Whereas the years may have had the sect associate less and less with the church and their growing mercy towards such creatures, their dedication to doing what is right for the people and the sacred view they have on their work has never tarnished. [break][break] Valentina was given to the order after they marched through a nearby town in search of magically adept recruits, and she proved positive to the sacred sigil's magic. The order is all she has known from the age of three; living by the spear, dreaming of parchment after parchment of sigils and incantations, and breathing her enemy, their movement patterns, evidence of presence, combat tactics. She earned her armour at the age of fifteen, and was granted the title of Seraphim, the Protector. Over ten years of hunting and fighting, she was deemed a considerable asset; her combat skill only trumped by her ability with magic, and the ruthlessness in which she put the supernatural to rest. Give a measure of leeway, and the demonic forces will take advantage. Unfortunately, some others were weak. [break][break] During the purge of a refugee camp on the Moldovan-Romanian border, a fellow knight extended his hand to help a child. Their orders were clear; the entire camp was to be eliminated and burned with purification essence. She watched their hands connect, and the child immediately fell back, pale. Dead. She was not stupid. This had been in many, many scrolls; possession. Whatever disgusting being was now wearing the gloss armour of the hallowed was not going to be allowed to make it back to the fort. Without a second thought, Valentina murmured an incantion under her breath, eyes fixed on the point of her spear; only silencing when the sigil inscriptions glowed. With a single thrust, the spear pierced the knight's back with a cry. Another moment, and she whispered the final word, magical energy exploding from the blade and tearing the front of him open. He would rest well knowing that his spirit was no longer tainted. [break][break] Following purification, the journey back to the fort was unusually quiet. She made to follow her fellow knights instead, but their leader stopped her. She branded her a Judas, a kinslayer, said that she would not have such a tainted spirit within the fort again. Pleading her case brought her no mercy, not even an apology, they did not believe her. It was a miracle that they allowed her to keep her armour and weapons, and provided a small package of supplies that would help her go elsewhere. A fate worse than death it was called; living without the purpose instilled since infancy. [break][break] With no sense of direction or what to do, she travelled for a fortnight, stopping to rest in the middle of fields or tucked against tree roots. With no supplies left, desperate, she thought she imagined a convoy of people outside what seemed like a small shack; it seemed like a mirage. She shouted out anyway, dragged herself to them, begged for help. It was such a bone-deep relief to be spoken to again, and they helped her. Little did she know, she would find her purpose with their leader, and travel to places she'd never imagine. She is equally as deadly with a wide number of one and two-handed weaponry, as well as unarmed combat. [attr="class","subcat"]magitech enhanced hallowed armour and spear As a trusted knight of The Dread Knight , Seraphim's hallowed armour has been upgraded, offering her enhanced protection and increased strength. Her left gauntlet features a crest that expands into a tower shield made of her defensive magicks, with its durability able to be increased through her incantations. The back of her armour features a jump jet that allows her to jump increased distances, whether vertically or horizontally, to allow either the element of surprise with her spear, or extra reconnaissance. Fold-out magitech wings allow her to glide distances and allow for a smoother landing. [break] [break] Her spear has been modified to return to her on command, with its head replaced by a stronger metal, allowing her to pierce the toughest of armour. [attr="class","subcat"]extensive knowledge on supernatural beings Nurtured with the sole purpose of eliminating all manner of demonic being, her knowledge on everything from physiology and capabilities to behavioural traits and the spoor of each species is encyclopedic. [attr="class","subcat"]touch-sensitive linguistic magic Using verbal incantations, Seraphim can create spell sigils through touch, with varying effects. As long as her hand remains in contact with a surface, she may cast a sigil anywhere along its surface, as long as it is in line of sight. The only exception for this are barriers, which encapsulate the target surface. [attr="class","subcat"]absorption barrier generation Through incantation sigils, Seraphim can create a barrier around the surface or person she's touching, allowing it to absorb the energy of whatever hits it, rather than deflect it. The longer she charges the incantation for, the more damage it can take. [attr="class","subcat"]explosive energy mines While this incantation requires longer passages, and therefore more time, Seraphim is able to create magical energy mines that appear in the form of softly glowing sigils. These can be triggered by either a command word or proximity - dependant on the spell used - from any range once placed. The longer she takes creating the mine, they bigger the explosion it will produce. |
