there is a vigilante operating in brooklyn's brighton beach neighbourhood calling himself the domovoi. secretive and rarely seen, all most people really know about the man is that he's enormous, magically gifted, and usually the reason and petty criminals or mid to low level villains operating in the area end up rushed under huge slabs of compressed, almost petrified dirt and the twisted wreckage of their own vehicles.

the domovoi is in fact andriy 'andy' orlov, kamila's father, an american-ukrainian postal worker living in brighton beach itself. this makes kamila a second-generation american super, and the newest scion of a family lineage traceable back to the middle ages. since infancy she's practiced the form of magic handed down through the generations, and now she's striking out on her own across the water in kingsport, having gone to live with an accomplished witch-heroine aunt there at 12. after all, kamila had started to outpace even her father, showing an insatiable drive and enthusiasm to get better and better. you wouldn't be wrong if you called her a prodigy.

her upbringing has been one that emphasises justice and the protection of the weak, and so kamila is something of a righteous overachiever - registered with the Initiative at sixteen, rushing out unbidden to whatever calls she hears about, and unfailingly polite and conscientious when the public are involved. unlike many initiative heroes she thrives on interaction with normal citizens, rather than enduring them or simply basking in the glow of their adoration.

however, kamila's time spent with her aunt has taught her about all she can learn, and her natural curiosity and drive to learn is starting to get her into trouble. the path of her research is getting darker and darker, into uncharted and unsanctioned territory, but she can't stop now. not when there could be more ways to help those in need...

kamila's primary technique, the one that anchors her entire skill set, is a bit of a strange one for a hero - she is able to call unbound souls to her location on the mortal plane through the use of various incantations and summoners' marks. these can range from naturally-occurring spirits to extant human souls of the deceased. these spirits are non-corporeal and semi-opaque, without the ability to affect anything that exists solely on the mortal plane. they are also not necessarily bound to her will - individual nature spirits can be more of a handful than a group of human ones, if only because people usually obey when asked nicely, and require less of her concentrated will to direct. she isn't in the habit of employing unbound spirits for any reason but as a smokescreen, but she's looking into applications to disrupt enemy spell casters. the human souls called are capable of communication, able to remember limited details of their past lives and are aware they are dead, but have no knowledge of any afterlife they may have experienced. it's all a blur, they say.



to enable her soul friends to have a direct effect on the environment and enemies of truth and freedom and beauty and love, kamila has developed and refined a way to create earth-elemental constructs as temporary vessels. from anything that uses mud, clay, stone or sand as a component, she is able to fashion creatures - usually in animal shapes, because the poor girl is allowed to lack imagination - to be inhabited as battle-ready bodies by a number of spirits that form a single gestalt entity. they can hit as hard or lift as much as their materials can withstand without breaking, but they tend to be a little straightforward, without much tactical thought. they're autonomous, but kamila tends to employ them only in groups of three - while she can make more, they tend to start getting in each other's way in any great numbers. generally the only reason she would make any more is to aid in disaster relief efforts.



kamila's last technique is one she keeps very secret and uses very seldom - she is able, for periods of up to 24 hours, to bind a single human soul back into their own recently-deceased body, with the application of huge quantities of her own magical energy and binding circles to the body itself. the person is restored, if only for a short time, with all of their knowledge and memories intact, and lives until the magic imbued into the body is exhausted or the binding marks are broken. she has never used it in the public eye - it is, however, useful to be able to ask deceased people details of the thing that killed them, or a chance to say goodbye. obviously disturbing the rest of the dead is not something she does lightly, but she's wondering if it might not be something she should develop. right now the duration is limited by her reserves of power - it takes huge effort for her to pull the breath of life back into a body, to make them a living person and not just a corpse doll animated by an incomplete soul, and the strain will usually put her out of commission for a couple days. but that just makes her want to see if she can really grant true life back to those with their time cut short...
