As such, her duty to justice defines her; she is compassionate, but steadfast, gentle, but firm. She is incredibly courteous at all times, and could come across as stuck-up or a killjoy to some; it does not help that she rarely shows her emotions, keeping a tight lid on them, only ever letting them subtly affect her face. She is very disciplined, and expects the same discipline from others, although she has learned not many share her intensity. [break][break] When dealing with people who have committed crimes, she is tolerant, often asking the aforementioned criminal to surrender even when the offender is attacking, talking as she fights. She is confused by the idea that some heroes do not register under the Initiative. She is unfailingly obedient to authorities--- what will happen, when her personal code of justice contradicts their orders, remains to be seen. [break][break] Beyond the hero job, Julia is still quite the sheltered child. She is oblivious to flirtations and jokes and various nuances of modern society, often interpreting things in a much too literal sense. She is ignorant, as well, of most advanced technology; she has not stopped being surprised by what civilization has to offer since she moved in into the Initiative compound. This is a weakness that she recognizes and she strives to learn more of all these new things. It does not help that she is blind, and often ends up wondering what everything looks like. [break][break] Her idea of fun is sparring and exploring places. She is respectful of the various aliens once known as gods, specially so if they were one of those who created her office, but does not shy from disagreeing with them. She is innocent and naive; pure and awkward. She might be believing in an ideal that the world has left behind. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Julia does not remember parents, or a family. She remembers growing up in a hidden village somewhere in Italy, where she was taught and trained by elders who referred to her as the heir. As she grew, she learned just what they meant: she was to be the next Justitia--- a legendary warrior dating back to the times of the Greeks and the Romans, empowered by gods to enforce justice, even if it meant to defy gods, even those who empowered her... and if the dozens of records of the people who took care of her were correct, previous Justitias have slain some of them, even. The Romans have even elevated the original Justitia as a god. [break][break] Under the watch of her caretakers her skills were honed; she was trained how to fight blindfolded--- because when she was to take the office of Justitia, the sense of sight was to be taken from her. Once in a while, her predecessor would pass by the secret town, and would train her herself, sometimes regaling her of stories of the outside world. She told her how she found her amongst orphans, and how, someday, the Fates would conspire and she would find her own successor, although they might be not of as young age and they may have their own home. All these lessons and things Julia thought of, very deeply. She grew a habit of looking intently at things, so she could remember how they looked like. [break][break] It was in 2008 when the aliens invaded, and while Julia was unaware of it happening at that time, her predecessor fought in opposition of the extraterrestrials, as well. It would be another story that the preceding Justitia would tell her, even as she noticed that her mentor was becoming older, becoming weaker, becoming slower. It may not be obvious to other people, but she knew that the day that she would take her mantle was approaching. But her mentor merely smiled, and told her to only go when she was ready, even if she died. She also told her that when she went into the world--- to seek out the Initiative. Beyond all that, though, her teacher told her that she was free to do as she wished, and those were only advice--- as long as she took their ideal to heart. [break][break] A few years later, her predecessor died a peaceful death from old age, and she took up the mantle. Obeying her advice, she stayed for a little more to hone her skills, even as now the elders of the village saw fit to give her information about the outside world. It is only recently that she went to Kingsport to join the Initiative. What would happen next... that remains to be known. [attr="class","subcat"]trivia July 17, Julia's birthday, is International Justice Day. She also knows unarmed combat, although most of what she knows are things that can be used at the same time one wields her weapons, like kicks and attacks with the off-hand. She may carry a normal sword or staff sometimes, even if she can summon her astral weapons (see below). [break][break] [attr="class","subcat1"]Freerunning Julia is skilled at running, jumping, climbing, vaulting, rolling, and other dexterous movements, and in the combination of such movements so as to overcome obstacles. She is capable of most feats a skilled practitioner of parkour can do. [break] [attr="class","subcat"]Oath of Justitia The wielder of the powers of Justitia must always be just. Acting in an unjust manner weakens one's hold of the powers, possibly losing it altogether if such actions are constant or grievous enough. [break][break] In the event that a bearer of the name Justitia loses the powers, the elders of the hidden village of Justitia are the ones to look for a successor, rather than the predecessor. While her powers are named after various gods, she can use them against them, if she sees fit to. [break][break] [attr="class","subcat1"]Blindfold of Fortuna The Blindfold of Fortuna is not actually the blindfold that she wears--- that one is mostly ornamental. It is the curse that takes away Justitia's vision, in return for the powers listed below. [break][break]
[break] [attr="class","subcat1"]Scales of Maat An astral weapon that Justitia can summon and dismiss; if disarmed, she can recall it back to her hands. It takes the form, as the name suggests, of a pair of scales, hanging from each of the ends of a long rod with a pair of chains each; each of the pans are large enough to be a shield. She wields it as a strange combination of staff and a couple of flails, sometimes even grappling opponents with it. It can deflect and diffuse psionic and magical phenomena when used to strike. It cannot be wielded at the same time as the Sword of Nemesis. It also provides Justitia with the powers listed below. [break][break]
[break] [attr="class","subcat1"]Sword of Nemesis An astral weapon that Justitia can summon and dismiss; if disarmed, she can recall it back to her hands. It is much deadlier than the Scales of Maat, but with a catch: first, for it to be summoned, Justitia must be facing an opponent who she believes, with full conviction, must be killed for the sake of justice--- that there is no other way to make the opponent pay for their crimes, perhaps because of circumstances, like the current threat they carry every second they continue to live, and they cannot be convinced or subdued to surrender and repent. It cannot be used with the Scales of Maat, although any accumulated strength, speed, and resistances generated by the blessings of the Scales remain when the Sword is summoned. [break][break] The blade carries a potent curse, ignoring superhuman physiologies, healing factors, and even formlessness to inflict severe wounds that cannot heal, without extensive magical exorcism. It can strike astral projections to damage the real body of the target. It ignores armor and all sorts of protective obstructions; the only way to defend against it is to avoid it altogether. [break][break] It passes harmlessly through targets Justitia does not wish to eliminate, actually allowing her to attack a hostager through a hostage, or even kill possessing and parasitic entities without damaging the host. It can even kill those deemed to be immortals, earning the office of Justitia the epithet of Godslayer; for those who could come back from death, even, the curse remains in some manner. [break][break] However, this is not a weapon to be used lightly. It is a melee weapon, and thus lacks range, even when compared to the Scales. While it can be thrown, Julia is not yet that skilled in such a maneuver, and doing so means it would take a while before she could recall it, leaving her unarmed. Prolonged use of the sword quickly exhausts Julia, and often after using it she is out for the fight. [break][break] Furthermore, if the Sword finds out that it has been used unjustly or wrongly, whether by ignorance or malice, it inflicts a corresponding curse on the user--- possibly killing her. It is unknown how the Sword discerns if it has been unjustly used, and when a punishment comes, only that it is inevitable, and so Justitia must be completely certain before she bares this blade. |
