Neither has any of its human forms. But being a sixteen-year-old human named Jack brings with it unwanted circumstances. While innately peaceful and incredibly patient, Jack is still subject to occasional temper tantrums and general angsting over trivial matters. This body is still a teen, after all. [break][break] He doesn't really give a damn about the world and its happenings -- yet. Four years isn't enough for it to remember its responsibility of observing the world, after all. Right now, Jack's more concerned with stuff like studying, and if he'd make it into college, for example. Or staying out of trouble, because Arkham's not exactly a safe haven. [break][break] Occasionally, Jack feels like something big is in store for him, and that he has something really important to do. Whether he acts on that is a different question altogether -- as a teenager, he kind of gets easily distracted. Video games? Hell yeah, sign him up. [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details 'All things began in order, so shall they end, and so shall they begin again.' [break][break] Once upon a time, there was nothing. And then a little spark of the universe happened, and who knew what sprouted next -- but there was eventually Hell and Heaven and the start of new worlds, and somewhere a sapling sprouted. Coiled around the feet of Eternity, the tree grew until it died. From its roots rose twin living beings that acted as if they were one: a self-eating, circular being, the representation of time, and the embodiment of Eternity. [break][break] Around the void left behind by the tree the circular being lived. Today the void is a place they call Limbo. Cursed to see the universe to its despairing future (or hopeful past), it waited and observed where it was. [break][break] As the worlds shifted in accordance with the laws of the universe, so did the world it held in its grasp. It grew, and grew, until it almost reached the shining, burning stars; and then it started to wither and wilt, until it was consumed by the remaining one -- along with the world in its grasp. With its world destroyed, it left for a new one, and through its various reincarnations, became preserved as a symbol, deity, and in many more forms it does not care to remember. [break][break] Amongst these living beings called Man it lived, in states of beast and human alike. At one point, it was the World Turtle, shouldering the weight of the world on its back and occasionally shaking things up. Nowadays, it mostly adopts human forms, which allows it to live and observe the world at its own leisurely pace. [break] [break] Jack is a sixteen-year-old student that spends most of his time cooped up in his room if he isn't out with friends. Adopted at the age of twelve by a member of the Arkham mafia, Jack hasn't had the easiest of lives (literally), but he's pretty well-cared for, all things considered. [break][break] Minor wounds seal almost as quickly as they are inflicted, but major wounds take a couple of minutes or so. Limbs and internal organs would probably take hours or days. (Yes, it still feels pain. Jack is only human.) [break][break] Life-threatening injuries are either aggravated by its body so as to push itself to death and reincarnation, but it is also possible for Jack to opt to heal itself over a long, long period of time. A year or so, probably. It would most likely be more economically, time-wise, to opt to reincarnate into a new human, but relationships and social influence don't actually carry over from person to person. [break][break] Over time, it will also remember its past lives' experiences -- this includes their previously-gained abilities, skills, and learnt languages. That is, if it is physically exposed to similar situations, or as it lives its life out. [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]form-changer The Ouroboros's natural form is a large serpent, either of the sea, sky, or air. Being a world serpent that can potentially level cities and continents if it wanted to is kinda tough though. Over the years, it learnt how to properly take the form of humans, and sustain partial transformations to tap into its full potential. It still needs some practice, though; in this lifetime's case, it's weird glowing stripes that appear depending on the intensity of its activated powers. Not very subtle. [break][break] When partially transformed, Jack's defense, stamina, and endurance dramatically increases. Offensively, he is as harmful as he was before. He's just way harder to take down. [break][break] Reverting to its natural form heals it from all sustained damage and dramatically increases its fighting prowess (think going out with a big bang), but going back to human form is only achievable through death and reincarnation. Reincarnating itself into a new human form takes quite some time, as opposed to other beings. Its reincarnated form's age depends on the amount of time spent in the reincarnation process. [break][break] [attr="class","subcat"]reactive adaptation By utilizing its partial transformations, the Ouroboros's body adapts and produces some sort of defense against its volatile environment. As soon as it shifts back into its fully-human form, it loses all adaptations gained while in partial transformation. [break][break] It trends towards defensive adaptations. For example, it is unlikely to develop the ability to fire razor-sharp scales, and is instead more likely to develop an adamantoise-ish exoskeleton. The exception is during rare situations where offense is the only viable defense. |
