She considers herself a failure of a superhero and often wonders why she registered into the Initiative in the first place, or even how considering that these days she can barely motivate herself to pick up a dropped spoon. Though often set upon by bouts of sorrow, she's mostly in a state of melancholy and apathy. Nothing in life seems meaningful. Happiness is often short and fleeting, dull and washed out. She sees the world in monochrome but she finds no reason why she should seek color. [break][break] She thinks about death a lot but is too afraid to actually, you know, embrace it. Occasionally she spends six hours alternating between laying on the floor staring at the ceiling and sitting on a chair staring at the wall. She hates herself. She's unorganized, scatterbrained, and reclusive. She puts off showering for weeks at a time. She's always making excuses to not to something, both to herself and others. Sometimes she eats so much that she throws up, and then eats so little that she passes out. Her mental state and living space are deteriorating. And the list goes on. [break][break] Things aren't going well for her. [break][break] Languid and defeated though she is, Yolande is truly selfless, caring for others more than herself. In fact, it seems that the only reason she keeps living is so that she can continue helping others in every way she can despite how unmotivated she is. Though she comes off as reclusive and emotionless, it's not hard to figure out that she wants the best for others. It's too bad she finds it so difficult to pull herself out of her miserable existence. [break][break] She wants to get better, she really does, but... at the same time she doesn't. It's hard for her to explain, so she doesn't. People with good intentions but little understanding persistently push her to be a more balanced person. When she fails, she can almost taste the disappointment and frustration emanating from them, causing her to shut further into herself. Some superhero she is, skipping out on missions just because she can't bring herself to go outside some days. The things she used to be so passionate about, like cooking and baking, no longer hold any appeal to her. Really, the only idea that appeals to her is the distant hope that one day, she'll go to sleep and never wake up again. [break][break] Why is she like this? If only she knew. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Once upon a time, an old man stumbled into a forest, weak and hungry. He asked three woodland animals, a monkey, a fox, and a rabbit, for food. They gladly obliged. The monkey brought him fruits, and the fox brought him fish. But, alas, the rabbit could only gather grass. Unable to bear seeing the old man grow hungry, the rabbit requested for a large fire to be built, then threw itself into it to be roasted. But it was not burned. The old man revealed himself to be, in fact, the old man in the moon. Impressed by the rabbit's selflessness, he carried it to the moon, where it still dwells today. [break][break] That's how one of the legends go, anyway. And it's true, but with a slight, recent twist. The rabbit wished for a knight, good and true, to represent it. And so it reincarnated itself into a child.[break][break] Yolande was born in Tokyo with a French mother and Japanese father, which explains her mixed appearance and name. Though quiet, she was at first a cheerful and lovely child. This temperament lingered all throughout elementary and middle school. Then, for some reason, it dispersed upon the beginning of her high school career. [break][break] Her mental state deteriorated. At first she was filled with only sadness, crying and crying for the most trivial of reasons. All this sorrow, though, tore down her emotions until there was nothing left. She was numb. Her grades dropped sharply. Her parents had no idea what to do, and they were only able to watch as their only daughter withered away into a husk of her former self. [break][break] At the same time, though, her latent powers began to emerge. Yolande had always excelled in the culinary arts, but the food she prepared could now perform miracles. A bite of bread could cure a blood disease. A sip of coffee could slip someone into an eternal coma. When other abilities came to light, her parents soon realized that she was, in fact, a superhero. [break][break] They urged her to join the Initiative, which was all the way in another country, for Christ's sake. She was fluent in English due to her classes at school (though her vocabulary isn't super advanced yet), but she didn't feel ready to make such a jarring move. Then again, she never felt ready for anything these days. She registered upon her eighteenth birthday, if only because she certainly couldn't get into a good college now with her grades. She moved to Kingsport, alone, to pursue her newfound career as a superhero. Her senses, dexterity, and agility in general are enhanced greatly. She also possesses a prey instinct that allows her to become a master of evasion, able to sense and evade danger. She often receives the inexplicable, irresistible urge to sacrifice herself for causes she deems worthy, such as putting her life on the line to save another. Finally, under the light of the moon all of her powers and enhancements are greatly increased in strength. This is the reason why she mainly fights at night, if she does decide to fight at all. [attr="class","subcat"]lunar manipulation Yolande can manipulate aspects of the moon. The moon has an effect on Earth even when it isn't night, so she can use this power in the daytime too, but it will be much weaker. She can create and shape its gravity and the effects it has on the planet, reflective surface, time-keeping, etc. and use its lunar energy. Though she can use lunar energy for ordinary energy-based attacks, forcefields, constructs, etc. it is best used for its healing and life-giving effect. She can use this energy to seal wounds in the body, mind, and soul. This way she can remove curses, malicious spirits, and the like. She can also use lunar energy to create small, preserving pocket dimensions that she can store items in. She can retrieve and store these items upon will. Finally, she can enchant objects with lunar power, granting them mild healing and calming effects. [attr="class","subcat"]conceptual cooking This applies to the preparation and creation of all foods and beverages. All food she prepares will have some kind of miraculous or malicious effect. A candied apple can grant the consumer an abundance of good luck, while a roast beef dish can curse another with eternal suffering. She has no control over what effects her prepared food will produce and only knows what these effects are after the food is fully prepared. [attr="class","subcat"]the moon rabbit's sacrifice Yolande can sacrifice herself or aspects of herself whenever she wishes in order to save another or aspects of another. Essentially, she can transfer pieces of herself, whether physical or not, for the benefit of another. This can be as trivial as sacrificing a little of her good luck to transfer it to another, or as major as sacrificing her existence for the conception of another. [attr="class","subcat"]parkour Due to her enhanced agility and a bit of practice, Yolande can freerun pretty well. There is no flash or dazzle to her freerunning, as she only uses this skill for efficiency rather than show. |
