[attr="class","subcat"]biographical details + Born to Mariya Romanova (then Mariya Pendragon) and Enki Pendragon, both secretly metahumans who both come from a line of metahumans from both sides of the family [break][break] + Had a somewhat relatively normal early childhood despite parents’ tumultuous marriage and superpowers. Mostly raised by his mother and paternal grandparents in Wales with a strict, formal upbringing. [break][break] + First instance of power manifestation occurs at six years old when he shorts out the electricity of an entire hotel due to a tantrum. Although disappointed that he seemingly inherited his father’s powers, his mother allows his father and paternal grandparents to start his training early to prevent further accidents like that. [break][break] + After two years, doubts about the true nature of Enlil’s power surface when he successfully manages to imitate a pyrokinetic’s flames. His father keeps this a secret from his parents and requests his wife to allow him to have Enlil helped out by his friends as well, which requires going into a training journey in this time and age. She reluctantly accepts given the unknown nature of his powers, but only with frequent updates and occasional visits. [break][break] + Journey begins as intended, but as it went on through the months it was only getting more and more confusing despite hopping from expert to expert. There seemed to be no limit in what type of energy Enlil could mimic and manipulate, prompting confusion from the ones he approached at first. [break][break] + At age 10, Zernebog is sent off to stay with some scientists Enki befriended, feeling that they could help his son better than him while allowing him a lot more free time and even a stipend. Unfortunately, these scientists actually turn out to be aliens called the Eldar in disguise, who are on a probing quest to find good potential slave races or specimens to aid their quest in remaking their lost empire. [break][break] + Testing and training begins with Enlil and the other candidates as the Eldar test their capabilities, falling into the role of strict but fair taskmasters while pretending to be superpowered humans. Enlil tries to rebel at first along with others but eventually falls into line with the rest of them after they manipulated his father into telling him to behave. [break][break] + Enlil and several other subjects of varying age and power set –and sometimes even species- are put into stasis and then warped back into their Craftword, their home starship a few solar systems away. They are subsequently experimented on to wipe the useless memories of their previous lives and enhance their powers, turning them into blank slates to craft to their needs. As this experimentation goes on, the Craftworld warps away from the Milky Way galaxy (designated galaxy XJ to the Eldar) to answer the summons of their leaders in their home galaxy through their mysterious technologies. [break][break] + Experimentation finishes upon arrival to home galaxy. Extensive training and information uploading into their brains begins, though occasional displays are observed. After initial attempts at suppression, the Eldar decides to let it be, deeming it the natural course of things they should allow as they aren’t machines. It takes years aboard the Craftworld before they deem the training satisfactory enough to send their new acquisitions to missions against the dissident forces in their home galaxy. [break][break] + Enlil –now XJ9- becomes the cornerstone of the Eldar’s conquest across their home galaxy as their ship and vehicle killer, easily destroying entire fleets. Eventually allowed solo missions under the watchful eye of his Eldar handlers. Despite their best efforts to keep him secret, he gains a reputation as their Death Star and begins to attract unwanted attention from their enemies. Unwanted attention that begins to plant seeds of doubt in his mind. [break][break] + Eldar order him to begin ritual to summon their gods into the material plane to ensure their final victory against their enemies for good. Ritual is interrupted by defensive forces and a rescue squad from Earth, allowing his doubts to grow to the point where he twists the ritual to turn into an unstable gateway for something else. The Eldar of that Craftworld and half the invasive force all die before the leader of the rescue squad knocks him out, but not before the abominations leave their taint on everyone in the area. [break][break] + Spent a good portion of the trip back to Earth sedated as the rescue force repairs the damage done to his mind by the Eldar and the abominations of the warp. They are not completely successful and the taint remains and his memories remain fragmented with the rest unrecoverable. The rest of the trip is spent easing him into the idea of freedom and home, with his mother helping along the way. [break][break] + Upon returning to Earth, it’s revealed that around half a century has passed since he had left and has resulted in a world somewhat alien to even his rescuers. They settle in the main HQ of the rescuers –the Freemasons- and they all begin to readjust there. After several months, the Freemasons offer a quiet life or joining them, with Enlil choosing to join them. [break][break] + Enlil chooses to change his identity to Zernebog Romanov, dropping his association with his father after learning what he’s done. He reinvents himself in line with his new identity and serves in the Freemasons as an agent. [break][break] + A year later, he’s assigned as a mole in the Initiative alongside a few others to keep an eye on the organization as well as possible moles from other organizations. He is processed with minimal scrutiny as a hero with a different, simpler set of powers by the Initiative and assigned to Kingsport. [break][break] + Currently adjusting to his double life as both a member of the initiative and the freemasons, making sure not to give anything away about the latter. It’s about as hard as adjusting to a semi-normal life, which he still sucks at. But he’s getting better, or so he swears. It’s hard though, when he has to keep so much secret. Examples of usage of these forms of energy depend on the type he’s using, but they include direct attacks (blasts, beams), constructs (shields), channeling, energizing and reinforcing oneself or others, amplification or negation of other energy attacks, teleportation (though this one is hard), and more. The only real limits are his imagination, his own experience and prowess as well as the amount of energy he has on hand. [break][break] Actual manipulation is an active process and requires focus, with the amount of focus directly proportional to the amount of power used and amount of precision in the exerted control. He is currently comfortable enough to manipulate microprocesses of several things at once or control energies from a day’s worth of solar energy hitting Earth with minimal strain because of his extensive training and experience. He’s used to wielding one or multiple types at once, but the latter requires more micromanagement. As for method of manipulation, he can wield it in any way he can imagine as long as it follows the properties of said energy. [break][break] The level of his control over energy is influenced by three main factors. Emotions is one, where serenity and calmness allows him the most control while strong emotions afford him much more force in exchange of loss of his usual control. Experience is the second, as his own familiarity and knowledge about the type of energy plays a big role in how well he can wield it. Lastly, visualization, as he can only control energy he can actually sense either through his five senses or through his ability to sense energy. If he can’t sense it, then he can’t control it. [break][break] Another cornerstone of his power is his ability to sense any forms of energy, not just manipulate it. He can sense energy up to several dozen lightyears away by himself, but these days he only uses a small fraction of that range as it isn’t needed on Earth. The more familiar he is with an energy type, the easier it is for him to sense and vice versa, with pure, light, psychic, nuclear, and electric energies being the easiest for him to sense. Curiously though, kinetic energy is hard for him to sense unless it’s manifested as a very large outburst like with explosions or with long durations like with super-speed running. This is due to the interchanging nature of potential and kinetic energy as well as his inexperience with using the energy type. [attr="class","subcat"]energy generation Beyond just manipulating energy, Zernebog does produce his own energy over time as a part of his ergokinesis. Due to practice and tinkering from his former masters, he is able to produce as much energy as a nuclear power plant in a single day, but a significant portion of that is usually eaten up to maintain his body –especially if he doesn’t eat- or utilized for his abilities. He must always take care to balance his generated energy with the absorbed ones lest he suffer from overload. [attr="class","subcat"]energy absorption Part of his ergokinesis, Zernebog can absorb any type of energy and channel it for other purposes (see other sections) or keep it for storage. Pure energy or energy channeled through media like gas or plasma are easy for him to absorb to the point where it’s automatic, rendering him impervious to them. Kinetic energy from strikes or weapons are much harder for him to absorb because of its speed and form of release, plus he’s unused to it. [break][break] However, he does have a limit on energy he could have inside him at one time. Too much causes him to become temporarily insane from overload, his conscious mind receding to make way for an instinctual need for release and destruction. There is a small amount of leeway between his full and his crazed overload state that’s more of the warning stage where his control and restraints start to slack, which he uses to train himself to deepen his reserves. Currently, Zernebog’s maximum capacity is energy equivalent to that of an average star (i.e. Earth’s sun) but he usually only has a fraction of that with him. [break][break] Over the years, he learned that his body has completely adapted to surviving on energy alone, whether it’s produced by his body or absorbed. He can still process, food, water, and air normally like regular humans but they are completely optional. He only indulges in them to feel more human despite less efficiency. [attr="class","subcat"]electrokinesis While part of his ergokinesis, his electrokinesis deserves special mention because it is the only part of his powers known to the Initiative and the public at large. As it is a part of his ergokinesis, like with other forms of energy he is able to sense, create, manipulate, and even absorb electricity. He is very good at this branch of his power, with enough power to generate massive lightning bolts or power city blocks by himself with his own power. [break][break] His control over electricity however is far more impressive than the power he can generate himself. He can easily manipulate smaller amounts of electricity that allow him to do feats that vary from clinging to surfaces like spiders to controlling and messing with objects and creatures that are powered/controlled by electricity. His control is fine enough that he can permanently erase memories in the brain by destroying their neural connections -though it’s hit and miss unless he’s told which holds what memory- or even make a person move and feel things in a physical sense against their own will through their nerve signals. However, he does need good working knowledge of the relevant parts of their species’ physiology and anatomy through study or trial and error before he can do something like that properly. [attr="class","subcat"]transmutation Transforming one form of energy to another has always been part of Zernebog’s set of powers. However, it has recently expanded to being able to transmute matter into energy and vice versa. This is limited to small objects and parts of his own body, only being able to do larger-scale things in times of high stress and/or focus consciously. Subconsciously though, his body automatically starts transmuting energy into nutrients it needs when there is not enough in supply, normally due to starvation. He wouldn’t have grown otherwise. [attr="class","subcat"]space-time manipulation Utilizing certain energies, Zernebog is able to manipulate the space-time continuum. As he lacks practice and is hesitant to practice it, he currently only has enough skill to either distort it or slice through it as long as he has enough energy. Even then, these aren’t exact and are often crude and relatively more unstable compared to what more practiced ones or reality warpers can do. He can distort space and time separately or together, the former easier than the latter. With a massive amount of power at his disposal, he can create rifts and even wormholes. [attr="class","subcat"]enhanced regeneration By manipulating the energy his body absorbs and is composed of, he is able to accelerate healing of his wounds. It’s mostly subconscious but he can force it even faster as well by focusing on the wounds. Through a combination of that and transmutation, he can even regain lost body parts, though that process requires effort, time, and a lot more energy as he basically remaking it and reconnecting it from scratch. [attr="class","subcat"]decelerated aging As a side effect of constantly using only energy as nourishment for years and the enhanced regeneration he had developed, Zerne’s aging has slowed down considerably and is continuing to slow down since he entered his twenties. He now only ages once every decade and a half and it is theorized that his aging would become even slower over time until it stops. [attr="class","subcat"]extraterrestrial knowledge This is not a power but something he had picked up over the years through experience and his masters’ meddling. Due to his years in space and his masters uploading information into his head, he has a lot of knowledge on various interstellar races from their biology to their equipment and even their history and culture. Ironically, he lacks knowledge on Earth for the same reasons and has been trying to remedy it for years with the help of others since he had been brought back. So far it’s mostly book knowledge he has, while still working on the experience aspect. [attr="class","subcat"]extraterrestrial magic Information about extraterrestrial magic was also downloaded into his brain and taught to him. The information coupled with practice and his abilities extending to arcane energies allow him to perform these magics skillfully and not just identify them. There are parallels to extraterrestrial magic and the ones on Earth, but others don’t have equivalents. [break][break] However, he rarely uses it after returning to Earth due to the trauma he had gained after intentionally botching that summoning spectacularly. He will only use magic only if necessary, and summoning magic in particular only in the direst of circumstances when he has no other choice. [attr="class","subcat"]taint of the warp His brush with the abomination left its mark on his very being. Psychics and magic users feel unsettled and yet intrigued by his presence, feeling that there is something off about him that they need to be wary of. People trying to delve into his mind or possess him often get assaulted with nightmarish images and conflicting sensations that cause physical and mental pain that intensifies the longer they try to force through. Only the strongest of minds can attempt to force through this. |
