[break][break] Aramaeus is, first and foremost, a man of unparalleled will. It is his singularly most defining strength, and the only reason that he survived the ordeal that took his team from him, with his mind intact. Where before he had been an open and trusting man, quick to smile and with his heart on his sleeve, he has since been hardened by his experiences. He rarely divulges anything regarding his inner workings or his past, which has rendered him something of an enigma to those that work with him. A smile is a thing rarely seen to grace his lips in the present, and even then it is a small, subdued thing compared to the unrestrained joy the man used to exhibit in his heroing days. A very cool and collected individual, Aramaeus is unflappable even amidst the chaos and fire of combat, displaying a chilling calm that has a tendency to unnverve those that witness it. This isn't to say that the man is now without emotion, of course, as he is quite capable of experiencing the full spectrum, from joy to sorrow and everything in between. He is merely much more in control, keeping them well hidden and subdued, to better focus on the mission. [break][break] He conducts himself much in the manner of a modern knight, albeit a darker one than what most would imagine. He is honourable, but not beyond reason, and while he values the lives of the innocent, he will put the lives of those loyal to him above almost anything, time and time again. He is aware that this is selfish of him, but he is far past the point of caring, and if pushed will do whatever it takes not to lose his people again. [break][break] He aspires to acquire those loyal to him, to forge them into a cadre of magitech warriors to serve him and fight by his side and, though he would not easily admit it, to help fill the aching void left by the death of his old team. With these men and women at his side, he aims to carve out a kingdom for himself to rule, where those who require succour and protection are welcome, as well as those willing to serve him and help bring his vision to fruition. What drives him most of all, however, is his hunger for vengeance against the Initiative and the ones responsible for the stripping of his powers and the loss of his loved ones. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Aramaeus was born on a very different Earth in an alternate universe, one where magic is far more commonplace that it is now. He was the son of two powerful mage-knights, and they ensured that he grew up to be a fine young man, a shining example of the warrior ideal. He was courageous, loyal and open-hearted, and beloved by the people. Such popularity, however, does tend to give rise to envy and hate, and in this particular instance they took the form of the man who would become known as Orrivard, Magekiller. They fought dozens of times in fantastic displays of arcane might, with Aramaeus emerging the victor time and time again. Until, that is, in one of their battles Orrivard tore open the veil between dimensions, and sent the both of them tumbling through to the Earth that the Initiative called home. Though cut off from his home and his loved ones, Aramaeus soon found that he did not have to be lonely; He fought in the invasion of 2008, and joined the Initiative, forming fast friendships with a handful of heroes in particular that would come to be like family to him. They enjoyed great success and popularity together, even combating Orrivard upon a number of occasions. It all went south, however, when Orrivard managed to track them down to their base away from the Initiative and, utilising some new power he had acquired, slaughtered Aramaeus' new family in front of him, laughing at the man's raw agony. Orrivard's crowning achievement, and ultimate victory, came in the form of somehow ripping Aramaeus' abilities from him almost entirely, leaving him with only a broken vestige of his former might. He left him battered and broken, but alive. [break][break] The Initiative took Aramaeus in and attempted to rehabilitate him, but when his demands to see Orrivard brought to justice were met with uncomfortable silence, he grew suspicious. Eventually, he managed to wrest the truth free from an attendant; The Initiative, or some shadowy, illicit members of it, at least, had forged a deal with Orrivard. He would help them with their magic and show him how he had managed to overcome such a formidable team of heroes with such ease, and in return they would grant him amnesty and his cooperation. Enraged, Aramaeus escaped and, after recovering the remains of his team, went into hiding, vanishing without a trace. [break][break] That was years ago. Now, he has returned under the guise of The Dread Knight, a terrifying figure clad in armour forged with a combination of magic and technology, and it is very clear that he is not the hero that he once was. In essence, he naturally generates an enormous amount of magical energy, as does everyone from his Earth. Unfortunately, he is now unable to form even the most simple of spells and must rely on his magitech to tap into this natural wellspring of power. As such, he does not require external power sources for his magitech equipment, given that he powers it himself. [attr="class","subcat"]Magitech Engineering Less of a power and more of a developed ability, Aramaeus has learned to create a unique technology that blends magic with science for virtually limitless possibilities- So long as he is able to make it. As of now, he is capable of creating suits of magitech armour as well as a variety of weapons and portable magitech generators to power them for the use of others, but he have much room for improvement. [attr="class","subcat"]Armour of Dread This is the trademark suit of powered, black magitech armour that Aramaeus wears when he is The Dread Knight. A magnificent piece of magitechnology, the suit is designed with the Dread Knight's preference for close combat in mind.
