Austin, Texas is arguably beautiful this time of year. Mostly it's just hot. Right now it's hotter than ever, as there is currently a giant meteorite of fire and light plunging towards the city.
Appearing out of a clear blue sky, there has just been enough time for the Initiative to launch into action to save the city. There is not, however, much time remaining before it crashes into Austin and obliterates a decent chunk of a major American city.
Naturally, there is screaming and panic on the streets. Those with a good aerial view of the meteorite might notice that the flames and light surrounding the rock form the shape of a great bird. Most people are too frightened to notice or care.
This is an event thread meant for 2-3 to characters. You, the players, will take it from here. The staff will not be posting again, though please feel free to contact us if there's any questions about what leads an investigation might turn up! |

suGOI SUGOI KAWAII-DESU
Maria did some traveling and eventually found herself in Texas. Austin specifically. Wanting to take a break from all the stuff back at the old city she decided why not? So she set off and found a really cool place but sadly wanting to get away from something wasn't an option. Considering the fact there's a giant meteor heading for earth. Why? Can someone just explain why?
Maria sighed looking up at the meteor with a tail following behind it. Fire. Well. Let's gun on it.
Maria sighed closing her eye as she started doing a magical girl transformation. Her eye's opened as a bright blue light appeared around her as she kicked off to the meteor
Let's stop this thing shall we?

RYOU I I saw people dance about their pandemonium under the great shadow of my form. Every exiting road was fitted with cars, compressed together like bricks, frozen in traffic. I could hear the muted cacophony blazing through the entire city with the noise of horns and a panicking population. I could carry a crowded twenty on my back and escape, but there would not be enough time to save everybody. Catching a strange screaming from below, I looked down and saw a throng of people waving their arms and jumping up and down. A sickening feeling dropped in my stomach. I couldn’t see their faces, but I could imagine the smile and hope beaming at them, thinking that I was here to whisk them away to safety. They saw me look, and they saw me fly away. My wings beat heavily against the air. I swooped past the helicopters whirling around me and chased a spot on the green clearing below. My downward descent had been sharp and rapid. When my four feet were about to touch the ground, I stretched my wings and flapped them harder to stop my sudden drop. The trees bent away from me as though I had brought with me a raging typhoon. Feeling my momentum slow down, I landed on the field, the ground shaking under me, and there exploded a brilliant light, followed by a burst of white steam clouding the area. I emerged out of the steam with the front of my shirt pulled up to my eyes and pressed on them as though tending to a bleeding wound. I drew in a shaky breath and released my shirt, blinking away hot tears as I looked up to the meteor crashing from the sky. It almost looked like a bird. I squinted but it wasn't the shape of the meteor's flames that I was looking at anymore. It was the other dot that charged after it. MARIA + one more (ooc: Whoever is the third person, you can be with Ryou and ride him to the meteor.)

It was close enough to feel the heat blistering her bark, and for her form to momentarily shudder. She was only in Texas for a short while as it wasn't far to reach when you could run fast enough to get around the country in two hours flat. But it was only to visit a few hidden nymph friends. A joyous occasion, whereas she told them that Artemis was finally back. There was a small celebration as they sheltered themselves from the heat underneath a small patch of wood -- graceful swooping dances as another played jaunty tunes on her reed flute. It was all fun and games until they saw it.
In fright she turned into a laurel tree, her limbs hardening and the soles of her feet growing into roots. But she knew this was something she could not just ignore. “I must go,” She murmurs quietly to them as she darted forward, the chaos reaching her elfish ears immediately. However amidst the steam came out a man. A injured man. Was that who she thought it was?
She gracefully lands a few feet in froth of him before hurriedly pulling out a small vial. A clear liquid that were most definitely her tears. Sometimes she could not weep on a whim, “Please, Ryou, put this on thine wounds! It is of the utmost importance!”

Maria looked behind to see a two more faces. It wasn't people he knew so it was rather interesting. But he had to focus on the immediate threat, the meteor with something behind it. He could tell there was a giant source of energy behind it, but he didn't know what. It was unlike anything he's ever felt. He knew something was up and he needed to figure out what.
The first question he has was, what is that energy source?
He looked behind him to watch what the two new faces were doing and to see if they were going to help him try and stop the meteor.
Maria looked up at the asteroid that was heading towards earth, there wasn't much time to act so he had to do something.
Since it's going to attack the earth why not use it against it? This is a long shot, considering it would require charging up before use but what could he do there was no time.
"Guys!" he yelled at the two people "Give me some time!" he yelled hoping they were on his side for this.
He vanished appearing on the ground of the earth as he stood there eyes closed. "Phesmatos infero eseri gratas." he spoke as a circle of fire appeared from under him. "Disasustos vom, mas pro je ta sue te." the wind's started to pick up in rapid haste as he kept mumbling words drawing in energy from the earth. "Victamas veras. Phasmatos tribum, niha sue exilum, disasustos vom, mas pro je ta sue te..."

RYOU II Was that another hero fighting? Just as I was about to run and shift again, something landed right in front of me. My feet almost entangled themselves and I almost fell face first on the person as my arms flailed beside me, fighting to regain my balance. I blinked several times, dazed. “Wounds?” I asked but I didn’t have the time to wait for a respond. I heard the other hero yell out for assistance. “Stay back!” I cried, darting past the goat-horned nymph and taking a leap. I didn’t have to think about it. There was no intricate magical incarnations or deep prayers involved. The instinct welled from my core, and with a simple ounce of will, the shifting took place as easy as snapping. A flash of flight, a burst of scalding steam. Out of the cloud, a gaping maw emerged, followed by a head with golden eyes, a giant, reptilian body of dark scales, and a long tail slicing through the air. My beating wings parted the steam and the trees hissed behind me as I shot back into the air. A guttural roar erupted from deep within my diaphragm, flames spurting out of my mouth. The city below me grew smaller and smaller while the meteor in front of me grew bigger and bigger. The colors around me were lost completely, replaced by an angry orange and red as though an eternal sunset had bled into the world. I couldn’t feel the heat. But I still could see the gargantuan rock that I intended to slow down and it scared me. I had forgotten to do a sign of the cross before I shifted. God, please protect your children. Please protect me and the city. With blazing speed, I slammed into the meteor. MARIA + daphne (ooc: now he's going to need that healing tears xD)

His injuries didn't seem too much of a concern to him. But as a comrade, she felt it was necessary to address them now before they did anything too rash -- well, never mind. "Wait! Thee shouldn't drive into this, thou art not alone!" But her words fell upon deaf ears. Daphne uses both hands to block her face and force from the abrupt gust of wind as he transformed, and once the steam had dissipated he had already taken off into the air. She watches with both arms at her side simply, before finally glancing over to the long-haired blonde seemingly chanting ancient words to summon magical power. Daphne fidgets worriedly, clasping her hands together as her eyes darted from the androgynous blonde to the dragon in the sky.
"Doth... thee bethink we can winneth this? Oh, I wish I could beest of some help..." It made her feel guilty that she was simply standing there waiting for something, anything, to happen. Why now exactly? Oh, she just wasn't prepared for something like this to happen!

Maria spell was charging nicely as he continued to charge, the meteor was coming close to earth now as he finished the last few words. His hand beaming up towards the meteor as a small ball started forming of black mass.
"Disasustos vom, mas pro je ta sue te! Fes matos veras! Fes matos tribum, mas pro tes unum! Victas ex melam, fes matos vanem! Mas pro je ta sue te!"
The final words of the incantation as the winds picked up to heavy bursts around Maria as the fire spread outwards and with high flames as he flung the black mass towards the meteor with great velocity gathering in size as it picked up, the wind soon hitting altitude and going further faster and faster until. It hit.
The black mass exploded an into a big black mass as it consumed and enveloped the meteor quickly and soon. Gone. The meteor was erased, no trace of its existence as it vanished leaving only the flaming bird behind it. What was it? He wanted answers, its energy was off the chart's he could feel it in his bones which was amazing.
The wind's calmed and people were safe, they had the phoenix to deal with now.
"Are you guy's okay!?" he yelled at the two other's that were with him/

RYOU III The impact felt like a sledgehammer to my skull. For a moment, I thought I had lost consciousness and slept into a black dream, but my eyes opened to the blazing meteor and I felt the rapid tug of gravity on me, moving faster than I could drew in a breath. My claws dug into the rock as my wings beat furiously behind me; my entire body shook in its infinitesimal attempt to slow the meteor’s descent. I didn’t know how much speed it was losing but I prayed for even a second to count. The massive rock started to shift on my hold. The meteor was breaking apart. How was the other hero intending to destroy it? If they blasted it into pieces, a heavy casualty would remain. Many lives would still be lost. My claws raked the surface of the rock in frustration. There was nothing else that I could do. Suddenly, I felt my blood run cold as though the inferno around me had turned me to ice. I was sensing something terrible, something just as bad as or even worse than the meteor. It was coming from below. Was it the other hero’s doing? There had been no hint or sign, but I followed my instinct and fought to detach myself from the meteor. I flew across its radius, its blaze eagerly licking at me from underneath, when I saw something pitch black from below make contact with the meteor. Upon doing so, it exploded into a massive size, enough to cover the crashing rock, spreading faster than I could fly around it, darkness swallowing the light. When I pulled away from the black substance, it was gone along with the meteor. Blue color returned to the sky. And then, something assaulted me. I heard my own yowl erupt from my throat. My front limbs flailed helplessly as they reached to grab my pounding head. Images were assaulting my mind. A great bird of fire and light, its flames so vicious and unlike of the meteor’s that I could feel my eyes melting just by gazing on it. I saw it soar across space and settle on a star, its radiance dim beside the bird like a torch to the sun, and watched light swallow light as the bird consumed the inferior brilliance. My eyes snapped open. The clouds were growing farther and I could hear shrill screams under me. Realizing I was falling, I beat my wings with difficulty, as though my body had been turned to stone. What was that just now? The bird that I saw… I looked up and saw it idly blazing in where the meteor had been sent to oblivion. No, this wasn’t the same bird. The bird that I saw in my head had been much more powerful. This was some sort of piece of it, a remnant, if not a lesser copy of it. I descended back on the ground. In my exhaustion, I practically dropped onto it, the earth shuddering underneath my weight and my wings limply falling flat. I closed my eyes to rest. The vision did not come to me a second time. MARIA + daphne (ooc: that vision was brought to you by adimn deads. also, would you guys like to do rolls to determine what happens next?)

She was so worried for them both, it brought her to absolute tears. She cried feverishly, mostly in a tight mourning bleat that did not believe they could actually stop the meteor from burning, crushing, and incinerating them and all the civilians she wanted to protect. Hwever she looked up quick enough, eyes streaming hot tears as a sob was stuck in her throat, to see Maria launch a very devastating magical attack upon the falling chunk of space rock.
And she knew she wasn't strong enough for this, really.
In awe Daphne glances over to the magi with star-struck amber eyes. Before she can offer some sort of praise there's a whistling sound in the air, like something heavy was coming towards the Earth with its shattering bulk. Her eyes dart to see Ryou falling. But she was much too late to do anything about it; not like she could cushion his fall -- much too weak to carry a dragon of all things. What could see do, at this moment?
There is a heavy thud, and her body is lifted a few inches above the ground and dropped down at the same moment as he made a very clumsy landing. "Baaaah!" She cries out shrilly, much like a sheep in distress. Without thinking, Daphne grabs Maria's wrist tightly and runs over to the fallen dragon, practically dragging the magician with her. "I toldeth thee not to drive into battle! Don't frighten me like that, thee idiotic serpent!" Daphne only yelled because she was scared, her face flushed red as she wept angrily.
All the while she had not noticed the other impending threat as they did. She liked to live in the more, it was best to not worry about something until it actually happened. All she knew was that Ryou needed to be healed.
MARIA RYOU (I'm fine with that, of course~)

Maria looked at empty space the meteor was and sighed. His body returning to normal as he fell to his knees panting. He didn't like staying in that form, drained him too much to his liking.
Maria looked over at the dragon falling, trying to reach out his hand to cast a spell he was too late as the goat woman grabbed him and frantically carried him to the dragon that had befallen upon the earth. Today was so weird, he just wanted a vacation. But well, this is what happens in your daily life.
Maria felt himself being placed next to dragon as he examined him. Walking over to his head he pet's him softly, "You did well." he whispered resting next to him before looking around for the goat woman. "You, goat woman, what is your name?" he said still petting the dragon. He would deal with the bird in time, he had no fear of it.
Closing his eye's he pressed his palm's to the dragon's head. He was gonna do a massive healing wave, but probably exhaust himself more.
Here we go. "Phasmatos tribum, melan veras." he chanted, several times as he felt a wave of energy go into the dragon and then, throughout the ground of the floor. "Phasmatos tribum, melan veras." he repeated as the energy got stronger and eventually. A cascading wave of flower's flooded the area resonating outwards filling the field to the brim with roses.
Maria sighed heavily this time, too much energy used but he wasn't done. Waving his hand over a patch the weaved into a crown, picking it up he placed it on the dragon's head, "Belle la vie a cette fleur, maintentant." he whispered sighing before passing out next to the dragon. At least he was healed, right?
Flower's started wrapping around Maria as they started feeding him nutrition from the earth and sun, but it still wouldn't be enough, well very.

RYOU IV What did I see back there? I couldn’t help but think back of the flaming bird in my vision, and the same one – a weaker version – that now hovered above the city. It seemed like an omen, and I feared how close that omen was upon us. I needed to warn my comrades. I fought to open my eyes, waking to fierce, shrilly crying beside me. I saw the goat-horned nymph – Daphne, I now recalled – not even fighting the tears gushing out of her eyes, her face as red as a tomato, scrunched up in a worried-sick glare. I’m sorry, I wanted to say, but Daphne and the other hero kept disappearing from my vision as my eyes closed and opened. It had been eight years since my energy had left me completely like this, eight years since the alien invasion in Kingsport. I knew I was going to be fine with some rest, but I couldn’t resist musing what would happen if my eyes shut for the last time. If I strayed too far to death. My thoughts grew quiet; I found myself slipping into the edges of a vague dream, incomplete pictures flashing in the form of wisps and scattered concepts. Clarity slowly returned to me as I breathed deeply, in and out, and I remembered to wake up. When I did, a verdant landscape lush with red roses greeted me, surrounding me, reaching as far as what I could see. What happened? Air rushed out of my nostrils in a deep exhale. As I tried to move, I felt a small weight leaning against my head. I looked at the corner of my eyes and found the hero of the city asleep with her long, golden hair like Rapunzel flowing down her small frame. I searched for Daphne and pointedly looked at the sleeping hero, hoping she got my signal. I can’t shift back while she was so close and I needed to warn them of what I saw. Whatever it was that was up there, I didn’t feel like staying to find out. MARIA + daphne (ooc: well, maria's the new phoenix host and this seems like a good direction to go there xD and yes, ryou fell for the trap)

The bird of fire in the sky turns its head quizzically; not at the disappearance of its meteor, but at the power and intent that erased it. It feels, for the first time since landing on Earth, an attraction. Like to like. Possibly there is a host that can handle it for more than a handful of moments. The Phoenix is all-life and all-death, but it still yearns for completion, to fulfill its purpose. It dives out of the sky and crashes into Maria's unconscious body, gaining form and substance as it falls, pulling the pieces of itself together from across the country, the world, the cosmos. It envelops Maria's body in a crimson plume, but the real action will take place inside his mind. Phoenix steps into the light. MARIA |

Maria felt his body being tampered with, even for a split second while not in consciousness. Maria didn't know what was happening but he felt something. He felt something enter his being. His body shocked and he felt himself struggling. His body spasming out as he clutched his face, his eye's bleeding a red and orange light as he struggled to find himself. He was confused. What was happen to him?
His head throbbing so much, it felt like he had blood vessels popping left and right until he gave into the pain. It was maddening. His eye's pulsated a bright color as he felt himself being lifted, not a physical sense, more in a mental notice. Like the universe was his and then. It stopped.
His eye's opened as he felt around his body, his eye's and demeanor changed as he lifted up his hand examining it. A small smile grew on his face before he shook himself out of whatever he was in. He felt sick, it wasn't a feeling he enjoyed. In an attempt to compose himself he started grabbing his stomach to stop himself vomiting.
He felt a new consciousness in him, he could feel it. It enveloped his mind in its psionic power as he grasped an understanding of what happened and he knew. He was The Phoenix.

There was too much happening at one time. Daphne watched anxiously as the enigmatic blonde healed Ryou himself, and fidgeted awkwardly behind him as she occasionally looked over his slender shoulder. "O-Oh. Mine name is Daphne." She replies softly, twirling a finger around a single lock of blonde hair. But as soon as he finished, he collapsed beside the fallen dragon, obviously unconscious due to the strain it had put on his body. Daphne finally wipes away her tears and sighs, forcing herself to focus on the situation at hand. Ryou was healed at least, but now this stranger... the actual hero of the hour, needed to be attended to.
"Of course, now it's mine turn to clean up the mess..." She murmurs to herself with a chuckle as she reaches down to pick up the fallen Maria.
But then their whole body bursts into flames. Quite literally.
Daphne jumps back with a bleat of fright, before scurrying towards Ryou and hiding behind him. What was going on? The poor man seemed knocked cold just a second ago! He stands and staggers about, but he was... smiling? What was his game? She peers over Ryou's scaly flank and watches Maria with weary wide eyes, "...art thee well?"
