Rei was a shy sort, and struggled making friends and socializing much with children his own age, but his parents didn't see it as so much of a problem at the time. His mother having always wanted a little girl would playfully dress him in girls close when he was a toddler, little did they know that he would actually grow more fond of girls attire than his male counter parts. [break][break] + Due to his shy behaviors, and feminine demeanor as he got older, his parents saw him as more of an embarrassment than anything else. They essentially disowned him entirely, disgusted by the son they were supposed to have. Along with more mild financial struggles, they ended up sending him to an orphanage at the age of five years old. [break][break] + Despite the bullying he endured those years he lived in the orphanage, Rei took solace in technology. He read books, and got a part time job, and when he had enough money he bought a laptop computer. The thing became his child. Attached to it like the security blanket that it then became, if anyone touched it he'd break out into tears. His social anxieties, clearly, didn't get better because of it, but at least he had something to help calm his ever antsy nerves. [break][break] + When he turned eighteen he unfortunately couldn't be supported by the orphanage, however, thanks to his exceptional grades was accepted with a scholarship to the university in Kingsport. He moved into the dorms as soon as he was able to begin classes, and with much job searching managed to land a job at the Initiative (of all places) as a janitor. Not the best career, but he was alright with anything so long as it helped pay for food, and books. [break][break] + Does he still dress like a girl? Yes, but he doesn't go out of his way to intentionally fool people, it's just what he feels most comfortable in honestly. Besides, if people just assume he's a girl surely they won't find his feminine personality traits as strange, right?
