Laurence Flamel was a brilliant but troubled bioengineer. The only person he seemed to care for was his wife, Ava. The two worked together and made grands strides in the world of bioengineering garnering some infamy among their peers. However, Flamel’s life would be torn apart when Ava he would hear that Ava had gotten into a fatal car crash driving home from the labs.

Losing Ava took an immeasurable toll on Flamel. He fell into despair and disappeared. He hid away in the depths Arkham, he was determined to use all of his knowledge to bring his wife back. He made himself makeshift lab under an abandoned house in the slums, he made a deal with the mafia to keep his location and identity hidden from anyone who may have been looking for him.

For the coming years he slaved away in that lab, working on a way to somehow bring back Ava. But science was failing him. He delved into the world of witchcraft and alchemy, tried to create a homunculus using Ava’s preserved corpse (that he had obtained through nefarious ways), but each one would die shortly after creation and none could survive beyond their flask.

Flamel was ready to surrender to his despair, he had spent nearly ten years working out a way to revive his wife with no success. But there was one last hope, a philosopher’s stone was said to grant miracles on par with acts of God. So for the next century Flamel, who was on the brink of madness, would use all of his resources to figure out the method of the Magnum Opus and create a philosopher’s stone. He didn’t regret anything he had done to obtain the stone, Flamel was lost to his delusions.

Combining the stone with parts of his wife’s brain, he hoped that this would somehow fuse Ava’s consciousness with the stone to create as exact mental replica. Flamel closely watched as a tiny, zygote looking creature grew within the flask. And grew it did, as the zygote rapidly grew into a human-like fetus.

Flamel began to record the creatures growth progress through a personal journal and video logs. The homunculus would soon outgrow its small glass flask and moved it to a crude new flask, a large aquarium.

He did not know if the creature within the glass retained consciousness or if it even has any scrap of Ava within it but everyday Flamel would speak to it as if it were her. Inside the tank though, the homunculus could vaguely hear a noise. It didn’t understand what this noise was but it was comforting. It soon was able to make out sounds it heard frequently such as ‘Ava’ and ‘I love you’ though what these meant it did not know.

Over the next six months Flamel would watch as his creation form into an actual human figure, a girl. And over these months the homunculus began to become more and more conscious. However Flamel’s welcome in Arkham was coming to a close. He had given the mafia all he could to stow him away and provide him with supplies but he had run out of funds and the mafia began to see him as a liability with his sanity wearing thin.

For weeks the homunculus did not hear the noise, the outside world had become silent. At first the homunculus felt nothing towards the silence, the noise would return as it always did. But more time had past, and the silence remained and the homunculus felt something that she never did before. An incredible sensation that she could only describe as pain.

As a homunculus, Ava has an incredible physiology. She is resistant to most toxins and disease, can survive under harsh temperatures and without oxygen, and is self-sustained (though she can still eat and taste food it is a luxury not a need).

Ava also has amazing regenerative abilities and cannot feel physical pain, she can heal small wounds almost instantly but more serious injuries such as losing a limb may take time to generate properly. The only part of her body susceptible to pain and damage is her philosopher's stone core located where her heart would be.

If Ava is substantially wounded, or if her philosopher’s stone is damaged she may go ‘dormant’ to focus all of her energy on healing.

Ava does not age and her body is practically indestructible however she is not immortal. The only way Ava can die is if her stone is destroyed, even if the stone is removed from her body if it is returned she will be revived as the stone acts as her soul. Though with the stone removed Ava’s body will begin to deteriorate like a corpse, once the stone is returned however her body will be flushed with life again.





Ava exhibits enhanced abilities and can perform feats that humans are not capable of. Such as having superior strength comparative to her physical appearance. Ava is able to lift objects that are almost ten times her size and weight.

She has enhanced senses and reflexes. She can hear and see things far better than a human, and coupled with her amazing reflexes she almost seems to see things before they happen to the average person.

Ava does not generate energy from food, water, or sleep. She has an incredible, almost endless amount of stamina but she does have her limits. If she exceeds her limits or becomes severely injured she must rest and let her body regenerate.




Being infused with a philosopher’s stone is how Ava’s body was able to mature enough to maintain a completely humanoid shape and live outside of her flask. Her body is merely a shell and the stone acts as her soul. Without the stone Ava’s body will wither and die.

But if the stone houses Ava’s conscience, even if her body is destroyed the stone can be transferred to a new shell and she will live again.

The philosopher’s stone is said to be able to perform miracles, such as turning lead into gold or cure incurable illnesses. The philosopher’s stone is a sought after artifact that many alchemists have spent their lives in search of, its power is seemingly limitless and can provide it’s wielder with godlike abilities.

Ava has yet to unlock and harness the powers of her stone. For now they are dormant.
