the power he needed to change the world. They didn't understand the magnitude that Hades has been left in.
Suddenly a light opened up and Apollo came down from the sky, wielding his sickly bow and arrow that aimed to pierce through Hades. Futile. Suddenly animals began to run towards the field gathering on the side of Gaea and Apollo and Hades already knew who was the next challenger. Artemis. With a wave of his hand Hades would also build his army, as a souls began to form and revealing an army of the undead, numbers matching of what Artemis had brought to the battlefield. Foolish Artemis brought animals of the earth but their numbers were limited. But Hades had the arsenal of all the undead soldiers in the underworld throughout all the centuries. He would have been fine to fight just as the gods but if they insisted on using our familiars then Hades had no other choice.
"Grandmother! Why you look amazing. You don't look a day over 3 billion. What moisturizer do you use?" Hades cracked. In a normal circumstance he wouldn't have angered Gaea but he was confident. "Nephew. Nice to see you so soon. Thank you for informing me of this power" He nodded in thanks to Apollo. "And niece. Good to se you. I see you've brought your friends. I guess it's true what they say. Bitches run in packs." With that he wraith form his lower body and began to fly and hover above his army. "COME FAMILY!" Hades said "LET'S BRING DESTRUCTION TO THIS COUNTRY!" Hades did not care what happened to this country. So if Gaea decides to create earthquakes and fissure and volcanos to combat him then she would risk what she stood protecting. Or atleast what her niece and nephew protected. And anything less of a natural disaster would not be sufficient in stopping Hades now.

Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, brought an army of beast to command her bidding. These beast knew their true master as well, as they paused for a moment in honor of Gaea, something the True Mother would not forget. Apollo, God of Light, came forth in an array of light with his holy bow drawn and notched. He too payed his respects to Gaea. A family gathering such as this hand't happened in... Ever. It would seem the fate of this reunion was up to Hades, and Gaea only hoped he would choose to stop the violence before it occurred. Her hopes vanished as soon as Hades opened his pale little mouth. He dared to insult Gaea, a gesture none had done in billions of years, well before Hades had even been born to her daughter. As Hades rose into the air, summoning his armies, Gaea spoke, her voice ringing through the air like the winds of a hurricane, "You are a fool Hades Serpius, son of Rhea and Cronus, grandson of myself and Uranus! This alien invader has poisoned your mind to the point of idiocy and given you false confidence." Around the Great Goddess, hundreds of golems began to rise from the ground, each eerily resembling soldiers of the Civil War. With her army forming, Gaea waved a hand over them, saying, "Rise, my children. Take a new form, one which will grant you strength and immunity against your fallen brethren." The many golems were imbued with the spirits that had once fallen upon the flower field nearly two centuries ago in a battle of the American Civil War. "Destroy their forms and let their spirits rest, and destroy the being who has stopped their well deserved slumber!" She said, as her army formed weapons from the earth itself. Guns, swords, and various other weapons from the era were molded by the earth and provided to the army. Gaea then rose into the air herself and began to move her hands in an upwards motion, and as she did so, great walls of earth began to form around the field. She would not have this battle spilling out into other parts of the land. Her army armed and ready to fight, Gaea said one last thing before the fight, "Are you prepared to die for this false foreign mother who has spoken lies into your mind, Hades Serpius?"[attr="class","pink"] [attr="class","purple"] [attr="class","blue"] [attr="class","cred"]VEL OF WW[newclass=.blue]width:400px;background-color:#6F6D44;height:11px;[/newclass] [newclass=.purple]width:400px;background-color:#9EB04C;height:8px;[/newclass] [newclass=.pink]width:400px;background-color:#CBDF9A;height:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.game]width:350px;background-color:#fcfcfc;padding:25px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamelyrics]font-size:8px;font-family:verdana;color:#9fb2bb;text-transform:uppercase;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamebody]font-size:10px;font-family:verdana;color:#777;line-height:15px;text-align:justify;padding:20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.gamebody b]color:#9fb2bb;[/newclass] [newclass=.gametag]opacity:0.8;text-align:center;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred]text-align:center;font-size:8px;color:rgb(132, 132, 132);letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;margin-top:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.cred a]color:rgb(132, 132, 132);font-size:8px;letter-spacing:1px;font-family:verdana;[/newclass]

| He startled--in both concern and a sense of responsibility--but it passed. Had Apollo's words caused Hades to seek out Phoenix Force? Perhaps, but Hades would've found out on his own, and regardless, Apollo was not his uncle's keeper. No one was, except perhaps Persephone.
"This is the family you chose?" he asked. He knew Olympians. He knew their myriad flaws, and he knew why one could turn away from Olympus, just as his sister did. He never blamed Artemis, and would not blame Hades for turning away from his family either. But this replacement was an insult.
He doesn't need his armor, but he casts his power to Artemis' beasts, encasing them in an armor of light. Apollo takes to the sky, and even before he fires his first arrow, he knows that attempting to shoot even shambling soldier would be folly.
"Why, Hades? Thou wast King of the Underworld, now thou carriest out the bidding of the firebird. Why choose to serve on Earth when thou canst rule in hell?"

Artemis didn't seek the approval of anyone else, but she is emboldened by the sight of the armor encasing her lieges. It is a good feeling to know that her twin brother is still with her after all of these years. Even before she left Olympus for good, it often felt like nobody else was.
("You concern yourself too much with your muddy playthings.")
Well, these muddy playthings are about to defeat her uncle's army. Artemis doesn't waste time. "Cut a path to the general!" She roars, and the beasts are emboldened by purpose. Out of all the fighters gathered on the field today, hers would be the only ones to shed blood. They do not just fight for a master - they fight for their very livelihoods. Let Hades see that it is better to live free than as a haggard slave.
Let the battlefield honor their mortality and their sacrifice. Let them honor death, rather than make a crude mockery out of it.
The animals charge, with boars first. They knock the enemies off their feat, and the dogs follow up to maul them while they're down. The bears are a force all on their own, tearing through soldiers with only slightly more difficulty than tearing through campers. Before long, the smell of fresh blood permeates the land. Artemis smells it more strongly than any of them, she hears the cries of pain more acutely than any of them. It is a privilege that she cannot describe to anyone else in this world.
Artemis herself reserves the first ten arrows for her uncle, all shot in the span of a second. Distance is the concern of mortals. Not hers.

Grandmother had summoned her own little army to add onto Artemis pack of enraged animals. So as they began to charge the field his army began to charge as well. Apollo had also seemed to have also blessed the animals with a little armor to help aid them against his army. The main problem between the 3 of them was Apollo. Although he wasn't as much of a warrior as his grandmother and sister, his healing would be a pain to deal with. Gaea and Artemis would eventually be tired but if they got continuous heals it would become more a problem. Luckily Artemis had given him an answer.
From a far the mighty huntress shot her arrows towards Hades. Now he could easily dodge it with his wraith form but he had a better idea. Instead he would let the arrows soar towards him and as soon as they got closer, Hades opened a portal. His powers had been intensified by the phoenix force which made making portals quickly a breeze. One portal would open infront of him and the other would open right behind Apollo. The arrow would stay its course of natural trajectory and follow through and if Apollo wasn't quick enough he would be stabbed in the back.
However Hades wasn't finished. The arrows would merely provide him a distraction or a cover for his bigger move. He needed to even the playing field just a little bit. As soon as the arrows entered the portal, he used his gift of darkness manipulation to create a giant arm created out of solidified darkness and around it glowed a feint coat of Psionic boost from the phoenix force.. With one fell swoop of his arm, the giant black arm swoop down towards the field essentially harvesting the golemns and animals before him, as well as leveling some of his soldiers that had rushed into battle. The arm was backed with the power of the phoenix force and as it came in contact with the golemns they would be crushed by the powerful impact. Any animal would suffer broken bones and most likely death. This would not clear all of them but would essentially cut their forefront in half. The arm had also extended that the very tip of its fingers would graze his family.
Hades would honestly much prefer it if his family had just fought them on their own. No familiars. Just the power of the gods for he wanted to test his own true power.

As he leveled half of her army as well as Artemis' beast, Gaea felt the life extinguish from each and every one of them; and with a flick of her wrist, a quarter of the golems rose from the earth once more and the souls of the dead beast became infused with them as well, transforming them into wereboars, werebears, and weredogs. Each golem was now more ferocious than before and sported various other abilities. The wereboars had razor sharp tusks, the werebears were enormous and filled with strength, while the weredogs were vicious and agile. Hades may have thought himself clever for trying to lay waste to their army, but the living have something the dead will never have: the ability to change. The little bit of darkness that her grandchild dare send towards her vanished before it even came within fifty yards of the All Mother. Hades may have gained more power, yes, but he would still need to put up more of a fight if he wished harm the Great Goddess. Her great grandchildren, on the other hand, were not so lucky. Gaea was too far, and too focused on the battle at hand, to help Apollo or Artemis with their arrow situation. "You should listen to your nephew's words, Hades. Return to the hellish world you call home and leave the workings of the living to she who birthed them," Gaea began to say, a storm forming in the sky, striking lightning at the floor below to help even the odds of the battle. | Perhaps he needed his armor after all.
The arrow entered his shoulder, cracking his shoulderblade. Apollo took the arrow and wrenched it out. The wound healed, the bone knitting back together, the flesh closing fast, until it was healed as if it were never there.
He stepped to his sister's side, lightspeed and nigh instant. "Distract him. I need but one moment," he said to her, because he wasn't so bold as to ask Gaea for that favor, though he knew the All-Mother was better suited to it.
Apollo took a breath. Mortal men claimed he drove the sun across the sky on the back of a gleaming chariot. It was not so, but his was the light in the darkness.
Mortal men had already created flashbang grenades, but they weren't like this.
An orb of gleaming light, blinding bright sunlight, formed in the center of the grassy field. Before it, shadows grew long, then faint, fading grey into illuminating white.
With a thought and a whisper, the orb flew for Hades' dark arm. His uncle manipulated darkness as Apollo did light, and Apollo knew well that his uncle was the greater of them--but it was nature's rule that the light could chase away the shadow, and he couldn't help but feel emboldened with Mother Nature before him.

Artemis did not expect Gaea's concern, and she does not give it. Olympus will never love Apollo as Artemis loves him. It's been millennia, and still she has not been given any reason to believe differently.
If she had the capacity for emotional honesty, Artemis might have admitted that it was a tragedy. Not a boon.
She nods at his request. In an instant, she transforms into a North American grizzly bear. She barrels through the crowd of fighters, faster and stronger than a real grizzly. The animals rush out of the way at their lady's approach, while quite a few undead soldiers are not so lucky. They are sent flying as if hit by a truck. She closes her eyes as the sky gets brighter. There's no mistaking her target's foul stench. She follows her nose, rather than her eyes. When she clears the field of soldiers, she raises a single paw and goes in for the slash. There's nothing quite as distracting as a fight to the death.

Mistakes.
That's all these children made at this point. They lacked the war frontal knowledge Hades had. He had seen wars unfold when these children played with their toys. He watched as soldiers died and listened to their testimonies and stories of never ending battles. He may not be the god of war but experience was what wins battles and if that held true then these children were simply outmatched. As the arrows landed on Apollo's back it would naturally heal. Of course that wasn't the defining blow that Hades looked for. Of course not. As Artemis mindlessly ran through his army like a idiot savage Apollo attempted to disarm his arm. Unfortunately that wasn't the real ploy.
Hades walked through the portal that was still open and that he never closed. This took him directly behind Apollo who had only moved a couple meters away as he stood by his sister but wouldn't matter. He was at the flank now. As soon he stepped out of the portal he used his newly obtained psionic powers and dragged Apollo towards him, pulling Apollo at mindless speed that met 4 shadow tendrils to enter both his thighs and forearms. Hades kept a psionic lock on him to keep him in place of course. It would have been troublesome for him to teleport out. Apollo would have been to busy trying to summon this orb that he needed some time to create. By the time he launched it towards his dark hand Apollo was already taken.
A psionic message interrupted in Apollo's head quickly. Do not move nephew. This is not a fight you can win. There are bigger things than me to deal with it. The battle is not here. Do not make do something troublesome. Gaea would have no problem dispatching Apollo in hopes to stop me. But at this point Apollo wont be able to save himself if Gaea attacked. Artemis is a wildcard but she would have thoughts of using her brother to get what she wanted. "Stand down Artemis. If you don't I swear on the river styx that I will make a twin out of your brother." The tendrils coiled around Apollos limbs and started a pull. Although the light from the orb was bright, these tendrils were too close too Hades too be greatly affected. They could still rip this little godling in half

Perhaps naïve was a better word for her dear decedents. The All Mother's great grandchildren seemed to think they could out play an empowered Hades, a god of death. While the twin's combined forces were powerful, it would seem the gifts the death god received from the invader were more than mere trinkets; yet, they still paled in comparison to Gaea's true power. Her grandchild was exactly that, a child. While he may think himself old and wizened, Hades was but a mere seed while Gaea was a mighty oak tree. She had watched her experiments on Earth grow into what is modern life, she had watched her children rule over said experiments as gods, she watched her experiments destroy the very Earth she had worked so hard on. And now, it would seem, her grandchild wished to do the same. As it was, Hades, this child, was simply outmatched. Gaea was well aware of the curse that had followed her since her birth, and she knew what it encompassed. The obvious thing at hand, however, was that Hades did not. He thought by using Apollo as a meat shield Gaea would refuse to attack. He was wrong. In an instant, quite literally an instant, she brought forth the spiritual energy of the world, a ball of immense energy swirling in Gaea's hand think spirit bomb from dragon ball z. She then flicked the bright ball of life at Hades and Apollo, where it exploded with the energy of a world exploding. While she couldn't tell what exactly was happening to them, there was one thing she knew for sure: Apollo would not be dead by her hand. He couldn't be. It was impossible for the Great Mother to kill her children, and that applied to Apollo as well. Seriously injured or maimed, well, she wasn't a miracle worker after all. This rule also applied to her dear grandson Hades. "I am Gaea Creatrix, Mother to All and Creator of this World. You, Hades Serpius, are but a pebble in my presence." The Great Goddess said, pushing forward her hands and revitalizing the land around her, healing the wounds that had been dealt upon the earth.
