These kids -- needed to be a taught a lesson. Mutants fucking shit up in gym class he could understand, but messing around during lunch break was something Jack refused to condone. It was one thing to play a lopsided game of basketball against superhumanly fast people, and it was a completely different thing to have lunch ruined by kids who turned his plate of lunch into seething acid.
Jack had had enough. He completely ignored what his father had told him, and struck first.
Bad move, really. Even before he hit them, he knew it wouldn't have ended well. But someone had to do something, and it definitely wasn't the school.
... Whatever. He'd thrown the punch.
---
He felt like he had just went to hell and back by the time he dragged himself out from school and into town.
Through a combination of sheer will and desire to bask in the pain of his terrible decision-making skills, his body had stopped trying to repair itself and was starting to make things worse for him.
Jack planted himself on a bench outside a cafe, looking not in the least sorry for himself despite his apparent injuries. He was lucky enough to not have broken bones for some miraculous reason.
Jack had objected to getting checked out by a friend who was decent enough to show concern, and currently regretted that decision. His arm had bruised, and the scratches on his face was starting to sting. He could have sworn the scrape he'd gotten on his elbow was getting worse the longer he sat without medical attention.
He seethed in silence.

[attr="class","drackdescript"]Was he surprised? A little bit. Not much though to be honest.
When Ace had gotten word that Jack had been in a fight, and had been pretty banged up, he didn't hesitate to make him come over and get some medical attention. He knew that Jack wouldn't get it otherwise. The kid had came around to the cafe a little while ago and just started making it his after school hang out, to Ace he was a regular. And with most of Ace's regulars, he wanted to talk to them. And boy, did Jack have a lot to talk about his school.
He set down a tray filled with water and wiped his brow. The cafe hadn't been too busy thus far. Ace wiped his hands off and looked out the main window, seeing Jack plopped on the bench outside. He paused for a moment and threw the towel back on the counter. "I'll be back in a couple of minutes." Ace said, leaving the tray to one of the waiters, who looked at him in confusion.
A couple of minutes after that, Ace came out of the front door with the first aid kit in hand. He glanced down at Jack and moved over to the other side of the bench to sit down. The first aid kit clicked open as Ace started getting the stuff out. "Two things. One, do I wanna know what happened to get you in a fight? Two, do I wanna know what the other guy looks like?"

Jack's hands had balled themselves into fists by the time Ace came out of his café. His hands were tightened around the strap of his book-bag, but he tugged it onto his lap the moment Ace approached the bench. Angry as he was, Jack was not the kind to take it out on people whom he cared for and considered a friend.
He bristled slightly when he heard Ace speak. Jack wanted to tell Ace everything so badly, but he didn't want to end up venting Ace's ear off. And so, he settled for a heavy sigh as he mentally planned a condensed version of the story.
But then again, how did one condense an incident where everything seemed important enough to tell? Frustrated, Jack stared at his shoes until the feeling wore off, and he could look Ace in the eye without murderous intent.
"No, and no," said Jack, "But I guess I'm a liar if I said that. It's not even the other guy this time, Ace!" He grit his teeth. "It's the other guys. They ganged up. Because I punched one of them in the face.
"Look, it's not fair if they start hitting you with powers, okay? It's just ..."
Jack couldn't finish his sentence. Weakly, he finished, "Damn it."

[attr="class","drackdescript"]As Ace opened up the kit he waited for Jack's reply. The kid was quiet for a few moments before looking at him in the eye, explaining vaguely what had happened. He frowned at the information and sighed when Jack trailed off. Deep down, Jack seemed like a good kid, but sometimes he just needed to stop and think.
He unrolled the gauze and set it aside for later, opting to take out the ointment first and applying it to some cotton pads. "This might sting." Ace said as he began to dab the wounds. He felt as though there was more to the story than just 'punched one guy, proceed to get beaten up by multiple guys' but Ace didn't want to force the entire story out of Jack. Ace did have to admit that Jack was right, the gang of powered teenagers ganging up on one kid wasn't fair.
Silence fell upon them for a few moments as Ace continued to patch Jack up. The kid sounded a bit defeated. "I'm sure your heart was in the right place, but you shouldn't try to fix issues yourself. Especially if it's against a group. Is there a teacher you can talk to or something?" Ace asked as he started wrapping the gauze. There had to be someone else Jack could confide in about these types of things. Besides lending a ear to listen to Jack rant, Ace felt pretty useless in a situation like this.

Jack braced himself as Ace warned him about the antiseptic ointment. It stung, but it wasn't as bad as getting clocked in the face by some other kid. Ace's words continued to pummel him. Even if it was good advice, Jack just wasn't accepting it for what it was: good and proper advice.
How was he supposed to not fix his own issues himself? Everyone he knew took matters into their own hands and lived with the consequences. Jack wanted to become a person who was like that, too. He wanted to become a person who didn't shirk their responsibility of doing what was right for them, no matter how wrong it might seem.
"I don't want to," said Jack, sulkily. "It's not like they'd help. The school puts the normal kids and the abnormal ones together, and they don't expect problems to break out like acne? Give me a break."
He held out his hand for Ace to treat, having gotten over the fact that sitting around with wounds probably wasn't a good idea.
"I bet you get superpowered people in here, but do they ever get in enough trouble to get blacklisted?"

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] [attr="class","linkeru"] jack [attr="class","linkeru2"] museHe pulled back, finished with wrapping and tending to the wound, and raised a brow at Jack. As much as Ace didn't want to admit it, he probably had a point. A school that shoved the normal and abnormal together probably didn't care much about their students in the first place. It was a frustrating fact to deal with though, Ace wanted to do more. But there wasn't much one kid and one superpowered adult could do against half the student body.
He shrugged a little bit, closing the first aid kit and sighing a little bit. "I mean, you can't really letting this continue either. One of these days you might not walk away from those fights so easily." Jack could hold his own, Ace didn't doubt that. He's shown more than once he's capable of it too. How he did though was beyond Ace's knowledge. The kid sure had guts to punch a powered being in the face though.
The question made Ace pause for a moment, tilting his head slightly in thought. "Not really, honestly. Everyone who's come through is pretty nice and chill about not using their powers. The ones that do get kinda rowdy are actually the pure human people, believe it or not." It was true. Most of the time the superheroes or vigilantes that came in didn't even bother to use their powers, at least not to the point of being banned from the cafe. It was mostly psychics or people who were capable of telekinesis that used their powers out in the open so freely. On the other hand, humans ended up getting into more fist fights than the metahumans. Who knew?

There was something about listening to advice from an adult he didn’t really care for, and there was something else in listening to an adult who seemed to always say the right thing. Jack didn’t care even if it was his own bias telling him that Ace was right and everyone else was wrong. Not having to care about censoring his own words was what made Jack enjoy Ace’s company.
“I believe you,” said Jack in response to Ace’s comment about normal humans causing a ruckus. If they weren’t going to pick on someone their own size, who were they going to pick on? The villains flying about Sentinel Hill, or the heroes smashing up stuff in Arkham? Neither, of course.
“It’s why I like this place,” he continued to say, and despite his injuries starting to smart, managed a grin at Ace. “Chill superpowered people, the owner who’s also chill, and awesome coffee art.” Then after a short pause, he added, “Well, the drinks themselves are pretty nice too, I guess. Heh, just kidding.”

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] [attr="class","linkeru"] jack [attr="class","linkeru2"] museAce couldn't help but grin and laugh at Jack. At least the kid recovered quickly from fights like these, it was something that he liked about him. Jack never seemed to be down and out about school for too long. For a kid who was constantly coming to the cafe to talk, rather complain, about school, he recovered pretty quickly from it. It lead to a lot of interesting and fun conversations with Jack, something Ace looked forward to whenever he saw him come through the door. He closed up the first aid kit and nodded. "Well I'm glad you enjoy coming here. My doors, and ears, are always open."
He shot a quick glance at Jack when he commented about the drinks. Hopefully, the kid was kidding. With that though, Ace stood up and brushed off his lap, taking the first aid kit off the bench and offering a hand to Jack to get up. "You should be all patched up and good to go, but before you head off, how about I make one of your favorite drinks for you and get a sandwich? You have to be starving after a fight like that."

“Really?” Jack’s eyes shone at the offer. “You’re not kidding?”
A drink and a sandwich sounded great – he hadn’t realized he was hungry until Ace pointed it out to him. Funny how things worked like that; but yes, he wanted an egg sandwich. Maybe something with ham. A ham and egg sandwich. Jack entertained his scattered thoughts.
“Because if you’re not, lemme just say that you’re right, I’m starving right now.” He grinned. “Can we make it a double? I mean, like, I’ll pay for the stuff – I just feel like I can eat a horse or something.”
