Online, he knows how to handle himself; offline, it's a different situation altogether. His real-life interactions so far are one or two childhood friends, and his butler, Tresillian. He doesn't feel or perceive emotions the way other people do; he learnt from books, and that hardly is anything to go off from. [break][break] He has a marked lack of interest in doing villainous things, and would definitely choose a good book over plotting mayhem. Iskander also lacks (?) a drive to engage in and see conflict through to the end. All the same, he's gotten pretty bored over the years ... [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details A long time ago, djinn were commonplace until they started dying out for various reasons. Today, not many clans of djinn are left, and even the once-illustrious Eltanins are down to one from their main family branch. Their relatives are usually less than 20% djinn, which makes them not very good at performing basic feats even djinn children are capable of. [break][break] The Eltanins were a family renowned for their predatory instinct and hunting skills (not to mention their command of elements and reality itself). They formed the backbone of an elite mercenary force several centuries back, and earned most of their money from their activities. Later on, good investment skills grew their finances, until today, where it is just left to rot by their current and only heir. [break][break] Born with good genes and into a comfortable lifestyle, Iskander hasn't had much to worry about until the Initiative happened. Even then, he didn't think too much of it, and still isn't aware that they consider him a villain due to his family history. Most of his time was spent online and/or gaming, and he made himself a name in pro-gaming under several different handles before he got bored of pitting his team against another of his own team. [break][break] Iskander eventually went back to his constant hobbies of reading and playing chess against himself. (Tresillian always lets him win.) Sometimes, he goes fishing. And then sometimes the Initiative sends people to give him a nice Talk, and he doesn't even know why they even bother. [PTab=IV.] [attr="class","appcat"]powers [attr="class","apptext"] [attr="class","subcat1"]djinn physiology In mythology, djinn are mysterious creatures with unfathomable powers. In modern times, they take on humanoid forms, but retain aspects of their djinn physiology, such as: unique eye colours, shifting between their smokeless fire/spiritual/human forms, and can appear invisible to mere mortals. The Eltanins were a family of elemental and wish-granting djinn. [break][break] Wish-granting djinn enjoy a greatly extended lifespan and decelerated aging. They are also immune to mental assaults and manipulations of any kind; after all, how exactly they warp reality and grant wishes is not something to be divulged to the public. [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]wish-granting Basically what it says on the tin. Iskander has the ability to grant wishes, but it's not something he can actively control at the moment. Wishes are not always granted perfectly. [break][break] Under normal conditions, spoken desires and random throwaway comments may be interpreted as wishes, and promptly granted. Under emotional stress, his wish-granting powers can and will go haywire. They are subjected to a few terms and conditions: [break][break] 0. It is granted based on how Iskander himself interprets the wish. [break][break] 0.5. People with wishes granted for them are marked with a unique marker. [break][break] 1. Wishes are never delayed, unless the wish itself is for something to arrive some time in the future. [break][break] 2. Wishes must always affect the wisher and their property. Hostages are counted as property. [break][break] 3. Wishes are granted by modifying at least one of the following factors: [break]Modality -- possibility/impossibility; [break]Probability -- chance of occurrence; [break]Frequency -- number of times occurred; [break]Intensity -- strength of a phenomena; [break]Duration -- length of time; [break]Timing -- time of occurrence; [break][break] ... there may be more rules that Iskander himself isn't aware of. (Such as dice rolls.) [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]eidetic memory Iskander has the ability to remember and recall anything with perfect accuracy. And being a djinn, knowing your stuff is vital to making sure wishes are granted appropriately. (Also knowing how to perfect your favourite levels in any game is important for entertainment.) [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]gamer The Eltanins evolved over time based on their personal style. No longer did they need to know someone's real name to grant a wish, or were they limited to granting only one wish for one person during their lifetime. Some of them even gained creation-destruction powers to be feared. And then you have Iskander. |
Similar to how right-clicking allows a player to view a target's status in-game. As long as that person is within his vision (screens included), he can view their health and basic information (aka tab II in the app for player characters). Certain targets are more vulnerable to this. For player characters, this means that he can view tab IV, but only the names of their powers.
Eating and drinking replenishes his health and energy, and heals wounds depending on what was consumed. Being on drugs probably puts him on overdrive. Consuming herbal concoctions would also cure him of status afflictions. Sitting down and/or sleeping also helps with regeneration.
He no longer needs to chant verses or recite spells to use any of his skills. They are all assigned to mental hotkeys, which allows him to fire them off whenever he needs to.
Familiar with chat channels? When he verbally speaks, he has the option to broadcast his speech in various channels. So far, this includes /general, /shout, /whisper (name), /party, and /guild. (/party applies to all players in a thread that's on his side; /guild would ideally apply to all villains.) Distance is usually not a factor.
Iskander is not subjected to complete time-stops, or replays of time. He can break through these timey-wimey things, but he becomes slower and/or rubberbands through the entire process. It's not pleasant, but at least he's still living in reality.
He can place a visual marker on one target as long as it is within physical sight during application. Even if it moves away from his sight, Iskander can still trace the marker, provided that he is in a relaxed state and/or the target experiences sharp spikes of emotion. People whom he has granted wishes for are marked by default, and are the exception to the 'one target at a time' rule.
Having an innate instinct for anything as soon as he tries it is one thing, but being able to perform it to its full potential is a completely different matter. Thankfully, with practice comes performance, and with no stat ceiling in sight ...
Iskander's inventory lies in hammerspace. He cannot deposit living beings in it, but anything else is fair game. His current limit is about 30 unique items or so. (Items are stackable.)
Placing a home marker (usually Tresillian, but anything else of personal importance will also suffice) in a location allows Iskander to mark that place as home. By activating this skill and remaining still for ten seconds or so, he can instantaneously warp back to home base.
[attr="class","subcat"]inheritance
Turned ageless and immortal several generations ago, Tresillian continues to serve the Eltanin family to the best of his ability.
[break][break]
His abilities include, but are not limited to incredible cooking skills, household management, turning into a cat, and warping to places that Iskander calls home. It is unknown if it is possible for him to leave home for purposes other than grocery shopping.
The Eltanins were one of the richest families back in their heyday. Today, their coffers and property ownership have reduced significantly, but they are still richer than 75% of people. (Thanks, Tresillian!)
Iskander's family mansion is pretty similar to 12 Grimmauld Place, which does not exist if you don't know what exactly you're looking for. It does not seem to have any specific location, as one of his ancestors had apparently done something to it.
[break][break]
Its major feature is its library, which has a trove of continually-changing books not easily found anywhere else in the world. Iskander still hasn't read all of the books it has to offer, nor explored all of its many rooms.
