She subsists on a healthy diet of oatmeal and compressed rage that never goes away. It probably has something to do with the fact that she spends her nights pursuing child kidnappers, traffickers, and anyone else who would harm those who fly under the radar. As you can see, the mental health is strong in this one. [break][break] Despite the fact that Sophia is out there doing one of the most thankless jobs in the world (in fact, she refuses thanks any chance she gets), she is constantly driven towards risk management. She seldom makes hasty decisions out of impatience or fear. Threats and insults bounce right off of her. Sophia is absolutely singleminded when she has a goal in mind, which often serves as both a boon and a bane. [break][break] She doesn't have much of an ideological commitment to peace or human life. If she kills someone who tries to strike her, then that's fine. If the gang dynamics on the street destabilize because she defeated a kingpin, then that's regrettable but necessary. She's on the streets because she remembers what it felt like to be scared, and now she knows what it feels like to be angry. Sophia is polite enough in company, but she actually values convention very little. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Sophia spent her childhood in Sentinel Hill with a single workaholic father who never arrived home before 1am. She had food to eat and a roof over her head. Except, well. Except when she didn't anymore. [break][break]Her father had too much stubborn pride when his grocery business was losing money, and he hid his failures by borrowing from the wrong people. In return, Sophia was picked up from second grade by the wrong people. [break][break] She still remembers the shape of the bruises. The grit of the asphalt against her skin. The smell of her captor's cigar breath when he explained to a cohort that her father had killed himself. She lost her name after that. Sophia was taken all the way to Arkham. She is christened the Handmaiden. [break][break] (It sounds prettier than what they did to her.) [break][break] The Handmaiden was passed around Arkham as her various keepers either died in violent activities or wallowed in debt. Her third buyer ran an illegal fighting ring. She observed the fights for years, except for the six months that the organizer went out of town for eight months. Extenuating circumstances pushed her into the ring when she was thirteen. [break][break] Win or lose, she fought for as long as the old man was on his extended business trip. By the time that he had returned, the Handmaiden had accrued a reputation that was beyond her own control. He had been angry. Girls weren't supposed to fight, especially one who was decorative. [break][break] "I want to wager for my freedom." As if that was ever hers to bet. As if it was ever something to be given away. As if she was prepared to handle the consequences of losing. Like father, like daughter. [break][break] She couldn't have known, but the Handmaiden's powers manifested in time. A fight is easy to win when the enemy cannot land a hit. All it took was a desire to not be hit. She stiffened her resolve. Several people were sent to the hospital that night. Not her. At age eighteen, he shed the name of Handmaiden and became a woman of her own choosing. [break][break] Physis is a woman who appears in a black motorcycle helmet and bare-knuckled gloves. Her appearances can be linked to missing persons reports, especially the ones that pertain to children. She is known to use lethal force against particularly monstrous crimminals, but the law does not actively pursue her for as long as most of her activities remain in Arkham. More specifically: her own. Also, she cannot use her abilities partially - it's either restructuring her entire body or nothing. She can phase through solid objects. She can also apply the same properties to objects that she associates with part of her being, such as her clothes, tools, and weapons. Her body tends to disrupt electrical signals when she passes through them, though she cannot re-materialize in solids. [attr="class","subcat"]enhanced durability She can increase the density of her body to the point that it acts as body armor. It has obvious defensive applications, but Sophia will also use this ability to increase damage output in her fists. She does not decrease in size, so it is an obvious mass and weight increase as well. [attr="class","subcat"]cold manipulation Sophia's thermal ability is limited by physical contact. She slows molecular movement to cause frostbite in grappled enemies. Can also be applied to melee weaponry for some nasty internal frostbite. [break][break] Physis can now manifest an entire 'polar field' around her body. The field is limited to a five meter radius and radiates cold. Physis can also choose to freeze enemies and objects within it. She can use it to slow enemies that enter the field. With concentration on specific targets, she can freeze organic bodies. Yes I am determined to turn her into Froslass gijinka. [attr="class","subcat"]enhanced unarmed combat She's been beating up the bad guys for almost ten years now, and she still goes to the gym. Sophia can take quite a lot of punishment after years of losing to grown men who weighed more than she did. |
