”Think you can come here and snitch us out, eh?!”
River fucked up.
”L-look, man, it’s not--it’s not what it looks like, I just--”
Somewhere between the thick fingers lifting him clear off the ground and the brick wall rattling his skull, he realized the true degree of how hard he fucked up. He was stuck in a gross alleyway in an unknown town with five guys crowded around him in the dead of night. The kid that arranged the deal set him up. He racked his brain for anything else that would’ve given his identity away. Whatever it was, his carelessness landed him way over his head in the most dangerous neighborhood east of the Mississippi.
”It’s pretty clear to us what’s going on here, pig.” The gangbanger spat a fat one in River’s face. He turned away, leaving globs to drip down his cheek and settle in the bristles of his beard. The quick reaction seemed to irritate him even more, and River felt his head slam against the brickwork for the second time that night. The smell of blood, even if it was his own, assaulted his senses. His vision swam. He would’ve felt dizzy if he wasn’t being held upright.
”I’m just… here for some hush,” he manages, ”I don’t know what y’all are talking about, shit’s all I need, I-I’ll pay double if you want!”
One of the men, bearing a thick backpack that had to hold the cure he sought, knelt and went through the goods they’d pulled off of River earlier. His personal sidearm, his cracked iPhone, and his worn leather wallet. ”Bro, there ain’t shit in this thing,” he whined, going through the thin wallet, ”Maybe a hundred. Not enough to buy in the first pla--oh, damn!”
The waxing gibbous moon’s light caught the metal of his badge, and River quietly cursed. Of course. He forgot to take it out before talking to the poor kid. The man holding him up dropped him to the concrete. River instinctively reached for his firearm; one foot stomped on his outreached hand, and another kicked him in the small of his back. His yelp of pain was rewarded with another sharp kick, this one to the bleeding wound slowly matting his hair to his head.
Somebody said something, a threat about being a warning to other pigs, but River didn’t quite register it. Just like they didn’t register the cop’s wide brown eyes shifting to a frantic gold, as wild as the fangs protruding from his lips. He’d never been dumb enough to be outnumbered like this before, and now, he was paying for it.
southpaw feel free to control the npcs, they’re just lowly gangbangers caught up in dealing hush

"Thanks bro," he murmurs through a mouthful of hotdog, rummaging around his trouser pocket for the change he had reserved just for this; the night's reward. Niki was proud of himself for tonight, as banged up and bleeding as he was. Thwart a group of gangers trying to get protection money out of an elderly lady? Check. Get beaten by her handbag when she thinks he's one of them? Also check. Stop a convenience store robbery? He was on a roll.
"Dude, can I spring extra for onions? Swear it's not an excuse 'cause I can't be fucked to sort my dough." The hand that holds out the dollar bills are bloody, some of the red transferred onto the notes. It doesn't stop the cart guy taking them and adding a couple of tongs full of fried onions to the top of Niki's hotdog, though. Beggars can't be choosers.
"You're one of them vigilante types, yeah?"
His cut lips turn into a smile, the mask pushed up to rest on the bridge of his nose slipping down a little. "Fuck yeah."
"Some tourist came through here. Family followed him into the alley over there, looked like a setup."
Niki's mouth immediately forms a snarl, stuffing the entirety of the hotdog in his mouth. Looked like the night's work wasn't quite over. "Fftay hoor, shamks." With the flash of a (food-filled) smile, the mask is pulled back over his mouth. Showtime.
The amount of approaches he could take to this were mind-numbing; he had the surprise advantage. Climb the fire escapes and ambush from above? Lure them out and pick them off one by one? Eh. His walk picks up into a run, and he charges into the alley, taking a single moment to identify victim from attacker. It wasn't hard, the guy looked pretty out of place, and was the only one beaten, but he could only hope he got out of the way before he did something stupid. Niki was good at stupid.
Before the gangers could even react, Niki grabbed the closest by the neck and swung himself forward, pulling them to the ground and drop-kicking another in the face. He liked to make an entrance.

River hadn’t been roughed up this badly in years. His lungs burned with the effort of breathing after a good kick cracked one of his ribs. It was all because he was chasing some rumored super drug that he ended up like this. He was so excited at the prospect of finally getting rid of all this that made a careless mistake. The simple error and his helplessness on the ground made his blood boil. The cop’s face twisted, teeth bared in a primal display of rage and frustration.
He rolled in an attempt to get away. Another strike, this one right to his face, cleanly breaking his nose and smacking his head against the brickwork of the wall. River’s vision blurred and his ears rang while the adrenaline poured through his system. Everything became muffled as if he was underwater. He couldn’t hear the kid with the backpack cry out ”Oh, shit,” before a foot sent him careening into trashcans. He saw blurs of motion as all but one of the others made a break for it. One thing was clear in the subdued environment, and that was the moonlight.
The transformation was fast. Teeth sharper than knives sprang from his maw, turning a human cry of pain into a bestial snarl throughout. One moment, he rose like a man possessed, and the next, bones snapped and shattered with the expanding form. A bare arm thick with muscle grew heavy fur as it slammed against the closest unfortunate soul. By the time the boy hit the opposite wall, the half-man that struck him was a full monstrosity.
Eight feet of dirty fur didn’t waste a moment. The werewolf leaped at the newcomer, as if he knew exactly where the guy was, and attempted to pin him to the bloodied ground. Spittle flew from his jaws as he snapped at the fighter with every intent to tear out his throat. Supernatural adrenaline had flooded his system. River was as much of a victim of it as his savior was, though now, it wasn’t even a concern. The werewolf’s only concern was taking out the threat. All rational human thought was absent.

He was beauty, he was grace, he was punching thugs in the face.
After slamming the head under his arm into the concrete floor, Niki sprang to his feet, arms immediately into boxer stance. The fight was easy; the entrance spooked the enforcers - or wannabe thugs - into mistake after mistake, allowing his superior reflexes and fists bring them down one by one. Even when coming at him all at once, they were outmatched; one caught fist being used to carry the momentum into another man, the sputtered expletives making a grin form under the mask. A jab to the side of the head flowed into a duck and swerve, hands planted on the floor to swing his leg around and connect shin to the side of a knee. Footsteps thundered behind him, and Niki sprang himself upwards, delivering an axe kick to the the underside of their jaw. Who knew MMA would pay off for a career boxer?
"Now... you can all fuck the fuck off, or I really start splitting heads, yeah?" He didn't even get a chance to finish his line before they all started dragging their sorry bodies off, the haste they carried themselves with something akin to desperation. Heh, good thing they knew how terrifying he was.
With a single wipe of his bloodied fighting gloves on a wall, Niki swung around, trying to not look too triumphant in stance. "Hey, man, you okay? They w--" The words immediately died in his throat. He didn't know what he was watching. He definitely did not like what he was watching. His entire body froze as the gaze fell upon him, the only thing he could bring himself to move being his mouth.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" In the time of his single scream, the thing leapt at him, threw him to the ground, opened that mouth... he couldn't die. He could not die. Instinct kicked in and snapped his hands up to hold the beast thing back, hands firmly gripping the muzzle and the chin, using all of his strength to keep the teeth away, away from his face, away from his screaming, petrified face, legs kicking widly. Nicolas Hernandez was going to die

Snapping, snarling jaws didn’t even halt when steadfast hands kept them at bay. The wolf pushed against the strongman, paws pressed against his shoulders for leverage. Disgusting slobber dribbled from his maw and landed with a splat on the other’s bare chest. The wolf was so close, the fighter would be able to smell his rancid breath, like the stench of a rotting carcass let in the sun, his breath so hot it rolled out of his nostrils in steam against the night air.
The wolf remained caught in the power struggle for a while, desperate to sink his teeth into flesh, until a lucky kick caught him in the groin. He yelped in pain and withdrew to arch his back and curl slightly, as if that would alleviate the pain, but all it did was make his head swim. Nobody had hurt him like that before. He wasn’t dealing with the average prey here.
In retaliation, before the metahuman could get the upper hand, the werewolf brought his claws down on the man’s chest. He swiped wildly, with the technique of a wild animal, easily blocked or parried but with enough power to do serious damage if anything got through. All the while, he couldn’t get rid of the sickening feeling in his stomach that blurred his vision. Some part of him, the bit that was still human, remembered that transformations due to stress weakened him fast; the rest took out its frustration at the situation on the man beneath him.
