Evelyn was a workaholic, but her work didn't always keep her bound to her office in Innsmouth. Sometimes her patients preferred to be met elsewhere, and she didn't mind a change of atmosphere every now and then. Admittedly she catered to her patients, but it was better they were comfortable all things considering. Dealing with supers made her practice different, her work interesting, but required a higher level of trust that she was willing to give to those that needed her help.
At any rate, it was the reason she had most recently left K-town, heading for home far past her usual work hours. Evelyn slid into her black hybrid vehicle and glanced at the time before heaving a sigh. Bloody hell she was exhausted, and it was already passed 1:45am. Thankfully the traffic had lightened up thanks to the late hour, but that didn't keep her from worrying herself about her schedule tomorrow morning and how little sleep she was going to get.
It was when she was outside K-town, on the highway headed to Innsmouth to stop by her office before home, when her car just suddenly died. There had been no warning sign at all, or at least she hadn't noticed any of the lights come on before they all shut off. Granted her mind had been preoccupied with other things while she drove. Tomorrow was going to be a headache, that she already knew, as it was validated while she was forced to pull off to the side of the road and put her car in park.
Evelyn knew nothing about vehicle repair. Ask her questions about the brain, behaviors in people and how it defined their actions, but cars? She was no mechanic, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to at least check to see what might be wrong. Still dressed in a pencil shirt, heels, and a white button down, Evelyn hopped out of her car and went to go pop the hood. 'This can't be too hard right? Right. Maybe I'm out of oil. When did I last check that?...' "Crap." The woman mumbled under her breath as she flashed her cellphones light on the interior under her hood. Maybe it was best to just call a cab.

A car, fairly in brand and with no nameplate, stopped outside the broken down car of the strangely dressed psychologist. Azrael's window rolled down to observe the car, as Azrael popped out of the side to look at the inside of the car's engine. "Let me give you a hand." He spoke, rather loudly, over the sound of cars whizzing over them. Sentinel Hill was one of the more busy provinces, and traffic was always an issue. Pulling over his beaten down car towards the side, Azrael moved over to help out the lady.
How he looked did not exactly show a good first impression, he was unkempt and had not had a haircut in a while, and had bundled his hair into a makeshift ponytail. His clothing had been drawn from a discount store. But such was life when being hounded. Likewise, he could not use his powers to help this woman, even though a single touch from the Philosopher's Stone would resolve this, he'd have to rely on whatever he had at hand.
"Don't you hate it when everything goes to shit for no reason?" He chuckled, in his falsely acquired, yet near perfect Manhattan accent. "So, what's your deal miss?" He said, leaning on the hood to look down at the broken hybrid, his eyes traced the smoke from the engine. He could immediately tell the problem, but it wouldn't be able to be resolved without heading to a repair shop. "Dressed up like one of those doctor people, in a broken car, heading into a ghetto location, seems to me like you're on the run."

Evelyn lightly tugged on a sort of lever that she thought was the thing that would help check for how much oil her car had, but winced as she pulled it back after a second of near burning herself. She truly hated feeling at a loss. For someone that prided herself in being well versed in her work, it almost made her too proud to even consider calling a tow truck. However, she knew that she couldn't just stay out here like this all night. She had to work tomorrow morning, or rather a few hours. There was still so much that needed to be done and she couldn't skip out.
Blowing lightly on the tip of her pointer finger, Evelyn glanced over at a car she'd heard pull up beside her own. A man with a noticeable accent was offering to help, and admittedly she was in no position to refuse him. She stepped aside, turning to watch as he pulled over and got out of his vehicle. Tucking long strands of dark locks behind her right ear, she couldn't help but smile weakly at his first words upon approach. "It's unpleasant I can't deny that."
She shrugged, turning her eyes to the inside of her car as he took a look himself. She was aware that she looked a bit out of place in this side of town, but it didn't bother her. She could only hope it didn't bother him either, considering she wasn't the arrogant sort that flaunted her success in front of others to intentionally degrade them. His description of her appearance was sweet though. Having him put it that way rather then flat out calling her some high class looking snob, it was nice of him if not a bit amusing his ultimate assumption.
She smiled, chuckling lightly before waving her free hand once in dismissal. "Not at all no." She had too many responsibilities to even take a legitimate vacation, let alone try and 'run away'. "I was just working. Sometimes it requires me to pull myself away from the office." Evelyn peeked down at the inside of her car once more, sighing to herself. "I'm a sort of doctor actually, but unfortunately I'm completely useless when it comes to cars."

"Sort of a doctor eh?" He stated, placing the palm of his hand towards the engine, then stopped and pulled back, pulling a grin at the young doctor. "Makes it sound like you're about to cut some organs up lady." He flicked his phone to call a tow truck. "Sorry to say but your car's alternator heated up. An alternator's like... a uhh, battery for the car's electricity storage. You're gonna have to go get your car fixed by your company, and probably ask for a refund." He winked.
"I'm John, by the way." He spoke, raising an arm to shake her hand, "John Gray, nice to meet ya." Given that it was a fairly common name, he didn't really have an issue with speaking it out loud. "If you need a ride, I can take you to where you need to go." He pointed back at the beat up Honda he had made to look inconspicuous, "It's not much but it moves and I got Google Maps, so I can take you where you need."

Well she was being a bit humble albeit, but considering her patients security she was wary to admit her official job title to a stranger unless he seemed to need her help too. Though clearly she was the one in need here, that was without question. She smirked at his the organ comment, placing a hand to her forehead a bit embarrassed herself. Christ she was tired, laughing at something so grim. "God that's so awful. That's not what I meant, it's just Doctor Patient confidentiality."
She lowered her hand from her features, peeked over at him as he expressed the disappointing truth about her car and pulled out his own phone. Well, it was apparent now more than ever that she really was stranded here. Such a smile dissolver. Maybe she would just pull an all nighter. While in thought she listened to him attentively still, familiar with the terms just not their importance in her vehicle. This was going to be a huge problem, traveling to and from work, and while his wink would have made her smirk again in a normal circumstance being troubled with her situation she dismissed it for more pressing issues.
Her response to his name and offer was a bit belated therefore, but pulling herself out of her own worry of actually leaving her car out on the street to be towed she finally managed to speak. The furrow in her brow softened as she looked at him, then at his hand then back again. "Evelyn Inoue," She reached out a hand to shake his. "Pleasure, despite the circumstances." As far as a ride, she knew she could get a cab on the phone, though the tow truck would probably get here before a cab honestly, what with the roads still being relatively busy as they were.
She thought about it a moment, and nodded. "Sure." It wasn't the first time she'd accepted a ride from a stranger, despite how most of her colleagues might consider her a total stick in the mud. "Let me just get a few of my things." Evelyn stepped around her car, hopped in and began gathering things of utter importance: her purse, shoulder bag with confidential patient information inside. Other then that most of her car was immaculate. She looked over the dashboard to silently reassure herself, took her keys and reluctantly left it unlocked for the tow truck access to move it. "Thanks for stopping to help, you didn't have to do that, but you did and I do appreciate it." She said while tucking her cellphone into her purse and adjusting the strap of her bag over her shoulder.
"I can pay for the gas, since the drive might be a bit of an inconvenience."

"Evelyn huh?" Azrael spoke, his accent adjusted to the American accent. "You have a pretty laugh, Doc." As she went to get her things, the British-turned-false-American took a moment to realize who she was exactly. While psychology was not his field, he had taken an interest in theses of superhuman psychology and mental health treatments available to meta-humans and aberrant life-forms.
The tow truck did not take much longer to arrive, and the process itself was relatively quick. As the car was lifted and transported for repairs, Azrael turned to some surprise, he could feel the base of his neck heat up slightly. "Oh... no don't mention it, you're just gonna make me blush haha. I'm new here myself, but I couldn't really just stand by and leave you out here alone in the world's most dangerous city y'know?" He gave a mild shrug and responded with mild laughter.
"Alright well, come on in Secret Agent Doctor Evelyn." He joked, opening the door for her before getting in himself. The Honda was, as he had said, rather beat up, but the interior of it was clean, if older. It had been completely brand new the day before, but with a little bit of Azrael's touch, the disguise was through and through. Fiddling with his iPhone, he set up Google Maps and began to drive.
"Hmm, payment?" He looked briefly towards her before returning to the road, he chuckled. "Nah, that's alright Doc. Appreciate the offer but there's no need." He continued to drive along the designated route of the path to her intended destination, speaking up after a moment's notice. "But uhh, how about a cup of coffee some time? I don't know too many people in Kingsport. Would be nice to have someone to talk to sometime."

Despite herself he got a smile out of her. Evelyn surrounded herself in her work. Yes, she sort of had a problem, but she was good at her job or at least she tried to be. Being surrounded by patients, coworkers, it made compliments like the one he'd given her rarer to hear. She was sure that her subordinates were mostly just scared of her, but she preferred a professional environment in the work place. Still, it made her life out of work boring and lonely. Not that she'd ever admit it.
She thanked him though, before watching her poor car get hooked up and taken away. She really disliked public transportation, but it looked like for at least a couple days, until she could get a rental of some kind, that she was going to be taking the train and or the bus to work. She was stressed at the thought but didn't show it so much. The girl was good at keeping herself contained, that was for sure.
"Worlds most dangerous huh? I don't know. There are a lot of Heroes living in this area. Besides, I can handle myself." She tilted her head and gave him another smile, her words partially teasing though she was genuine about the latter. Of course he wouldn't know what her hobbies were, though the way he spoke after opening the car door for her she was beginning to think he at least knew of her now. It's not as though her name was a complete secret.
"You're too much." Evelyn replied as she climbed into his car. It was a bit shabby, but it didn't bother her at all. She was a perfectionist in her own right but at least he didn't have trash all over the seat or the floor. She adjusted her shirt after seating herself, pulling it down just a tad, before pulling her seat belt over her to buckle in. She really did feel the need to pay him for the gas, but she worried that pushing it would make him feel inferior or that he looked like he needed the money. At his offer to take her out however she couldn't help but smirk and giggle briefly. "You sure you didn't just stop by my car to ask me out? Or have you recognized me? You know, I can't just go around giving people free sessions?" She teased, raising a hand to play idly with the delicate silver necklace that hung below her collarbone.

"Mm, yeah I can see that. But I'd be uncomfortable about it." He replied, his eyes transfixed briefly to the calculated route then towards her. "You know your way around a fight? Might have to protect me if we get mugged on that date then." He chuckled. Past Sentinel Hill's highway, Azrael drove through Little Dublin and into K-Town, past through the town.
It wasn't until she responded to him asking her out that he realized she was perceiving past his facade. He chuckled in response to her, "Damn, my master plan, foiled! Well..." He grimaced, "I suppose I have my share of demons. But, no, I'm not asking you for a free session." His eyes looked towards her, glancing down at where her fingers were touching, "I just want to have a cup of coffee, get to know you better." He turned his head back on the road.
"But you did get one thing right though, I do know about you." His grin widened slightly, "World famous psychologist that treats superheros and supervillains, pioneer of the mental health world... and knows very little about car engines." He teased.
As they arrived at the intended destination, Azrael spoke once again. "All pretenses aside," this time however, he did not hide his accent, she already knew it was fake, he could tell just by her reaction. "There's a coffee shop in Oldtown that serves the best french press coffee on Saturdays, I'd love it if you were to join me. I mean, unless you're not a hipster, I don't think they allow conformists to join."
He passed his phone over to her, "I'll limit my text messages to about 60 per day, don't worry."

She watched the road as he drove, her inner anxiety relaxing slowly. She had everything under control, and already she knew what her plans were going to be later in the day. She would just stay at the office, take a nap on one of the couches, have her temp order her coffee and get her on the phone with someone who could set her up with a rental, then home. Problem solved...well almost solved, mostly, she had a plan at least. As for the gentleman beside her she was uncertain. He was a smooth talker, and as he dropped the fake accent she grinned a bit pleased though still wary. She was observant, as it was also a part of her job, and she didn't like it when she was lied to. However, she supposed he had his reasons. At the moment she wasn't in the place to judge, but simply be cautious. One didn't work with the patients that she did without being aware of the dangers. She gave him a glance, her eyes noticing how his fell to her necklace and her grin did lift further. His teases did embarrass her a little, but she could laugh at herself for being ignorant about something. "Hey, we can't be good at everything." She replied, looking over to her office building as they arrived and came to a stop. "Unfortunately I think I'm to plain to be accepted as a hipster." Evelyn turned her attention to him, looking the man over curious what his reason was to offer her out on a date, why he had put up a front before. It had been so mild it seemed silly. "Why is it you want to get to know me?" She wasn't conceited enough to think it was because of the way she looked. Sure she felt her personality wasn't that dreadfully dull, but clearly she was lacking in appeal to most because her love life since college was literally as dry as the Sahara. "It can't be for my impressive mechanic know how."Azrael

"I see, well, it was nice meeting you regardless Evelyn." Azrael smiled. She asked one last remark towards him, something which he felt was inherently there. "Because I like you seems a little bit of a cop-out answer, doesn't it?" Azrael replied, but he didn't have to think too much into it.
"Well, I don't know much about you. All I know is that you were in trouble, you seem polite, and you're attractive to me. I think that you like my company, and I think I would like yours."
Azrael focused his attention mainly on her eyes, perhaps he had given the impression he had put up the front because he wanted to impress people. It was not the case, he would not be wearing baggy clothes or driving a ruin of a car if it was the case, he was simply there to remain incognito.
But since the psychologist had already deduced he was not who he said he was, he would rather have her trust what was currently being given. "So I wanted to get to know you better." As the car parked directly underneath her office building, Azrael took a peek at the large building's worth of business complexes. "Here we are, I'm guessing this is where you work."
"Do you find that strange or unnatural? For someone to take an interest in you?" Azrael asked, as he opened the door for her. "Well... at any rate, if I ever need counselling services I'll know who to talk to."

Well, she did find it a bit odd actually. She had originally thought her impression she'd made on him wasn't the best. Considering how inept she was about the mechanics of her own car, and her own paranoia that she must have looked like a complete narcissist dressed in her work clothes in K-town. God, and here she was perhaps sounding even worse just because he asked her a relatively harmless question. This was probably why she never got any dates. Already she was frowning, not at him but at herself as she went over everything she said and how it could have been perceived, and why on Earth he might have thought her to be likable when she'd must have come off as a complete air head. For the doctor, she didn't entirely get the memo that not everyone was intellectual competition. She watched as he got out of the car, walked over to her side to open her door for her, a gesture she didn't ask for but really it was quite sweet. Would one night out kill her? Of course she'd have to comb through her entire schedule for the week, which was painstaking enough just to squeeze a lunch into, or a brief blip of time to grab a coffee, but she was totally ruining any semblance of having a normal life outside of work. "Coffee sounds nice." She answered, despite him not asking again. Tucking strands of hair behind her right ear she looked him in the eyes. "I don't mean to come off as a total jerk, but if the offer still stands I wouldn't mind." Speaking of meetings however, she felt a more pressing urgency to start working on said changes. Evelyn took his phone, and despite her rule to not give out personal information to just anyone, she figured giving him her work cell - pretty much the only important number to her - it wouldn't be crushing her personal laws. "I do apologize again for causing you such trouble. Feel free to call me if you need anything." After putting in her information, with a jokingly formal contact name of Dr. Inoue, she flashed him a gentle smile and hoped she hadn't ruined any further impressions he might have of her with tease. "You promised to keep your texts to a minimum. Maybe I'll pencil you in for that free session after coffee." Stepping out of his car, she adjusted her back, gave him one last glance and shut it politely before pulling her keys out to get into her office building. Azrael

It seemed that it took a moment's notice, but Evelyn had decided to accept the invitation. Pleasantly surprised, Azrael subconsciously smiled, though she didn't need to assume she was acting a jerk. It was a natural reflex, to doubt, and it took much more to truly offend the meta-human than that. "That's great with me Ev. Looking forward to it."
He typed his number into Evelyn's cell, and already he realized why she might have been hesitant in the acceptance of such a date. There was an endless list of messages and missed phone calls that blotted the screen of her work phone. He typed his american cell phone number, called it, received the phone number and handed it back to the psychologist. "Under sixty messages? You drive a hard bargain darling. You sure I won't be a crazier person than you might have thought originally?" He chuckled.
Sliding his phone back into his oversized jean pockets, he looked at Evelyn walk into her office. He shifted his weight from the car, "Hey, Doc--" He called, and as soon as she tilted her head back to face him, he pecked her on the lips, holding her fore arm so that she'd not fall back. He pulled back, "Good luck on the rest of your day." Then headed back to his crappy car.
