He could hear them. The cries of despair and desire reverberating within the bodies of every mortal that passed him by. How it broke his heart to hear such misery. But the more misery that loomed within them meant that they had even more untapped potential. And that was what he loved about the human race.
The God of the Vine sipped at his mug in a small cafe participating in one of his favorite pastimes, people watching. Though wherever he went he would watch and look and search for humans he deemed ready to be awoken. The miserable, the depraved, the intriguing, and the strange.
Though he would often leave recruitment to his followers, he wasn’t above the field work. In fact, he took great enjoyment out of it. But today seemed slow, sure there were many pathetic souls crying out to him but none of great sorrow or great power. His followers all came from different walks of life, but he knew that in Kingsport, the epicenter of heroes and villains, he could find the extraordinary. And that was what he was waiting for to appear.

Anna had had a somewhat tiring morning. She had been called in to do some "Publicity Work" as they had referred to it for the entire morning. So, she had to do things like crossing guard duty for the city school, where some of them waited for her to sign autographs, help old ladies across the street that were actually younger than herself, deliver doughnuts to the local police stations because the doughnut delivery guy's truck was out of service, directed MORE traffic at a service light while the cops were eating doughnuts, and just was absolutely beat.
So, of course, riding Crusador was one way to alleviate her pain. She decided to ride him across the city, and he continued to leave trails of stardust, which isn't as dangerous as people seem to think. She finally arrived in front of a coffee shop and dismounted her horse, stretching a little bit after getting the horse back into its shell as she headed inside to get a cup of coffee.
"Hi there, ma'am! What can I get you?"
"I'll uh... I'll have the darkest coffee ya got... Make sure it has uh... Extra espresso, I think it's called? And a large, too..." She reached into her messenger bag and pulled out her wallet before noticing the barista had a bit of a frightened look on her face after seeing her guns. "Oh, don't worry, I'm with the initiative and have a permit for 'em." The barista's face relaxed and she handed her the coffee.
Annabelle was walking out the door when she noticed the man that was dressed surprisingly well. She made a movement as if to go to the other table, but something about him was very... catching?

Dionysus was a little taken back by the sight of a mythical-like beast roaming the streets of Kingsport in the middle of the day. But the beast wasn’t alone, a girl rode it with excitement. Initiative no doubt. Dionysus smirked to himself, this should prove entertaining.
Dionysus found it hard to place her in his mind, overall her soul seemed clean and pure. But he could feel the itching of regret and loneliness slipped out of the brim of her soul. She covered it well but nothing got past a god.
As she exited the cafe he seemed to catch her eye. Dionysus could feel his glee rising.
“H-hello, can I help you with something ma’am?” He played the part of a young man caught of guard by a pretty lady. Dionysus was a master of facades, you’d think there were other people living in his head. “Ah, c-could I perhaps offer you a seat? I mean, it's too nice of a day to sit alone right?” He gave a nervous laugh and exuded sincerity. This lamb was his.

Annabelle couldn't help it... Something inside of her was screaming "DON'T DO IT! IT'S A TRAP," but that was deep inside of mind. After all, he seemed very nice... She sat down at the table with him and sat her coffee down on the table as well.
“Howdy. I’m Annabelle Cloudia, my hero name’s ‘Star Ryder.’ I’m… Not that well known. Thanks fer offering me the seat!” She took a sip of her coffee and sat it back down. The voice was starting to quiet down the more she was around this man. HE had a sense of calm around him…
She suddenly folded her arms on the table and sat her head in her arms, like a schoolkid would after completing a very hard test. “Damn it… The Initiative had me doin’ public relations all mornin’. I’m plum worn out… Crossin’ Guard duty… Really? That’s a thing? Back in my day…” Annabelle looked up and blushed before removing her hands from her face and shaking them about. “Ah! I didn’t mean to ramble on about myself to ya! Yer not interested in that sorta thing, Mister… uh… Wait, what’s yer name again? I don’t think I asked…”
The voice was but a faint whisper now, still dying away. If only Annabelle had listened to the voice, she wouldn’t be about to fall into this web of doom…

The girl was easy enough to lure in, she actually seemed a little eager for company. She did have a noticeable country accent. A small town girl possibly?
By her interesting mode of transportation and the weapon she holstered there was no doubt she was Initiative. Dionysus hated the stiffs that ran that organization but he had to give it to them, they carried the most intriguing kind of characters.
He quietly listened to her ramblings like a polite stranger, keeping a surprised and yet still interested expression. But underneath he was trying to slip into her mind, he felt the yearning from her soul. For a purpose, for companionship. She certainly was a lost little lamb. He had to help her.
“Ah! I didn’t mean to ramble on about myself to ya! Yer not interested in that sorta thing, Mister… uh… Wait, what’s yer name again? I don’t think I asked…” Such a sweet little lamb.
“Oh! Uh, don’t worry about it! Really, I was absorbed in your ramble,” He chuckled softly. “It’s actually just kinda cool to, you know, sit down with a real life hero,” Did she enjoy being called a hero? Did she enjoy the spotlight that many others do? “My names Laurent, it’s a pleasure to meet you. It’s your turn now,”

Well Laurent seemed nice, even after he listened to her ramblings. He seemed warm and inviting, almost as if he was stretching forth an open hand. Annabelle was more than happy to offer out her hand to him. Wait, was that really happening?
She was back in the real world now and she blinked her eyes before looking back at him. Hero? "Well, I'm actually not that very well known compared to other heroes. I mainly just tag along with some people and get low level crooks. And then there's the whole publicity stunts which is a fancy way of sayin' 'Hey go get doughnuts for the police force.' I wish I had a bit more to do, y'know. Kinda hard to get adjusted to the twenty first century..."
She returned back to drinking her coffee as she looked at Laurent. "Yeah just call me Annabelle. I'm pretty much done with bein' Star Ryder for the rest of the day..." Why did he seem so magnetizing? She felt like she could tell him everything for some reason... Must be his personality.

Dionysus looked fondly at the agent, seemingly engrossed in her ramble about Initiative life. He knew that they were no better than dogs, groomed to serve the Greater Good. They basically lost their identities once given heroic titles.
Wait...twenty first century? Now this was what he called interesting. A time traveler perhaps? It wasn’t absurd, these days all kinds seemed to come out of the wood works.
“Twenty first century…?” She seemed so drained, pitiful thing. Being a corporate hero was no way for someone to live. “Well if you’re done for the day would you...like to hang out?” Dionysus was known for not beating around the bush, even with his facades.
“Oh! I’m sorry, was that being pushy? You just, look like you needed a break was all I meant,” He laughed nervously. “I know we’re barely acquaintances but, I understand how it feels to be under too much pressure,”
