[attr="class","subcat"]biographical details I. Set-up for a modern day prince charming. On his mother's side, the business empire with a finger in every pie, from a department store to cars, from home electronic to defense contracts. On his father's side, the old money, European titles, centuries of high society. But he's the son of two black sheep who only ever failed at doing exactly what they were told. [break][break] II. He's born premature, and neither he nor his health ever quite meet expectations after that. Where his parents were forces of nature, he was some quiet little garden somewhere - soft and kind and beautiful, and far too fragile. [break][break] III. His spotty health isolates him first, early years spent in and out of hospitals for various childhood miladies and under the watchful eye of protective parents and home nurses sent by the extended family to care for the young heir. [break][break] IV. His powers isolate him second. They (very discreetly) run in the family, though they've been scarce the last couple of generations. The Family, ever-watchful, want him back in England to be trained. His parents see he doesn't have the health or disposition for those kinds of rigors and choose to mind him themselves. But the Family demands utmost discretion to avoid the potential scandal of revealed metahuman genes, so his time becoming well-adjusted to his abilities are also spent cloistered away at remote estates with private tutors. [break][break] V. He isn't unhappy. His parents give him what freedoms he asks for, though their aren't many, and they encourage him toward the artistic pursuits he seems most passionate about. He knows he's loved. It's only that he's still lonely. [break][break] VI. Things might have turned around in high school if it weren't for the aliens. Eased into a private school in his junior high years, finally healthy enough and stable enough to join the real world. He made friends easily with his accepting and patient disposition. But then there's an incident, one that could be considered minor compared to the attack on Kingsport just a year earlier, and Lucas falls into what you might call collateral damage. [break][break] VII. They're not sure exactly what it is. Part of a spacecraft that was shot off or maybe a piece of one of their weapons. Something was blown out of the sky and hits an office building in midtown Manhattan, where Lucas is sitting in on a business meeting. Shrapnel lodges in his chest and leaks a metallic substance that enters his bloodstream, triggering a violent reaction from which he is barely saved, though the effects will be long-term. [break][break] VIII. He's dying. There's always a new treatment to try, but by twenty he's sure he's already lived longer than he's supposed to. So he leads a quiet life, in a little shop his family's set aside for him to have some peace. He sells rare books, home made goods like soap and incense, art. Paper craft, of course. Little trinkets and things. Never unhappy, just unfulfilled. He's capable of this even at mass quantities, though the more paper there is and the more complex the manipulation, obviously the more concentration and strain it takes. He's also able to repair damaged paper to its original state. His ability doesn't allow him to directly create paper out of nothing. [attr="class","subcat"]papyrokinetic constructs Lucas can make functional paper versions of almost anything, so long as he has a working knowledge of how something operates. From cooking utensils, to weapons, to buildings, so long as he has the paper for it. Simple objects, like a backpack or sword, maintain functionality and a realistic degree of permanence even if he's not present or consciously manipulating it. More complex items with many theoretical working parts need his direct attention. He can also create apparent lifeforms; these seem to possess a very low level of sapience, but it's actually more due to an almost empathic sort of link with Lucas that the creation simulates independence. [attr="class","subcat"]paper augmentation The paper Lucas manipulates can become stronger, sharper, more durable, and generally just more powerful than regular paper, in the sense that objects formed from the paper will function as intended, without crumpling and tearing right away. He can also split paper to an extent of nearly doubling the initial amount in order to effectively generate more of it for use. The paper is still more vulnerable to water and especially fire damage, if a bit less so than regular paper. |
