she worked her way to the front of the compound, stretching. it was nice to be in a simpler attire for once; just a plain tank top and jeans, nothing more or less, not even anything in her hair to keep it from becoming an unruly mess. no need to concern herself with all of that today; it was just going to be about aquainting herself with her new stomping ground, given that she was going to be in the lafayette area until further notice.
she was well liked, they told her, and a good public face to give the locals some hope. abigail also had her own reasons; she loved to travel, and the idea of trying out an entirely new city's worth of cuisine excited her. with her enhanced metabolism, the girl could eat, and she wanted to stuff her face full. hopefully her escort would do just that.
yeah, that was the other thing: something about making relations with the local law enforcement or blahblahblah. she only half listened to that part - being friends was a easy task for her, as long as they knew how to have fun. donning a pair of thick black ray bans, she pushed the door open and stepped out, looking around for whoever was supposed to be her ride. rougarou

Of all people, why was he the one that got to be a tour guide?
Officer Hudson thought he was more valuable than that. He could’ve been working with a youth organization right now, or even on the beat, but instead, the captain decided he was of more use showing a new hero around town. Running around in uniform in the swampy mid-July heat was not his idea of a good shift.
At least he wrangled use of the squad car for today, leaving his partner to do paperwork at the station. “LAFAYETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT” was emblazoned across the side of the white sedan, clearly marking it as one of the few police vehicles Lafayette owned. One of the lights on top didn’t quite work right, but the few high speed chases they went on meant nobody outside of its drivers knew.
River adjusted the side view mirror just in time to see the grand doors open up and a bluenette to walk out. He straightened up immediately, tossing his casual cowboy hat on the dash and donning the regulation police cap in its place. She was a lot younger than the brief made her out to be--was she even old enough to drink? He opened the driver’s side door, and stepped out of the air conditioned car into the sweltering sun.
”Miss Franchise!” he called, waving her over with a friendly smile, ”How’re you today?” Now that he got a closer look, she looked more ready for a trip to Starbucks than a tour of the town. His smile didn’t waver. ”I’m Officer Hudson, I’ll be showing you around today.”

her smile spread wide when she saw the officer. he looked scruffy, but it somehow fit the town; like he had been home-grown right here, and the facial hair gave him a good, older look. altogether, he wasn't too bad to look at; like some kind of fun old man. the accent registered somewhere south, but wasnt clear enough to single out a location.
she rolled her shoulders and stepped forward, pep in each step, and shoved her hand out - for a fist bump, but ready to transition into a handshake if he wasn't hip enough for it. "huuuuudson, my man for the day! what are we gunna be up to? i heard there's some neat sights to see around here, right? i'm pretty excited."
then, without waiting, she abused a bit of her unnatural strength to tug him in and wrap a hand around his waist - free hand had a phone out, and a click popped off as she let go and stared down at the device. "ha, niiiice, very natural, man." she put off putting filters on for the moment to nod her head back at him in approval. "you can just call me abigail, by the way. franchise gets a bit pretentious if its just gunna be me'n'you, you feel?" rougarou

He didn’t keep up with the popular heroes these days, so he didn’t know what to expect with this Franchise woman--but he definitely didn’t expect that. A casual, hip young woman who approached him with a fist bump of all things. It was a nice change of pace from the regular officials with sticks up their asses. Chuckling, he returned the knuckle pound.
”Lafayette’s definitely no sightseeing destination,” he replied, amused by her excitement, ”but there are a couple interesting places hidden around tow--woah, there!” Okay, maybe she was a little too familiar. They just met and she was already copping a feel for his waist, of all places. What she snapped was a great picture of Officer River staring in confusion at the front camera. ”Tag the department,” is all he can say after that startling event.
She was right back to normal, hands-off business. He faked an unconvincing cough into his fist and adjusted his cap. ”Right, uh… Miss Abigail.” He couldn’t shake the Miss/Mister, no matter how hard he tried. He hoped she wouldn’t mind.
The officer walked around the front of the stalled car, and held open the passenger door for her. ”We’ve got a lot to see, and not much time,” that was a lie, but he didn’t want to be on tour duty for longer than necessary, ”so we should probably get going.”

hashtag good times hashtag lafayettes finest hashtag lpd; with that, the picture was up and live on her twitter. the beaming smile from franchise bounced off of the officer's confused expression wonderfully, and she let out a chuckle as she reviewed the picture. "alright, man, no sweat. i gotcha."
she hopped into the open passenger seat, shifting around to get comfortable. "nice ride, man," said someone who didn't know how to properly drive. when you had people to drive you - combined with friends who could open portals, fly, or float you places - you tended not to know how. plus, going to the DMV as a registered hero was... problematic. she still had pictures from when one of her fellow heroes tried. the entire place was crowded with paparazzi in seconds, and they had to close down for the day.
"i mean, honestly speaking, this place seems nicer than kingsport. what kind of action you guys get around here? anything i can do 'bout it? Also, we getting food while we're out? I'm craving." a barrage of questions that didn't stop as she studied the interior of the car to the best of her abilities. rougarou

River made a mental note to search for her Twitter later so he could retweet the picture. His buddies at the department would love to see him all starstruck like that, even if he was more confused than anything.
Thank goodness she didn’t take the driver’s seat instead. With the way she acted, it was a very real possibility. ”Uh, thanks,” he grinned, a bit of pride making its way past the befuddlement. He gently shut the door behind her and stepped around the car to slide into his seat. The officer did his best to check off his pre-driving list while she assaulted him with questions; check the rear view mirror, check the side view mirrors, buckle his seatbelt, ensure the radio’s set to modern country.
”In a way, it’s a ton nicer than Kingsport. Not as much pollution or random supervillain attacks.” Realizing she doesn’t seem like a country girl, he switches the radio off instead, and shifts to drive. ”The worst that’s happened recently is a tossup between a mutant gator crawling out of the bayou and eating a horse and reports of dust floating around town. The drug, not the regular stuff, I mean.”
Like that, they’re driving off the compound at a leisurely pace and heading to the town center. ”As far as what you can do in particular, that’s not really my job to say,” he added, frowning and furrowing his thick brows at that, ”My opinion doesn’t mean much when it comes to assignments.” He shifted uneasily in his seat. That was approaching station politics, which nobody wanted to hear about. He changed the topic instead.
”Are you in a burgers and fries mood or a fried chicken mood?” The cop glanced over to grin at his passenger. Maybe tour duty wouldn’t be so bad.

at first, abigail listened only with the intensity of a college student; taking in everything the officer was saying, but not really reacting. then he ticked off the part about a mutant gator and she turned to him, practically all smiles, eyes alight at the prospect - if they werent concealed behind ray ban shades, at any rate.
a laugh left her lips. "oh man, i am so going to wrestle that gator," with all the seriousness she can bring up while its captured by her enthusiasm. it softens back once she takes in the rest of it, and lets out a harumph. "dust this, dust that. i don't get why we can't stamp it out once and for all... feels like, each time we kick some dealer's face in, there's two more, y'know?"
that was always a problem with heroics. sometimes, you felt like a maid, in a way; hey, i just cleaned up that mess! can't the world stay fixed for five minutes! but that was idealistic at best. the good officer seemed to have a similar situation with his station, but... well, no use dwelling.
she faked a look of thinking and concern, then grinned wide. "let's get some burgers, man," and finally found what she was looking for in the car earlier. aux cord popped out of one of her pants pockets, plugged into phone then the car; she had a bad habit of not asking permission for this kind of thing, but it wouldn't matter the next moment because the car was filled with the sounds of music.
