While a select group of heroes are on the path to Phoenix herself, the battle for Austin rages on the ground.
Leading the psychically controlled and empowered forces of Phoenix, is RUIN . One of Phoenix's foremost generals, he has been tasked with holding the frontline at Austin. You shall not pass, and all. Everyone appreciates the classics. Fighting has spilled out into the streets; this if full-on urban combat and it isn't pretty. Those heroes who would fight Ruin must contend with negating civilian casualties as well-- Austin has not been evacuated. This is an event thread meant for 2-3 to characters to fight Ruin (and his army). Please wait for the Phoenix-empowered opponent to post first and set the stage, and then jump in. General plotting for the Phoenix fights can be found here, and feel free to Skype and/or PM your thread-mates to discuss how the fight goes. Staff will step in if necessary. |

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]War was inevitable. Humans didn't really like when outside forces came in and took power from them. And so when the Phoenix appeared, and claimed the vigilante Maria as its host, and subsequently conquered Texas, people got angry. And so, today, the Initiative and its allies were waging war on the Phoenix's kingdom, turning Austin into a battlefield.[break][break]
Ruin stood atop a hill as he awaited the enemy. The Phoenix's army stood behind him, awaiting his orders. Meanwhile, the cityscape sprawling out for miles ahead was partly ablaze. The product of the fighting. Soon, Ruin and his army would attack in full force. The moment that Ruin could see them. He would pounce. He had no intentions of showing any form of mercy towards them. His eyes actually shone with a deep red light- the effect of the Phoenix's flame on him. He was normally quite the fierce opponent, but the Phoenix's psionic power had given him boundless stamina.[break][break]
Ruin then saw them. Normal ground troops, just soldiers. Easy fodder. He raised his sword above his head, signalling the begin of the battle. Ruin dashed down to meet the men, impressively, or even impossibly fast with that armor and huge sword. The soldiers were briefly unprepared for his attack, and though they fired on him, it didn't seem to matter as the huge sword completely destroyed them. The rumors painted the knight as a monster, but nothing could have prepared them for something like this. As their fire was focused more intensely on Ruin, he fell back, kneeling down and using the sword as a shield. The supers would be showing up any moment now, supporting the soldiers and presumably keeping civilian casualties down. It Was All A Game Within the midst of a brilliant display of chaos and disaster, there was one woman who fancied herself a girl who was still upbeat and jovial. Where there was disaster and peril, ten out of ten that meant there was fun to be had! And she just couldn't miss something like that now could she? All the chatter about some sort of space chicken that had came down to capture and rapture the world made Tinker all giddy, as even now it made her clap her small hands together, the never-ending smile on her face firmly implanted as always as she squealed, "Yeeeeeeeeee!" Yet not only was she one of the few people that were actually happy to be in the midst of a war for the world, she was probably the only one kick pushing on a skateboard through a town that was fleeing in pandemonium. In the far off distance the familiar voices of people getting pwned could be heard echoing, as well as bullets flying and all those good sounds that made Stephie know there would be lots and lots of thrills here.
Nonetheless, her childish imagination could not be stopped even by an army and a general for the space chicken as she brought THE DEVICE up to her face, adjusting her voice to be gruff and dirty as she said in serious monologue, "Captain's log: Day 35. There seems to be no signs of intelligent life on this planet, simply people flailing around, looking to escape. The sky is the color of a chewed orange Starburst, and everyone still wants to know...where the hoes at. God speed, God help us all." Giggling to herself, Tink came to a halt on her skateboard, obsidian hair blowing in the wind as her back foot moved to the tail of 'board. As she stood there with her hands on her hips, she didn't realize she had zoned out until the familiar UK voice of her A.I. system bellowed from THE DEVICE. She said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry to disturb your day dreams, but I was rather thinking that maybe you could potentially assist these fleeing citizens get to safety? Perhaps put them all on a bus, yes?" Jolting herself back to reality the woman picked her nose for a moment, scrunching her face up before retrieving an absurdly large booger that was stuck to her index finger. With a flick, it landed on one of the people running away, causing her to die in a fit of giggling before the young British voice piped up again, "Ma'am, this is no time for your juvenile antics, the world may be at stake here."
"Blah blah blah", she thought to herself, vexed at how she had created a system that was soooooooooooooooo uptight about everything all the time. However instead of protesting she raised her formerly boogered index finger to the sky as she said, "I'VE GOT IT! I'll just create a bus to assist all of these fleeing citizens, getting them to safety. Since it appears they may need assistance!" Muttering from THE DEVICE, A.S. harped, "Brilliant..." , oozing sarcasm from its marvelous core. She knew it was just better not to even go back and forth with the goggled being as it would go a whole lot of nowhere. Not because Tinker was argumentative, she simply didn't have a vast enough mental capacity. Throwing both hands up with her palms open and facing the ground, she shouted to the sky "ALRIGHT LET'S ROCK!" She was never one of those people who had to close their eyes to get to their imagination. To her autistic mind the world was already mythical and magical, she could see it. She had the vision, the bus was actually already there. As she thought of the bus, resisting the flames that attempted to scorch it, the bullets that tried to penetrate it, the swords that would try to gouge it, the slow speed it would travel, and capacity issue. Her mind said BAH to such concepts, there was nothing that could stop the bus, not the "WE UP OUTTA HERE EXPRESS".
Metal sprang from seemingly nowhere, as the bus of her dreams was put together rather hastily, pink flames scorching the side of the bus, but doing no harm. For what was a light speed bus without awesome graphic effects?! Shit! That's what. The last spiked tire rolled onto the infinitely durable bus as the fleeing crowd stopped in awe to look at it, their own panic being put to the side for a "how in the hell" moment. That gleaming smile of Tink's shown brightly as she gazed upon her brilliant creation with them before shouting in a southern baptist voice, "Gets yo babiez, get yo wife, get yo hussssban', and get on that bus. We movin' on up! Get em outta here Ash." The digital being replied, "Yes, Ma'am", as it gained the mechanical controls of the vehicle, the horn seemingly blaring on its own, alerting everyone to hurry up. Placing her hands on her hips, the daredevil looked towards where the chaos was coming from as she said to the heavens, "AND NOW I CAN HAVE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!", as she clapped her small hands together once again with insane glee.

"Austin... Always a lovely sight." Outlaw muttered to himself amidst the surrounding chaos as he rode into town from the north, traveling from his home in Dallas atop his sleek, black Harley softail slim. Decelerating his bike to a mild stride, he casually removed his left hand from the bars in front of him to place a cigarette between his lips, proceeding to light it shortly afterwards. Scanning his eyes across the scenery laid out before him, he witnessed a familiar sight, the fields of war. There was nothing new here. Soldiers on two different sides of a fight killing and dying for reasons that they probably didn't really understand. There was no way to fault the soldiers on either side, they were probably just following orders.
Veering in and out of various gunfire and explosions with relative ease, he returned his left hand to the bars of the large motorcycle. Relinquishing his right hand's grip on the leather covers of the steel handlebars, he reached for the holsters at his chest and grabbed the butt of Peacemaker from the right side, brandishing it calmly. The thundering sound of it's gunfire filled the air as he casually swerved through the streets of the burning city, gunning down any of the invaders he saw. The carcasses of the revolver's victims splattered in the streets as a result of the small explosion caused by the bullets, often staining allied soldiers as Alexander carved a bloody, bullet riddled swath through the city. While enemy soldiers would often shift their gunfire to him as he continued his patrol through each block of the endangered Austin, it posed no real threat. He'd seen far too many bullets fly his way in his extended lifetime, and in firefights like these, he thrived.
Hanging a hard right at a small crossroads as the tires of his bike squealed, he eyed a high school that had been set ablaze, likely as a result of incendiary use in some of the ground warfare. Nonchalantly driving a bullet through the skull of an enemy soldier that had taken shots at him, he hummed an old fashioned tune to himself as he thought about the current situation. So far, he hadn't seen a single civilian since he entered Austin. Albeit he arrived late, as he wasn't sure he cared enough to intervene in matters he had no knowledge of, there was still no reason to assume they'd all been wiped already. Coupled with his knowledge of the government's incompetency, he knew there was no way they were evacuated safely. Hell, the soldiers could barely handle themselves, let alone protect innocents.
"Bunch of rookies. It's like they don't know the barrel from the stock." He commented loudly on the incompetency of the invading soldiers as he rode past them, gunning them down by the numbers. It was even more disappointing that the allied soldiers were losing to this pack of rabble. It wasn't until he hung another right directly into a blockade of the bastards that he faced any real problems. Skirting out as he leaned the bike to the side to duck the storm of bullets he now found heading his way, he quickly kicked the harley away from himself, causing him to slide across the rough concrete as the motorcyle scraped forward into the group of soldiers. Taking aim, he fired a shot from peacemaker at the bike's gas tank, causing it to violently combust in the midst of the group. Flames spurted from the machine into the surrounding area as Alexander withdrew Enigma from his left hand's holster and took a shot at the first surviving soldier to peek through the resulting smoke.
In the moment the bullet took to travel, Outlaw was able to rise from the ground and position himself to the left of bike's now heated remains. The bullet struck the soldier's head with a loud zip as he fell to the ground. Most of the large group had been killed or badly burned by the explosion, and the few that survived unscathed saw it fit to try to run. "I liked that bike, too." He sighed as he gazed longingly at the bike's remains, before raising his revolvers and picking off each of the troops trying to flee. It had occured to him to leave one living, maybe he could have gotten information as to what was actually behind this madness... No, too tedious. Interrogation wasn't his style, and it's not like he planned to let them live even if they had spilled the beans. Peering around as the smoke receded, he decided the only thing he could do was continue on foot. Eventually he'd come across someone or something that would make the situation clear to him. He continued his tour of the familiar city by firing shots into the distance with Enigma, picking off enemies as he zipped around, looking for the source of the chaos.

You had appeared in Austin with a flourish of petals, citizens pouring into the streets. It's always the screaming that gets to you. The city hadn't been evacuated. You shook your head at this, the initiative dropping the ball once again. If they wondered why you never joined their ranks this would be a perfect answer. But you were good at this, good at calming, guiding. Citizens bolted past you, the street already covered in many of their bodies. You're near the center of the city. You're near where the fighting is heaviest.
You waved your hand and a field of flowers bloomed across the street, up the first block you could see. A light mist began to pour from them. Calm them, you closed your eyes and commanded your flowers, calm them and guide them. Your flowers began to weave in the direction of the city limits, swaying to show the way. Citizens stopped screaming, becoming more orderly, as you raised into the air on a large vine. "Please follow the path of flowers to the city limits! Once you pass me you'll be safe, I promise!" you yelled out above the chaos, people flocking to your flowers. Flocking to you, a super, because you're the safest option they've got.
A bullet flew past your head, and for a moment your breath hitched. A small group of enemy soldiers had rounded the corner, drawn by the display of your powers. Without a second thought you dove towards them, vines growing thick, weaving you in and out of their line of fire. One, two, three - you stopped counting after three as more appeared around the corner. I got this, this is easy. They're just human. you thought to yourself as a red poppy bloomed behind them. You vanished off the top of your vine, appearing behind the group of soldiers, all in a neat line. Easy.
Roots ripped through the ground beside them, piercing through the neck of the first, second, down the line. They barely had time to make any sounds, you almost felt somewhat bad. Almost, before wondering how many people they'd managed to kill before you even made it here. You raised them, connecting the roots in an arch, holding them above the street. A warning, a promise, maybe both. You knew there had to be more supers here, and you knew they all weren't going to be on your side - a bus horn rang through the block, breaking your train of thought.

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]A haze of bullets. Raining down on the knight from an encroaching and ever growing circle of enemy combatants, all firing down on Ruin, trying to break his defense and end him. As more and more shells littered the ground around them, more and more smoke and dust was thrown up around the Reaper, until eventually, he was completely obscured from sight. The men who surrounded the general eventually stopped firing, knowing that someone must have finished him off in that torrent of lead.[break][break]
Wrong. The moment the bullets stopped raining, there was a very brief moment of silence. One of the men reached for his communicator to make a report. "The enemy's general is-" he began, only to be cut off by screams. Looking around, he could see nothing. A thick haze still dominated his view, it stretched all across this area of the battlefield. Perturbed and understandably worried, he lifted his rifle, prepared to fight at any moment. He was alone in the fog. More screams rang out. He threw his sights left and right, waiting, sweating. The screams stopped. Nothing was happening. The man stopped breathing, heart stopped beating, for a moment. Was he going to be fine?[break][break]
He could only hope the smoke would clear. And, eventually, it did. The man gasped, his sweat breaking harder after seeing what he did. A small crater, where Ruin had been. All of the men besides him lay strewn about the ground, dismembered, nearly unrecognizable. And Ruin was gone. The man looked all around, nearly crying, and he started backing up. As he stepepd backwards, he bumped into something large. He turned around, wondering what it could have been, and saw him there.[break][break]
Little Tina was crying when she heard another scream from outside. Her grandfather embraced her tightly, saying, "Don't worry, I'll keep you safe, I'll keep you-" but suddenly he was cut off, when the fire that raged around them became more intense, the ceiling above them crackling with the heat. Something cracked loudly above them, and Tina cried out in fear. All her grandfather could do was pull her close in an embrace. His legs were wounded, and he would have trouble getting up at all. So this was all he could do. He began to cry. This girl was his life, and he couldn't just let hers be snuffed out like this.[break][break]
Above them, the cracking got louder. As the thin whitewall on the ceiling cracked away, revealing the frame above, Tina's grandfather could see that many of the large beams were burning intensely. The man curled more tightly around the small girl, unable to do anything as the beam snapped, falling, falling- But it never crashed down on their heads. Looking up, Tina saw a man there. A man clad in black armor, covered head to toe in blood, with an immense sword strapped to his back. He must have heard their cries. And so he stood there, holding the beam up with both hands. He looked to them. "Can you walk, old-timer?" he asked, to which the man shook his head "I c-could if I could...stand..." he said, voice muffled by the loud crackling of the fire. Ruin nodded, using his tall sword to prop up the beam. He helped the man to his feet, kicking the door down, opening a path to the outside. "Go. No need for you two dying, not your war." They left, and as soon as they were gone, Ruin pulled out his sword, leaving the house as it collapsed.[break][break]
Ruin watched as refugees got onto some weird magic looking bus. He seemed to have stepped into the street everyone was evacuating from. Soldiers turned and saw him, opening fire, knowing who he was. And so, Ruin started killing them, they were the enemy after all. It Was All A Game As another pair made there way onto the bus, the horn blared outrageously once more, before the doors closed and it seemed to instantly disappear from sight, leaving only tire marks in the spot where it had once been a split second ago. The tar on the ground had turned molten and was bubbling profusely as Tink clapped her hands together as she looked at the strange substance, a light coo of "OoOoOOoO" escaping from her mouth as he did so. This was entirely more interesting than what was going on in front of her, as a taller man in obsidian armor was slicing thru people, their groans of terror and agony ripping thru the urban environment, though it seemed that Stephanie was completely oblivious as she continued to "OoOoOoO" at the concrete before her. Digging in her ear with her left pinky finger, her face screwed up once more, as THE DEVICE caused her to jump slightly, the irate voice of a British woman chiming thru, attempting to "wake up" her handler. Ashley said, "MA'AM, I know that you have an idea, but I think it's best you save your inventions for a more...suitable moment in time..."
The irony, as she had just told Tinker to make a bus to get those people out of here. Crossing her arms like a stubborn child the girl said, "You only want me to create when its convenient for you! HMPH!" Yet as she was throwing her head up in callous rebellion, she couldn't help but blink several times and attempt to rub her eyes as she looked at what appeared to be a soft black fog slaying the army that The Initiation thing had sent...that wasn't helping. As blood was being sprayed everywhere, she also noticed vines protruding from the ground everywhere, as some dude on a motorcycle ripped by, gun extended as he plowed through more of the oppositions. Thinking out loud in the tone of an old announcer guy she said, "The heroes have arrived!" Giggling lightly, the woman grabbed the goggles that sat on her forehead, pulling them down over her eyes as she thought to herself that fog didn't kill people! Well, maybe in her imagination it did, but there is no way she imagined this, that was just terribad. She wasn't THAT messed up. Or was she?
Tapping on her chin, she cast out such a thought, as she held the side of the goggles and screamed, "BEHOLD, the I SEE ALL THE THINGZ Eight Billions!" Though the goggles stayed aesthetically the sane, the world around her did not, as everything began to move in what looked to be super-super-super slow motion. As the entire world seemed to slow in her vision, so thus did the black fog, which was actually a person, something she couldn't help saying aloud, "It's a person!" But it still didn't make sense as to why he was all killing folks all willy nilly. Maybe this was his type of fun? But it just didn't intermix with daredevils own, oh noooooooo, and she couldn't have that! Throwing her arms in the air she shouted, "YEEEEEEEEEEE!", before it she began to make it rain on the armor clad warrior. And by rain, it was more like hail...that happened not to be hail at all. Nope, nope, nope. Aligning the man in her newly found perception, as a large high-speed rail train began to form itself mere inches away from Ruin, falling towards him as it constructed itself within milliseconds. On the window it was written, "The Dozer!", as it attempted to plow thru the warrior.
Crashing hectically into the ground, the train found itself going thru the pavement of the cityscape warzone, kicking up dust, debris, and creating a roar of sound. Of course Tinker could still see thru all of it in her "I SEE ALL THE THINGZ Eight Billions", as she began to catch some of the chunks of concrete that the force of the train had created, as she stowed her newly found "grenades" in her pocket, though when she pulled the pin, it would be the end of all that speedily running around for ol' Knight man! Maybe she could halt him without having to injure him was her thought, or if nothing else seeing him frozen in mid-air with a stupid look on his face would be satisfaction and thrilling enough!

The bus whips past as you turn to the sound of a yelling girl; luckily she was on your side. The black fog was now on your street, in your line of sight. You've heard of Ruin, your first thought being that he was nothing special. You waved your hand over your face and orchid's began to bloom. Their roots dug into your skin, glowing faintly. A few refugees stop to stare at you for a moment, you hear one whisper a soft prayer for you, before they continue to run down the street after the bus.
Vines began to sprout beneath your feet, creating a wave underneath you. It carried you quickly up the street. You kneeled for a second, hands against the vines; a glaive began to come into existence from them. You were a bit nervous, truth be told. Hand to hand combat was your weakest point. Sure, you were skilled, but not at an extremely high level. Against someone who's combat style revolves around close quarters you might struggle.
But that's entirely okay. The flowers pulse again. Looking up, you notice the rail train beginning to form in the sky, out of nowhere. "Holy shit.." you had to catch your breath for a second. Your vines stopped carrying you as you stuck your glaive in them, throwing your hands out towards Ruin. Vines ripped through the Earth, breathing, hungry it seemed. They struck out at Ruin in an attempt to immobilize him.

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]Of course it was like this. Who else but Tinker dropped trains from the ether onto people? As it collided with its target it sent dust all over the place, and out of the haze flew the sword, lodging itself three feet deep into the ground in front of Tinker. Fire, smoke, dust and other airborne debris filled the air around, though the daredevil would be able to see through it all. The train stayed mostly upright, beginning to tilt and fall, towards Orchid. But as it began to fall, it suddenly stopped, slowly being lifted back to a vertical position.[break][break]
Ruin was lifting the train. He was straining, but he was getting the thing up, a look of pure rage in his eyes. He extended his arms all of the way, the train swaying towards the top, before he threw it, at Tinker. It crashed through the pavement yet again, sliding through the asphalt, crunching it up like peanut brittle under the force of a rough stone. Ruin's sword tore through the underside of the train as it landed on top of the hilt, effectively splitting the train in half as it made its way down the street. Ruin was left standing there, and totally open to Orchid's attack.[break][break]
The vines wrapped around him tightly, and he growled in response, like a caged animal. Ruin struggled against his current bonds, and some of the vines did tear, but he couldn't get free of all of them at once. For the moment, he was stuck.[break] [attr="class","iconie"] [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:300px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#fff;border:solid 1px #b7b7b7;color:#939393;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:0px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#b7b7b7;border:2px solid #fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]
