He's a kid with dreams, the ambition to make them come true and a big heart. Yeah he's basically a boy scout. Helping people up with their books, giving them directions, the same ol' shtick. But hey it's not like it's a bad thing to be a helpful, kind person, is it? Even if it's a tad overdone. However he is a self-reliant little bugger, given his mother always being rather busy. [break][break] And by self-reliant, I mean that Brandon is a person who would insist on treating his best friend to a night out at the bar, even if it would take a chunk out of his own paycheck. Or a person who would refuse a free meal. Brandon hates to impose, and wants to prove he can survive on his own. [break][break] This, as a result, as led to Brandon developing a case of Hedgehog's Dilemma, a case of wanting social bonds to cherish, but fearing that you'll only end up hurting people if you do get close to them. Brandon WANTS to be able to rely on people, he wants to be able to have bonds with friends, lovers and all that wonderful jazz, but his need to prove himself and this social paradox prevents him from socially interacting with people properly. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details I guess every hero needs their origin story, so let's go back to the beginning. Brandon Ackerman, AKA Void, was not always a void walker. No, when he was born, he was born very much human. He was born to Charlie and Rose Ackerman, both loving and supporting parents. Honestly, on offset, Brandon's life was damn near storybook. At least it would be if not for a few details. [break][break] Well...aside from his mother. You see, Mrs. Ackerman was a physics professor, and quite an ambitious person in her field of work. Rose wanted to know how the universe worked, and perhaps most importantly, what happens when everything is reset to zero? This answer was the main query of her research. Was it a result of nihilism, a legitimate scientific query? Well, regardless of the reason, Brandon didn't see much of his mother growing up. His father, according to his mother, passed away in an accident, which she failed to specify. [break][break] So with his mother busy, Brandon was left to raise himself basically. She provided for him, yes, but for the most part he developed his own morals, his own beliefs, his own everything really, without the aid of a mother. Yes it was a case of neglect, but Brandon never really thought of it like that...until middle school. Then he began feeling the loneliness real hard. [break][break] Finally, during his last days of high school, Rose had called Brandon in, for a little experiment. Now this was a change, mom rarely needed him for anything, save a cup of coffee or something. Over the years, Rose had developed a way for the user to see into the Great Beyond, the Void. With this, Rose believed she'd have the necessary knowledge needed to continue her research into the mechanics of the universe. [break][break] Not that Brandon's seventeen year old mind had any idea what in the hell that meant, his mom could go on lengthy tangents. All he had to do was stand in the big machine and watch the light show. Simple enough he guessed. And so he stepped right on in. [break][break] A few keystrokes and some noises later, the machine had activated, and Brandon found himself...floating, for lack of a better word. Floating among the stars. It was honestly rather peaceful, like he could just take a nap. Suddenly, the machine began rattling, shaking, tumbling, like it was about to explode! Brandon banged on the door, as if believing it would break open somehow. [break][break] It was a freak power outage that had caused the machine to begin acting this way. Not even Rose could stop it, and watched as the machine utterly exploded. She was at a loss for words. Did she seriously use her own son...as a guinea pig? She searched for the wreckage, trying to find her son, but found nothing. No remains, no pieces of clothing, literally nothing. He had vanished from reality itself. [break][break] The explosion, as it turned out, had sent Brandon tumbling through a...crack, for lack of a better word, through dimensions, the result turning him into something....something...well he couldn't really decide if he was more or less human, but he knew something was wrong. Eventually, (after a few days he estimated, you can't really tell the passage of time in pure darkness) he had emerged into a whole new world. [break][break] How will the Voidwalker fit into this new world? Will he emerge a bright champion, find a way home, or will he become this world's worse enemy? All of this depends on him. [break][break] And so, his journey begins. [PTab=IV.] [attr="class","appcat"]powers [attr="class","apptext"] [/PTab={tab-background-color:#1f4654;height: 420px; background-color: #1c1d1e; padding: 5px;text-align:justify;][/PTabbedContent={width: 310px;tab-background-color:#1c1d1e;border-color:#1c1d1e;tabgap:1}][newclass=.appcat]background-color:#111;text-align:center;font-family:open sans condensed;text-transform:uppercase;font-weight:900;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass][newclass=.apptext]height:390px; margin: 15px 5px 0px 5px; padding: 0px 15px; overflow: auto;[/newclass][newclass=.subcat]color:#e5e5e5;font-family: open sans condensed; margin: 15px 0px 5px -10px;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass][newclass=.subcat1]color:#e5e5e5;text-transform:uppercase;font-family: open sans condensed; margin: 0px 0px 5px -10px;[/newclass][attr="class","subcat1"] The Void After falling through the cracks between dimensions, Brandon has gained a power unattainable by most. That being the power of the Void. It's...rather tricky to describe, but let's try to describe it anyway. There are many ways to describe people with the powers of the Void, but omnipresent is not one of them. With that said, caution is required when approaching him. It's theorized that every Void user is unique in their creation and usage of the Void, but with only one subject at present who can use it, it's just that, a theory. [break][break] But now to Brandon, he can use the Void for a number of things,(a jack of all trades but a master of none really) but keep in mind the inexperience that he suffers from. With training, he could prove to be a dangerous combatant. [attr="class","subcat"]Translocation Just another fancy way of saying Blink, or teleportation. Within 50ft of his field of vision, Brandon can use the Void to teleport to any spot he wishes. There's a 30 second cooldown period however, and like I said, it's limited to his field of vision. Blinding him completely would render the power worthless. On top of that, Brandon CANNOT teleport through solid walls, like concrete or wood. [attr="class","subcat"]Counter Shield Getting hurt sucksssss. Good thing Brandon can use the Void to create a shield that can parry attacks for him, no sword required! In short, Brandon summons a shield in front of him that can absorb one melee attack and three projectile attacks, allowing him to fire the energy right back as Void Balls. That said, the shield can only be summoned in front his Brandon, not his back, his left, his right, just the front. Timing is needed to make the most out of this ability. [attr="class","subcat"]Ageless This is more minor, but Brandon's body has ceased aging as a result of becoming one with the Void. As one would expect, this means he isn't dying of old age. HOWEVER, do not mistake this for immortality, he can VERY much die if you wanted to kill him. [attr="class","subcat"]Flight Just as it sounds, Brandon can use the Void to enable a kind of flight mode, albeit unrefined compared to other heroes who can fly. Brandon can't speed up or slow down in this form, so it's rather useless for chases. With that said it's still a decent way to get around and there's no time limit to the thing. It's really meant for leisurely flights, something that's kind of a rarity for Brandon's current predicament. [attr="class","subcat"]Weapon Materialization Ever heard of the phrase equivalent exchange? Well it states: "In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed." The power of the Void negates this little rule of matter with the power of weapon materialization. In short, if Brandon can think of a weapon, like a sword, he can make it materialize into reality from nothing at all. [break][break] Sounds cool right? It's a basic power for all Void-walkers but everyone starts out limited. So for now, Brandon can only create weapons at around his size. He can't create rocket launchers, nukes, giant boomsticks the size of a tree (Eat yer heart out Ash), nor can he recreate weapons from vehicles, like mounted turrets on a car. The logic being that it's not a pure weapon on it's own, it's attached to something. [break][break] Also there's a limit to HOW many weapons Brandon can bring into reality at once. Three at once. And once he hits that cap, he has to wait three hours before he can start creating weapons again. |
