To this day, he hasn't forgiven his parents for the terrible pun in his name, among other things. [break][break] All things considered, he had a pretty good childhood. His mom loved him almost as much as dad, but not quite as much as the men that came through after he passed away. But, hey, at least his brothers loved him. They taught him all the cool stuff dad taught them. How to get around town, the safe ways home, how to shoot a gun, roll a joint. All pretty cool stuff to a prepubescent kid. [break][break] More than anything, he wanted to impress them. He did a good job, getting in fights all over middle school, stealing things, talking back to his mom. His brothers thought that was so cool, they brought River to one of their parties. The police broke it up after gunshots broke out in the area. His brothers taught him how to run from the police that day. [break][break] Their knowledge failed them a few years later, during a drug deal gone wrong. While his brothers were detained for assault with a deadly weapon, the police saw promise in sixteen year old River, and struck a deal: if River stayed out of trouble, they'd take care of him. At first, he thought that was dumb, but after they delivered his only birthday present that year, he turned a new leaf. [break][break] Life was alright from there. Graduated in the bottom fifty percent of his class, but he still graduated. He moved out the moment he got a job. He saw his brothers throughout their sentence, even proudly announced his acceptance into the police academy, til they decided they didn't want a dirty cop talking to them and denied his visitation. [break][break] That was okay, though. He found a less violent family at his first police station, far away from the gang violence that plagued his past at home, across the border in Lafayette, Louisiana. Life actually went well after that, with his new family. He kept the peace in the sleepy town, and helped the misunderstood and victims of circumstance. [break][break] In the spring of 2016, things actually got weirder. Officer Hudson was helping state officers track down a dangerous criminal that wandered too close to the bog. Locals knew better than to venture through there. [break][break] Good thing River wasn't a local. [break][break] That night, he was assaulted by something he later learned the locals called a "rougarou", a bastardization of the French term for werewolf. It was a curse that drove people mad on the full moon, and, naturally, transferred to the rougarou's killer. He tries not to remember that night. [break][break] Since then, he has endured several full moon transformations, each slightly less excruciating than the last. Locals still speak of a monster in the area, but criminals speak of thinning ranks. Even police have taken note of vicious animal attacks in the area sending offenders to the hospital. Officer Hudson just hopes nobody notices he doesn't pick up the night shift these days. He can consciously shift, but doesn’t like to, since it still involves bones breaking and rehealing to accommodate his form. He retains limited conscious thought in this form; he can distinguish friend from foe in times of peace, but while under stress, adrenaline and instinct rule. While a werewolf, he has access to the following advantages:
[attr="class","subcat"]Slow Regeneration River has limited regenerative abilities as a human. Scrapes and bruises regenerate within 30mins, cuts requiring stitches within hours, and broken bones fully heal within two days. As in werewolf form, ballistic wounds do not heal until all shrapnel is extracted. [attr="class","subcat"]Good Shape In human form, River is in excellent physical condition. He can run, jump, swim, etc as much as he needs to in order to get the job done. This is due to his training as a policeman. He also is a fairly good shot with a firearm. [attr="class","subcat"]Police Connections He’s got connections. As a police officer, River has access to a full arsenal of weaponry, as long as he fills out the right paperwork, and he knows who to go to for the right information. [attr="class","subcat"]Animal Aversion Animals are said to be in tune with the supernatural--they must be, if they hate him this much. Cats scratch, dogs bite, horses spook, and even zoo animals screech at his presence since inheriting the rougarou spirit. [attr="class","subcat"]Silver Weakness Anything made out of silver that comes in contact with his skin instantly burns. Prolonged exposure can create severe burns that expose bone. If River were to ingest more than trace amounts of silver, he would become violently ill and possibly die. |
