"A community with no oversight," Thalia says, more calmly than she feels. This is the problem with vigilantes. They have no sense of responsibility, just an all-consuming selfishness and ego. She thinks of the woman, Physis, running out on her and leaving the mission not even half-finished. The robot pilot who had thought it was her right to do what she wanted, as she wanted. "Why do you tear my friends apart? Probably because the idea of accountability is so anathema to your desire to run around and do whatever you want."

The girl bites her lip, looking hesitant, and then swallows whatever she was about to say before in favor of whispering: "I want to go home..."

You can feel the arrogance, the form of superiority sitting in the back of her words. "A community with no oversight that you and your friends approve of." you correct her abruptly. Your powers were your own, not The Initiatives. You didn't consent to overarching control, obedience, the threat of punishment when you misstep. They tried to punish you regardless, you wanted to remind her. You, personally, had never lost control of your powers and hurt civilians. Property, maybe, but that was about it. At the end of the day the heroes always seemed to do more damage than you. "Or because they come after me and violently try to detain me. When was the last time you heard of me hurting someone innocent with my powers?" you tapped your foot, eagerly awaiting an answer. "I'd accept responsibility, but I have none to accept when I've done nothing wrong." your voice raised, you could feel your eyes narrow slightly. [break]
"Just because we don't play by your rules and wear your chains doesn't mean we don't take responsibility."

"I think my name is Elizabeth..." the girl mumbles in your direction. "I'm from Fairmount.... I don't... I don't know what happened." her voice stays soft, she wants to say more seems afraid. Was she a super like the two of you, or was she made into what she was now? You couldn't tell, not even your roots could pick up on the living parts of her.
"I'm sorry for hurting you, Elizabeth." you say, taking a step closer and resting your hand on her shoulder.
< 50 she reacts to being touched
"It's okay.. It doesn't hurt.." she says, still staring off into the distance.

The Initiative needs people like this. Why can none of them see it? It needs people who can see past the glittering facade, it needs people who will question it, reform it, people who hate what it is, because those are the people who are going to change it. The people who will push it towards what it needs to be, what it could be, instead of what it is now. But none of them want that. They want the easy path of just complaining and running amok and insisting that it doesn't matter, that they can just do this forever, while everyone else waits for the mistake that's going to cost all of them everything--
But she doesn't say any of that because the girl--Elizabeth, Thalia corrects herself--speaks, and Thalia turns to her immediately. Orchid can wait. For now. As if they have any time left.
"Do you have family, Elizabeth?" Thalia asks quietly. She doesn't reach out to touch her like Orchid, but stands back a little, behind the other woman, looking at the girl with solemn eyes.

Oh god, she looks like she's going to cry, tears welling up in her eyes and spilling down her face.
"Y-yes," she says. It's barely a statement instead of a sob. "I want my mom."
"We'll get you back to your mom," Thalia promises. "We need to know where she is first, though."
