She can give a beating as good as she can take one, quick to speak with her fists before her mouth when the time comes for it. Functionally illiterate, she has more street-smarts than book-smarts and her blunt choice of words reflects this. Nevertheless, she is insecure in her academic short-comings and is likely to blow a fuse should someone pokes this sore spot. All-in-all she is the classic portrait of misspent youth at its worst. [break][break] Despite all of this, Meredith is a much kinder soul than she cares to let on. She is wise in her own way: worldly and experienced beyond her years, and eager to give comfort to those who need it. Despite her rage, she has a somewhat hedonistic 'hippie' worldview that values happiness, love and liberty above all else. Contemptuous of authority, she will be the first to step up to defend those who cannot defend themselves, and trusts only in herself to judge what is and isn't just. She is a romantic, a visionary and a passionate demagogue who is eternally loyal to her friends and a terror to her enemies. Woe be to whomever incurs her wrath. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Meredith's early life was nothing special. Raised in an orphanage with no true parents to speak of, she fell prey quickly to the self-loathing and anger that comes with such lonliness. Bigger than most girls (and some boys) her age, she quickly took to bullying and violence as outlets for her anger, and if there was ever a fight you'd bet she would always be involved. Her foul temper turned away many potential foster parents and, in turn, fueled her anger further. It was wonly hen she was around five years of age that her abnormalities first began to manifest. [break][break] The cuts and bruises she suffered in her scraps would disappear within a minutes, she never got sick, and lost baby teeth regrew in a matter of days. Initially few thought much of it: she was a healthy girl, her cuts were never too deep to begin with and teeth in general are weird enough. The last straw to her weirdness came after a freak accident at the age of eleven in which Meredith, attempting to show-off some dangerous stunt, sliced off two of her fingers with a kitchen knife. [break][break] The event was traumatic and harrowing, but not nearly as disturbing as what came next. Days after the bandages came off the stubs of her knuckles began to swell. A few days later they had swollen some more. Initially it was thought her wounds had become infected but as time went on the truth of the matter became clear: her fingers were growing back. To Meredith, this was the coolest thing in the world. To the other children, it was an excuse to call their long-time tormentor a freak. [break][break] Few things were the same after that, as the initial pride in her abilities turned to a sour hatred. Four years of torment later she decided she'd had enough and, with little else but the shirt on her back, ran from the orphanage at fifteen never to be seen again. The accounts of her life in the years since are spotty and anecdotal at best: story after story from one coast to the next, each punctuated by a grimy-looking young lady with a foul mouth and miraculous powers of healing. All that can be said is that the real world has taught her a good few life lessons, though not too many to make her regret where her choices had taken her. Her skin and bones are far more durable than a regular human's and she can survive beatings that would kill a normal man a dozen times over. She never gets ill, she need only eat and sleep a few short times a week, and it would take her hours to fully suffocate. On top of this she heals all ailments she receives at a supernatural rate: cuts and bruises clean up in a matter of seconds and shattered bones will be good by the next day. Even lost limbs will regrow eventually depending on the size of the chunk cut off and heavy blood loss is just a matter of bed-rest. Sadly, she feels pain fully and will always bare the scars of her more severe injuries, and the healing process for wounds that would kill an elephant is an arduous one. Despite this, it seems like a bullet to the head would be the only surefire way to kill her. [attr="class","subcat"]Healing One of the more unique facets of Meredith's physiology is her ability to temporarily impart her healing factor to other organisms. Often a simple task, all she need do is maintain physical contact with the afflicted and she may completely heal their injuries and physical illnesses. Curiously, this ability is not limited to humans and she may also regurgitate animal and plant life. However, the more severe the ailment a subject has and the more alien their biology it is, the more taxing and time-consuming the healing process will take. Bringing people back from the brink of death is no small feat, and is one of the few things that can be exhausting for the otherwise tireless Meredith. |
