Why stop at land when you can conquer the sea? The S.S. Rosa Parks is an aircraft carrier, normally stationed in the Atlantic but now brought much closer to home in the Gulf of Mexico. Fighter planes filled the sky, but they were never built to fight a dragon. Planes and pilots both fell, cast down into the churning waters below by RYOU. Who was this dragon? No one knew for sure, but quietly the Initiative recognized him as their own--but they would never have believed that he'd side with Phoenix Force, not until they learned of its mind control abilities. More planes approached, these ones with heroes onboard, here to--hopefully--save the day. This is an event thread meant for 2-3 to characters to fight Ryou. Please wait for the Phoenix-empowered opponent to post first and set the stage, and then jump in. General plotting for the Phoenix fights can be found here, and feel free to Skype and/or PM your thread-mates to discuss how the fight goes. Staff will step in if necessary. |

Images filled his mind of a great, flaming bird traversing the blackness of space in its glorious form of light before settling down on a star and consuming it. Just by gazing at the bird in his head, he felt his eyes melting from its divine radiance, burning away his unworthy mortality. When his consciousness was finally left at peace, he had opened his eyes to the rapid pull of clouds around his vision as though the sky was sucking them in. He realized then that he was falling. I Twenty meters tall. Thirty-six meters wide. The dragon could have been more fearsome in size as it were in fantasy books, high as a mountain, tearing through metal like they were paper and crushing people under their claws like they were ants. But its lesser size was no setback as its scales proved more formidable than diamonds. Every scratch that missiles and bombs do leave heal in a matter of seconds. Military aircrafts swarmed at a distance away, lurking like sharks who have lost their bloodlust and teeth. For quite some time now since its retaliation, the dragon had been calm, quietly beating its obsidian wings amidst the roaring vehicles. Yellow alligator eyes glowing with a molten light peered through its reptilian face, staring at a single, nearing plane before it as though it foresaw the inevitable fate it had brought over. The heroes have come. Something in the subconscious of the dragon knew that. Wind rushed into the dragon’s nostrils as it did a great inhale. It opened its maw. Recognizing the motion, the aircrafts in its direction quickly dispersed. Boiling lava fire would burst out of its mouth, incinerating all that it touched as it had several times before, the remains it had burned turning into ashes, disappearing into the air like scattered sand. But no fire bounded forward. The dragon’s jaw remained wide open in some sort of frozen stasis. If one looked closely, a concentrated amount of light was growing from a tiny dot in its mouth. That dot turned into the size of a fist then of a ball until the quivering mass of energy became visible to everyone. The dragon threw its head back and fired a beam of plasma laser from its mouth. wgPTY8rB < 30: the plane is grazed in its attempt to evade

Oberon was being carried by a fighter jet, great. So, there was a dragon. He never fought a dragon before, and he was excited. Jumping out of the moving plane he fell below nearing the water as his aura activated and before he knew it. Black glittery wings appeared out of his back as he flew above the water to go meet the dragon. He was being a menace, congrats. And then , he blew up the fighter plane he was in. Fucking. Fantastic. Not that it mattered to him.
Rushing down towards the water, he put his hand in as a woman's touch grabbed his hand giving him the okay. He smiled before splashing the water slightly. He nodded as he felt the sky darken, pulling his hand out a black mass of fairy dust appeared in his hand as he said an incantation in the fae language. "Family's over water, rise to me," he spoke as he threw the orb into the sky turning it into a shower of fairy dust and soon, many water fae, nymph's and Nareid's rose from the sea to help aid their master in armies.
Turning his direction towards the dragon he grabbed one of the Nareid's hands before it pulled him down. A whirlpool appeared the ocean sucking water in and soon. A small dragon appeared from the wave of water. As Oberon flew up, fairy dragons. Despite being small, he had a lot to give. After all, Dragon on Dragon was pretty hot.
He flew up in the air as he opened his mouth to roar and soon, several roars of booming thunder appeared from the sky in continuous echo.

I'M waking up to Ash and dust 0451 words for ryou, justinia, and oberon
officially luso's first post! fully suited up, longinus leaned against the terminal, luso laid, stretch, in the pilot's seat of his one-man jet. his feet were still flat. not minutes away, a small fleet of planes had just been swat out of the air, any number of fine members of the us air force out of commission, flies dropping into the gulf.
luso, meanwhile, was peacefully picking at an old walkman, trying to wiggle the tape deck shut. he was smiling.
--- the debrief was, admittedly, short for his tastes. deliberate wiggle room for operatives to work in was written into the mission. suffice to say, the extradimensional threat to earth hadn't registered in the lunarian's mind yet; seeing command in varying stages of panic and bargaining at high alert was, suffice to say, odd.
--- by the time he managed to get beethoven playing through the system speakers -- this particular occasion called for ode to joy, in his opinion -- the windshield of the initiative ship began to flood with statistics. smoke rose on the horizon. it was all there: radars, with two friendly blips shortly behind him, the other two assigned to the distress call; the current number of reported and estimated casualties, which rose incrementally; and, perhaps most noticbly, a rough, incomplete, 3d rendering of the target to be subdued, gathered by the scans of fighter jets falling to their deaths."so, if i am understanding correctly, she is off with her brother and great-great-grandmother on the eastern coast, fighting her uncle?" he mused, mildly, into his earpiece, to the other two on the channel. he spoke, of course, of the leader of the silver hawks, off in lune-knows-where doing her own thing. "mon dieu. on la lune, our families are not nearly so large."he rose from his seat, sweeping his hand over to pick up his two-pronged crimson lance, before stepping back out of the cockpit. the knight gave his weapon a cursory twirl, a flourish and weight check; it was as light in his hands as ever. "and on la lune, we have no such dragons. and yet they call her majesty's forces dragoons. but i digress."a minute to arrival to target landing zone. the behemoth's figure became noticable, now, its shadow blacking out the sea below, blending seamlessly into its obsidian visage. the white-haired boy's serene smile perservered, as simple-minded as ever. taking arms, he made for the ladder behind him, which reached to the top-most hatch of the jet. it was a good thing he didn't bring anything valuable (not that he'd have anything to consider so), else it would become part of luso's first blow at the black dragon: the very plane he was flying on, right then. I FEEL IT IN MY BONES, ENOUGH TO MAKE MY SYSTEMS BLOW PHARAOH LEAP.

"That is what I have heard, too, Mister Luso."she responded to the lunarian's musings over the comms. She was standing, the Scales of Maat already manifested.
An aerial fight... she was uncertain how well she would do. It was against someone with the power of the Phoenix Force--- or rather, a thrall; she had heard the dragon was one of their fellow heroes, although right now the mysterious cosmic entity had its talons on the drake's mind. Her scales could perhaps do something about it--- or if not, perhaps her sword--- although the latter was not to be used lightly. She hoped they could save him--- even as beating him meant they would save the others. Beating him without slaying him...she supposed that was her goal. She hoped her comrades in this mission were of... similar mind.
"The family of lady Artemis is larger than most, still, Mister Luso." she responded, again. She... did not exactly have the experience of a family; although perhaps the members of the village where she grew up could qualify. "Perhaps your dragoons were successful in driving all the dragons away, Mister Luso?" Ah, but as the moon man had said himself, it was a digression--- they had a dragon to fight.
The jet she was in was unmanned, unpiloted, save for her. It was expected to not make a return trip... it was just to bring her here; it was of a minimalist design, she had heard. Already their opponent had decimated one jet with something--- something that did not quite sound like fire. Something... more intense. The Phoenix must be enhancing the beast it had chained.
She could hear their adversary already. Rumbling sinews of flesh underneath rough scales cutting through the air, she could hear. She could smell the burning, feel the shaking, the crashing of planes this way and that, their pilots and passengers screaming--- she grit her teeth as she heard. She couldn't be everywhere, so she will just have to do her best with this. She steeled her mind. Already the Scales were recognizing the threat, blessing her in turn so that she might have the strength, and the speed, to fight it.
I will save you.
She pressed the button she was instructed to, and a hatch opened on top of the jet. As the jet zoomed towards the dragon, much like what the dragoon had done with his own craft, she jumped upwards, aiming to board the behemoth they were to subdue.

His enormous body felt like it had hardened to stone. He struggled to beat his wings, the screams below in the panicked city keeping him wide awake. As he gathered his bearings and flight in the air, he peered at the flaming bird in the sky where the comet was once at. It wasn’t the same bird. This one was weaker, lesser…a piece of the true threat. But there were no more answers that could come to him. He neared the ground, forced himself to fly over the buildings and into the clearing, and dropped, exhausted. When he closed his eyes, the vision did not come to him for the second time.
What had he seen? What had he'd been shown?II There was no spine-shivering roar that erupted to match the epic cacophony that exploded by the sea and by the sky. The black dragon met the heroes with an eerie, calculative silence, its wings in a constant rhythm of beating, as insistent as the monotonous ticking of a clock, unperturbed and undisturbed as though the noises of the brave ones were mere buzzing flies. The dragon looked upon the army of fae creatures that appeared before it with an unreadable, golden gaze. It seemed to pause, almost as if it were reconsidering its options, but it might have been just one’s over-imagination. The dragon opened its jaw, revealing a spiny set of fangs, sticky and stretching with thick saliva. Once more, a concentration of light gathered in its mouth. As the dragon was weaving the energy, the planes sent by Boy Bahamt and Justitia crashed into his back, one near one of his webbed wings and another at the spine. But like all the munitions emptied by the fighter planes, the suicide of the two planes left no mark, serving only to cloud the dragon’s form with thick-black smoke and wisps of burning debris. It had remained still, however, allowing descent on its back possible. But it wasn’t going to be as easy as it looked. When the dragon reared its back and sent forth a plasma laser from its mouth, day fought to seize the darkened sky. The dragon’s entire body shook with tremors from the plummeting force it was letting loose. This time, the sea met its fury in hissing masses of steam as the dragon swiveled its head at the army of fae below, cutting pathways on the waters. When the beam was ended, twilight bled at the heavens and turned into darkness. pr2wyR7O < 10: the laser is a critical hit

Oberon watched as the laser hit his army but didn't land a very critical hit. Several were injured, but being as water was a healing element, many of the injured wouldn't last. Plus, they're in their natural habitat so the injuries wouldn't even be that harmful.
Oberon looked up at the dragon with anger as sky darkened and the moon rolled in. The little dragon hissed and the sky cracked and roared with thunder echoing loudly and rumbling. Flying around the man, considering he was a smaller he was able to fly around with much more accuracy than the larger dragon. That was an upside. Checking on his army below too, he nodded at them as several of the warriors shot out scalding hot and freezing cold water balls and streams at the bigger dragon.
Spell time. A blue magical circle appeared on the water as several nymphs surrounded it changing giving it more energy. Fairy dust collected in the center in a small orb.
Oberon flew around the dragon trying to find a good spot to hit, and he found one. Oberon opened his mouth as a small ball of concentrated fairy dust formed in front of his mouth as he shot it at the dragon's underbelly. And soon, continued with concentrated beams and balls.
Oberon connected his mind to the other two superheroes. "Have any plan of action?" he telepathically said to both of them.

I'M waking up to Ash and dust "monsieur luso?" the dragoon half-scoffed, half-chuckled, his voice as smooth a baritone as ever. his craft flew near enough the target monster that smoke began to smear at the windshield and the temperature became just barely tepid. he hopped just barely, grabbing onto the top rung of the exit ladder, the exit hatch mechanism clunkily undoing itself. "madame, s'il vous plait! there is no need for such formalities among comrades, especially not with..."
like a comet, he streaked into the air, the top of the jet his launch pad, becoming a blur of red, red-purple, and magenta. and with pride, he rallied,
"boy bahamut!"
steeling himself, the aerial fighter bounded from the top of falling craft to falling craft, soaring and twirling with finesse through the fleet, cackling with vigor. this, this is what he spent decades training for on the moonbase; the thrill of the hunt and toppling monstrous beasts, not solving petty murders and solving scuffles in the street. this is what it meant to be a dragoon!
by now, luso's craft had made itself a missile and flown directly for the dragon's maw, making itself a useful distraction before being evaporated by ryou's plasma beam. more ash to cloud the seas, no less. he'd need to test the beast's vision in the darkness-- he hadn't studied reptilians, especially not fantastical ones. with a bit of spring (hah) in his step, the white-haired menace made his best attempt to command authority, reaching ever-closer to landing on the beast's back.
"justinia, i shall trust you to deal the critical blows. my spear would too easily drill through the beast, and we simply can not have another member of our homely corps dead with our numbers already so quickly dwindling, non?" he grinned.
when a telepathic link nipped at his brain stem, luso's spine tingled-- but in recognition, not fear. the women of his satellite were all psions, so this was too familiar. "and oberon, king of the fey, was it? i have not forgotten about you, my friend! pleasure to be working with you. would you kindly ensure our friends upon the seas take to safety while i divert the beast's attention?" I FEEL IT IN MY BONES, ENOUGH TO MAKE MY SYSTEMS BLOW PHARAOH LEAP.

She hurtled through the air, with significantly less grace than her fellow Hawk. "If you say so, Mister Luso." she replied, slightly unaware she had used the address again as she concentrated on landing on the dragon's back. That was the easy part.
The hard part was staying on. But hard did not mean impossible.
As the dragon reared to shoot its beam--- or at least that was what it sounded and felt like, now that she was much, much nearer--- she clambered and danced upon the scaled creature's back, finding footholds in between scales that others would miss, as if she were playing some extreme version of hopscotch. At one point, she actually lost hold of the drake, but managed to come back just in time as the reptilian's attack subsided.
It was then that a telepathic link opened, asking them if they had a plan. Their last ally--- Oberon, the fae--- he was who was speaking. "Are you certain your telepathy is secure, Lord Oberon?" she asked aloud, even as she continued her ascent--- her target was the dragon's head. She had almost resisted the telepathic intrusion, if not for the fact that it didn't quite sound like the Phoenix.
"You can use the comms, or you could speak plainly--- I can hear you from here." She was not lying; even amidst the cacophony of wing and roar and fire and water she could pick out their voices, even without the aid of the communication devices. They might not hear hers, though.
She inwardly measured her strength. Not yet. Not yet enough. But perhaps it might not be needed. She was thankful that Mister Luso did not wish to kill their controlled comrade--- it was a relief, but of course they still had to do the incapacitation of said comrade. "Understood." she breathed. "Mister Luso, Lord Oberon--- please keep---" she was going to say 'his attention', but with what she planned on doing, she probably would catch the dragon's attention nonetheless. "---the dragon occupied."
"I will try to whack the Phoenix out of his brain." she said with utmost seriousness, as she continued her fight to hold on the dragon's back and approach his skull from behind.

He was starved of energy, his eyelids dipping and the darkness soothing to his mind. When at last he had forgotten to resist the sleep, he faded to a vague, indiscernible dream. There might have been a story to it, but it came away as feebly as a spider web as his consciousness sharpened again and he managed to will himself to wake up. There was the bawling goat-nymph with him and, resting by his head, was Austin’s hero who took out the comet. An ill omen was upon then and the peace with the green field and colorful flowers lasted shorter than the sunset.III The tough scales continued to protect the dragon even from the aquatic assault. If it felt the slightest tinge of pain from the attack was difficult to tell from its unresponsiveness, but the water seemed to only trickle down its scales like rain shower. Suddenly, the dragon made a sharp motion. Its head dove down like a cracked whip and its jaw snapped open and close at the air near its underbelly. Magic had stuck its skin and it did not like it. Spotting Oberon’s small size even in the darkness, the dragon brought a crushing claw down at the fairy like the stomp of a giant and reached out with its mouth to swallow him whole. Oberon's communication was working but for a split second was all he needed to lose his balance, and soon. He was being tossed into the dragon's maw trying to struggle to fly out before darkness encompased his vision. It was dark and smelly in here, thich saliva get on his wing's and fur as he shivered, it was disgusting. His leg had been injuried and he needed to get out.
"A little help would be nice," He telepathaically said to both Justitia and BOY BAHAMUT.
Anyway, this position wans't so bad, it gave him a chance to harm the beast from the inside. Now, Ryou was a friend of his, so he couldn't do very much damage. He needed to find a way to get the phoenix to leave his mind. He could cast a spell from here, in attempt to knock the bird out of his brain. But how?

I'M waking up to Ash and dust the battle treaded into messier waters by the moment, but even in the chaotic storm of smoke and flame, this soldier had no issue weaving in and out of the dragon's reach. luso's smile twitched in a rare moment of concern when oberon, who he'd relegated the task of rescuing and evacuating the soldiers below, was sucked into the dragon's maw, but he quickly regained composure. he bit his lip, a forced pain to let him concentrate on formulating a new battle plan.
still in a position of bouncing about the dragon's side mid-air, luso had to act quickly. if he diverted the dragon's attention incorrectly, then the prisoner in its mouth would surely be consumed in the plasma, but compared to the lives of all the soldiers below... well, one fairy who couldn't follow directions was an acceptable sacrifice.
"obsidian beast! taste my steel!" shouted the dragoon vying for the phoenix-controlled beast's attention, the red pads on his hands glowing fiercely red as he slowed his descent to the point of nearly levitating in air. he spun his red-steel spear in the air like a propeller to gain momentum, then with perfect form, chucked the two-pronged longinus straight for the dragon's neck from its side. mid-throw, the weapon warped, its two prongs fusing into one singular point, body sheathed in steel, ready to simply rip through the dragon's (apparent) wind-pipe. It seemed like so many things were happening in just a matter of moments, and Julia was privy to every one of them.
The dragon made a sharp turn, and for a moment, yet again, Julia lost her hold--- but as she twirled in mid-air, she positioned the rod of her scales near her feet, and kicked it to get back on the dragon's back. As soon as she had her hold again, she recalled the scales back to her hand. Even as she did this, the lord Oberon, in the form of a much more diminutive drake, ended up inside the mouth of the beast. She forced down the feeling of panic--- the fae king might have other tricks up his sleeve, and she could help him best by doing what she could do.
"We're on it."
Her strength and speed have reached a new level, she sensed, even as she heard and felt the wind twist with the attacks of Mister Luso. It was an attack made towards the dragon's throat, and perhaps it might be a tad deadly--- but so far not much of their attacks have pierced the enchanted creature's hide, and it might deter the dragon from engulfing the faerie in his mouth with his destroying light.
She crept up, closer and closer--- she was just behind the dragon's head. The Scales of Maat can banish psychic and magical influences--- but this was the Phoenix Force, even if just a fragment. There was no telling how effective this would be. Still, she had to try. If this fight could end quickly, without further carnage and bloodshed...
Wake up, Ryou!
With that thought, she attempted to slam both of her scales at the dragon's head in quick succession.

He wanted to warn them. He wanted them to go and leave. But he was too late. The flaming bird dove down from the sky and possessed the unconscious woman asleep by his head. Her spasms left him internally howling in his own horror, helpless, as molten light spilled from her eyes and an unseen struggle taking over her mind and being took place.
As he watched on, recalling the memory, he thought he heard someone call his name.IV Pain blinded the dragon. An anguished cry sliced through above all noises. A lance stuck out of its long throat like a thorn, having pierced right through the scales, deeply within its muscles. The dragon spat out Oberon in the process and wildly turned to the direction of the attack. The dragon reared its head again, but this time, plumes of flames spread out of its mouth, shooting outward in a cone as the fire rapidly rolled out like an explosion. The bright, angry flames cast menacing shadows on the dragon's face. OBERON

He was spat out, disgusting. "Thanks," he told the woman while heading towards the sea a group of nymphs had collected to catch Oberon from his falling descent as he made it onto the ocean the woman grabbed him and started cleaning him off. He spat out a bit as he looked up at the dragon summoning a powerful shielding ward in front of the dragon's fire repelling it. He wasn't going to let the dragon hurt anybody and, why not use it against him? Summoning a glyph on near the dragon fire again, it started compressing into small orbs of the dragon's fire to which, flew back at him.
His wound's were bad as he was bleeding a lot as the nymphs tended to him, crying on his wounds to close then and repairing them with water magic. He got better in a matter of minute as he watched the dragon.
"My spell's nearly done charging, it'll give us time to knock the Phoenix Force out," He said as he flew back around shooting out blasts of concentrated magic. Summoning another glyph it appeared in front of his mouth as he shot out his fairy dust to enhance the concussive force of his fairy dust orbs.
