She is a ball of constant cheer and chatter, often speaking her thoughts before having completed them. Her amicable and sincere demeanor often balance out any unfortunate statements she happens to make. She is absurdly friendly: she does not merely like making friends, she needs them. Those who make her acquaintance would find her, at certain points, rather meddlesome and clingy. It depends on the person if one views her as an annoying airhead, or simply someone intensely interested in others. Well, it is not like the two are mutually exclusive. [break][break] Despite any first impressions she might make, Alice is rather intelligent. Perhaps not in the academic sense, and she certainly has problems with complex and technical concepts, but she is quick to think on her feet (although she doesn't quite have them now), to notice facts and put them together. She is not afraid to tackle problems head on, to experiment with new things to see what would happen, although at times she can be rather reckless, leaping before she looks. [break][break] Beyond all this, Alice is simply a lonely girl--- one who struggles to follow the footsteps of a father she had lost, who she only recently knew as an acclaimed superhero. Losing her physical body meant she would never be able to compete in the sports that she liked, and meant only so many people could communicate with her without being too suspicious, and this has dealt great blows to her psyche. In response, certain parts of her personality have become more pronounced, even exaggerated--- a defense mechanism against the cruel world. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Once upon a time, there was a hero--- although later he would be branded as a vigilante--- known as the Electromancer. He specialized in all sorts of robotics and computers, using drones equipped with various technologies to fight villains. Few have ever met him in person; he was a secretive man. And so, even though he participated in repelling the alien invasion of 2008, he declined to be part of the Initiative, and soon vanished from the public eye, generating all sorts of rumors. [break][break] To Alice, he was just Dad. Of course, she didn't know then her father's alter ego. All she knew was that he was often away from home, as a professor of computer engineering and science in a prestigious university, with the alibi of going to various conventions in other countries. Her mother had died a few years after she was born, in an accident, or so she was told. She, in her early childhood, was often left alone at home with the couple of maids that tended their house. [break][break] Because of this arrangement, she quickly learned to be independent. To quell her loneliness, she constantly attempted to make friends, and put on a mask of cheer in the hopes that it would stick. She was not quite as smart as her father--- in fact, her grades in math and science tended to suck--- but she was a great speaker and writer, and she excelled in sports. Though at times it hit a few bumps, her education progressed continuously. [break][break] Then, around 2009, Godfrey retired. He was at home much, much more often than before, and while there was an initial awkwardness between them, Alice managed to be reacquainted with her parent. The girl and her father worked tirelessly to make up for the lost time between them; her friends even took to calling her 'Daddy's Girl', since she now split her time between him and them. Still, sometimes, his father would disappear into their house's basement, where she was forbidden to enter, for hours at end. [break][break] And then, of course, tragedy struck. Without warning, one day, a group of heavily armed people attacked their home, looking for the Electromaster. They were surrounded on all sides. In a last ditch effort, Godfrey brought her finally to the forbidden basement, which was covered in all sorts of technology--- technology the armed men coveted. Her father put her into an unfamiliar machine, turned it on, and said goodbye. Then, they were both gunned down. They both died. [break][break] Or, well, that was what was supposed to happen. Somehow... her father's machine did something. Her spirit was separated from her dead body... and she became a sort of ghost. It took her a while to get her bearings, to learn what she could do... and she still had to mourn. Once she had managed to completely compose herself, she started looking into what was known about the Electromancer. Who had sought him, and who had wanted his machines? [break][break] She now wanders the internet, and through it, the world, seeking answers. And... well, there is only so much she could do, but if she could do justice to her father's name, maybe she would try to do so, too. [attr="class","subcat"]trivia Alice's initials spell out ACdC. Alternating Current, Direct Current~[break][break] Her birthday, October 29, was the date in 1969 when the first ARPANET link was established--- the network that would become the Internet. She is invisible and intangible to most people without the requisite spiritual skills, and can phase through solid barriers. She does not need to eat and sleep. She can float down harmlessly from heights, but lacks an actual ability to fly. However, unlike other ghosts, in her moment of death her spirit was encoded into an electronic format, making her resistant to most magical and supernatural ways of controlling and banishing ghosts, without her permission. (A combined approach of magic and technology might be more effective?) [break][break] Furthermore, she is able to interact with electricity and electronic devices, as noted in her other powers, below. However, this comes with the weakness that she can only be in areas that have electric power or signals; her presence and consciousness diminishes in areas that lack both of these, with the sudden removal of these factors possibly lethal to her (blackouts are scary). Her essence similarly fluctuates during electric surges and similar phenomena, making her slightly more visible and tangible. [attr="class","subcat"]Electrokinesis Alice can perceive and control electricity, as she is partially made of it, herself, in her current state. She can't create it, though, and so has to rely on other sources to provide it for her to be able to use it. As such, the scale of her electrokinetic abilities is proportionate to the electricity she has available on hand--- and as the scale increases her control won't be very good, since she hasn't had many chances to play with large amounts of current. [attr="class","subcat"]Technological Possession Alice can hijack electronic devices and understand completely how they work. She can force them to do her bidding, or even short-circuit them, cause them to malfunction, or even explode. She can only possess one device at a time, although there are ways around this limit (see Self-Replication below). If a certain device is connected to a network or even the Internet, she can use it to travel to other devices connected to that same network, in effect transporting herself through distances at the speed of the network connections. [attr="class","subcat"]Data Manipulation While within an electronic device, Alice can interfere with its programming directly in a way most hackers can only hope to emulate--- while as a human she does not know anything about computer programming, in her digital form, programs and firewalls and viruses and whatnot are simple physical puzzles for her to fiddle with, although they can also hurt her if she isn't careful. However, of course, she has to access the device where the data is in order to manipulate it. [attr="class","subcat"]Computer Thinking When within an electronic device, Alice can use the processors of that device as additional brains, allowing her to think more and faster than normal. Of course, the efficacy of this power depends on how good the hardware of the device is. [attr="class","subcat"]Self-Replication When within an electronic device with enough memory and processing power, Alice can split into iterations of herself, the number increasing in proportion to the resources she has at hand. Both are equally Alice, and share the same mind, although there is a possibility that if one iteration ends up somewhere disconnected from the network other Alices are in, they will have to fend for themselves; the other Alices will only know what she thinks and what she has experienced once she has reconnected. At any time that the Alices are connected, they can merge back into one entity. Alice will survive as long as one iteration remains; it does not have to be the original. |
