An author or artist rarely ever is. Every author has their quirk, for Van Gough, it was cutting off his ear, for Claire, it’s simply causing terror and discord. She’s not just crazy as a villain, but her attitude as a person is schizophrenic and sociopathic. She hates negative criticism, often symbolically killing her critics in her next issue of comics. With fans, she’s pretty nice to them, often talking with them about what they like. If they have a small problem with a small mistake she did, she will take that criticism only from them. [break][break] Her main outlet of relieving stress is in her villain work, but in her personal life, her comics often portray certain figures she despises getting killed. Her main shtick of her comics and mangas are that the heroes practically never win. The villains seem to be the real protagonists. In this day and age of heroes being praised, this is considered a gutsy move and is often praised by anarchists and people that are “anti-establishment.” [break][break] Did suffer psychological trauma in childhood due to being insulted for her art. Lost her possessions in a fire. Beaten up with severe trauma at the age of 12 for drawing a bully getting sent to the headmaster’s office. Rarely made friends after that. More info in the biographical details. [attr="class","subcat"]biographical details Claire was born to Genkito Araki and Jean Araki in 1990 in Kyoto. Her father was a graphic artist and her mother was a former American author. As a young child, she enjoyed drawing with crayons and often would see her art displayed on the refrigerator. [break][break] Things began to go wrong after the first day of first grade. Other kids laughed at her for her drawings. She cried about it. The teachers tried to make her classmates stop, but they wouldn’t. Often, her paper would be snatched from her and they would scribble over her carefully drawn pictures. She would be by herself during recess and refused to hang out with a lot of kids except for a few others that enjoyed drawing. She found solace at home watching superhero cartoons, both American and Japanese alike. [break][break] When she was around seven years old, a fire burned down her house, along with her parents’ box full of Claire’s drawings. Claire was saddened that she would never be able to see them again, and became more reclusive. She wanted those pictures back… Why couldn’t a superhero have saved the pictures? She saw them doing fantastic things in cartoons, so why didn’t they help her? [break][break] At around 12, she began to have more friends. Art class was amazing with her friends, and she was getting much better with her tools. A local bully had been taking her friends’ lunch money one day. In protest, she drew the bully getting sent to the headmaster’s office. The bully somehow found out, and ended up cornering her and beating her up. She was crying. Why were they so mean? Why wasn’t anyone saving her? Around that time, she passed out due to a concussion of her hitting her head on the brick walls with extreme force. [break][break] She woke up in the hospital’s intensive care unit with many broken bones, a punctured lung, along with a fractured skull. The bully was put under extreme criminal charges and expelled, but her parents decided it was time to move to America. Still, she wondered why no heroes had saved her… She eventually recovered from her wounds, but she gave up drawing for a while and began writing. Her mother helped her by giving some writing advice and she eventually published her first book, regarded as a small success. [break][break] One day, as she was walking home from college, a paintbrush fell from the heavens and landed in the middle of the street like a feather. Claire picked it up and discovered that it had the ability to do… things. However, it inspired her to start drawing again. She then started drawing comics, both manga and American comics with a dark twist of a villain protagonist and heroes that usually died. She was regarded as a bold author and artist. [break][break] Things got strange after the initiative was formed. More critics attacked her work, to which she responded with more death. She was walking home one night when she witnessed a robber break into her apartment. Her landlord came in and tried to stop him, but the burglar had a gun. The landlord didn’t. Her carpet was stained with red from two bodies. She had drawn a gun in her hands for revenge. She then experienced the sweet sensation of revenge. Sweet, sweet revenge! Now, to get back at those supposed heroes for letting her get hurt for all those years. With her paintbrush, she drew herself an outfit, and became Katakana, the author of heroes’ deaths. However, the things she draws are always weaker than the real things. She can work this to her advantage in making traps and the like, but this means any defensive barrier she draws will be weaker. For example, if she drew a stone wall, it would be more easily destroyed than a normal wall. She cannot draw physical life into reality. She has the ability to draw certain onomatopoeias or katakanas into reality. For instance, if she paints a "Whoosh" sound effect, a gust a wind will blow. If she paints a "boom" sound effect, it will have the effect of an explosion. The bigger she draws it, the bigger the effect. [attr="class","subcat"]Fast Drawing She draws quite quickly using her wrist, arm, and small, trained bit of psychic telekinetic ability for the finer details. She’s able to project what she’s thinking onto a canvas quite quickly, whether it be for a page, or for life. [attr="class","subcat"]Erasure She can “erase” things from existence and replace them with something else, be it a void or another object completely. For example, she could erase the wheel off of a tire and replace it with a giant rubber duck or even a bomb. However, it takes more time than just drawing a replacement for something. She cannot use this to erase physical life. [attr="class","subcat"]Sociopathic Torture Claire is no stranger to torturing techniques. Her comics are a testament to this. Hell, you could even say her comic book depictions of torture are basically PG versions of what she can do. She’s a sadistic torturer, using her ability to draw things into reality as a way to make people pay. [attr="class","subcat"]Artist She won’t half-ass her work due to her professionalism. Her creations are always realistic. In fact, the only reason nobody’s ever pinned her down as both the artist and the villain is due to her style change. Her schizophrenic self separates the two parts and gives them very distinct styles, both equally as good as the other. |
