[nospaces] [attr="class","amberbg"] [attr="class","ambertextbody"] [attr="class","ambertextbody2"]It was late in the afternoon, approaching about five o'clock. People were leaving for the day, or simply to go get dinner. Some others were just coming in for the day too. It was pretty normal, pretty standard. And like many others, Amber was trying to finish up some of her work. She sat in the middle of one of the computer rooms, sitting cross legged on the chair with her eyes closed. She was unaware of her surroundings in real life, but most knew to leave her alone and not disturb her work. Because believe it or not, she was actually working. [break][break] Within the computer she sat in front of, Amber walked around freely within the cyber world. Her avatar reflecting her physical appearance spot on, even copying the mess of a bedhead she had as well as the jeans she wore. It was a pretty lazy day for her, nothing much needed to be done and there were no missions she needed to help on either. So with the day mostly free, the first thing Amber did when she got out of bed was to head to the Compound and start on the massive pile of paperwork and filing that needed to be done. It was a mix of hero files, general information about the public, etc. The boring things like that. [break][break] Her cyber avatar self walked around the digital library, filing away the folders into the drawers and closing them for later. It was much easier for Amber to work within the computer than with a keyboard and mouse. For her anyway. It was quicker and much more effective. She hummed quietly to herself and idly picked up more files, seeing what they were named and label and processing them to put away. It was a pretty boring, and she didn't expect anything to happen that was out of the ordinary. Part of her wished something interesting popped up, she was getting a little bored out of her mind. If only secretary work was interesting.

Entering the Initiative Database was, believe it or not, still a hard thing for Alice. For one, the ones who set up the whole thing obviously had security in mind; while a fair amount of information about heroes were part of the public domain--- one of the reasons some people prefer to be vigilantes, to keep their identities secret--- of course the Initiative kept certain information only to themselves. So, not only was the system of the database in a completely different network from the one that people normally used for the Internet, but of course the way between both networks was rigged with lots of passwords and checks and whatnot. From Alice's perspective, such things were the equivalent of an Indiana Jones-style series of deathtraps.
It had taken a while, but finally she was here. Hopefully she could make it back. This little reckless trip was... well, she kinda learned how to make a back-up of herself some days ago, thanks to the wonderful and less secure servers of Oricon (well, the good stuff was still really secure, but all she needed for her ability was processing power). Well, while she said 'back-up', the other Alice was just as much Alice as she was. It raised all sorts of existential questions, she was sure, but the two of them agreed to not think too deeply about it. Either way, if she got caught or deleted here, there would still be an Alice around. ...although of course, personally speaking as this iteration, she didn't want to die. Dying once was gruesome enough.
Ah, yes. Why was she here in the first place? Perhaps it was a long shot, but... she wanted more information about her father. For better or for worse, her deceased parent was secretive--- but maybe the snoops of the Initiative had information that they managed to wrangle. How could the villains who killed them knew who he was? Who could be his possible enemies? That sort of thing. And so, a little giddy from getting through the Initiative's cyber defenses--- not a mean feat, as already detailed--- she waltzed around the database, following threads here and there for the mention of an Electromancer, whistling a jaunty tune to herself...
...and almost collided with... another person? Wait, what?

[nospaces] [attr="class","amberbg"] [attr="class","ambertextbody"] [attr="class","ambertextbody2"]One last file to put away and Amber was finished for the day. She walked down the last aisle and ran her fingers along the cabinets, drawing a line until she found the correct drawer. Once that was finished, she clapped her hands and brushed off any digital dust that was on them. "There. All finished." Now that was all finished, Amber started to walk out of the aisle. She always liked double checking to make sure no files were left unsorted. [break][break] As she turned the corner, one thing she wasn't expecting to find was another person. Was it a person? Amber wasn't really sure. They nearly collided into each other. If it wasn't for the fact that Amber got startled and stumbled backwards, they probably would have. She hit the digital floor with a grunt, rubbing her backside and looked up. Her eyes widened and a hand slowly rose up to point at Alice. "W-What? No one else should be in here! No one should be in here except me, period!" That shouldn't have been possible. This space, this web space, shouldn't have been accessed by any outside source. Was it a virus infecting the computer? Or someone else's avatar trying to steal some information? Whatever it was, Amber was a bit freaked out and on edge. She never expected to run into someone while working. [break][break] She scrambled to her feet, a laser gun materializing in her hands as soon as she gained her footing. Amber raised and pointed the weapon at the intruder. This definitely wasn't a situation she was used to, her hands shook a tad bit but she kept a steady gaze. "Who are you and what do you want? How'd you get in here?"

"Aaaah!"
It wasn't every day that Alice met someone in the digital spaces within computers and their networks. Well, there was that one time, but beyond that it hadn't been repeated all too often; if there was security lingering within the confines of the database, those were often data drones or creatures of some sort. And they usually didn't come in the shape of a human. So, despite precedent, Alice was still surprised.
...aaaand the girl had materialized a laser gun. That was cheating! She didn't get things like that. She waved her hands to make a makeshift wall out of the files nearby. "Wait, wait, wait, let's not be shooting anybody." she said frantically. "These are not the files you are looking for... okay, that doesn't work."
"Uhhhh... I'm... the Electromancer!" she babbled. While she was holding herself much better than the other person, it was clear she was just as rattled. "...aaaaand yes I guess I'm not supposed to be here. Hahaha." she nervously laughed. "I'm looking for something? I don't suppose you could let me look for it?"
She was ready to slam the files that she could control on the other person if she needed to defend herself.

[nospaces] [attr="class","amberbg"] [attr="class","ambertextbody"] [attr="class","ambertextbody2"]Brow raised and the laser gun glowing, Amber wasn't sure what to think of the being in front of her. They seemed to be sentient, so a virus sent to destroy the files seemed unlikely. Another cyber avatar seemed to be the case here. But she didn't know what their intentions were. She kept the laser gun pointed, backing up slightly to place distance between her and Electromancer, which is what the being called themselves apparently. She would have commended her on the name choice if she wasn't holding her at gun point. It was clever. [break][break] "What is it exactly you're looking for? These files shouldn't be accessible from the inside like this, seeing someone in here with me is kinda sketchy, no reason to trust you really." Amber said, her hold now steadying out and her nerves too. This was definitely a sketchy and worrisome situation. Most of the files in here were just supposed to be accessed by the Initiative themselves, not by any external source. There wasn't exactly a security system placed inside the cyberspace either, so if someone came in through the cyberspace like Electromancer did, they wouldn't exactly be alerted of the situation. Unless someone was in the cyberspace too, like Amber was. [break][break] She kept her distance but the laser gun raised. Electromancer didn't seem hostile at the moment, or harmful for that matter. But Amber didn't want to let her guard down. Just in case Electromancer had a change of heart.

"Ah, well... I kinda slipped in?" she said, honestly, as she kept her eyes on her counterpart.
Was this what they called a Mexican standoff, or something? Although no Mexican probably imagined it would be happening inside a computer.
Well, she lacked a gun, but she could pelt this Initiative person with files the moment she began shooting, although she really didn't want to do that... she was not sure how she would fare against this sort of opponent, in this sort of environment where she actually could be hit.
She weighed her options.
First, she could make a run for it, and return another day, but there was no telling what precautions the Initiative would create when she did so.
Second, she could try to knock this other girl unconscious, but she... wasn't sure if unconsciousness was a thing here in the cyber world. She wouldn't want to kill her or something.
Third, she could talk to her... but what could she say? Which of her intentions could she give away? What piece of truth would make for a good partial lie?
"I... just want to know what files the Initiative have on me?" she said. Well, more like what files they had on the Electromancer, which was somewhat different.
"I need to know something they know. Well, something they might know." With this bit, with this sentence, at least, she was truthful, and deathly serious.
"So, pretty please? I'll just take a peek." Ah, she didn't sound serious again.

[nospaces] [attr="class","amberbg"] [attr="class","ambertextbody"] [attr="class","ambertextbody2"] Amber blinked at the other girl. First of all, she somehow slipped past most of the security that was protecting the information here. Second of all, she needed certain files regarding information about herself. The first thing was definitely sketchy as hell, the second thing was a little... odd. Why would someone need to know what information the Initiative had on them? She tilted her head to the side and her brow furrowed a bit in thought. Amber also wasn't sure if this person was a person, or just a avatar someone was creating from afar. [break][break] She cocked her head to the side and pursed her lips together. "You're very really vague about this, if you want help you need to tell me everything in detail." Amber said simply. However, she got the feeling that this cyberbeing wasn't hostile. If she was, she probably would have attacked by now. It sounded like she just really wanted to get information about herself, for whatever reason. "Who are you exactly? Are you an avatar someone sent in to try and steal the files?"

"Well, of course I'm going to be awfully vague." she whined. "You're probably a hero, right? And I guess I'm a vigilante. Can't really be sure what you guys will do with what I give you." She pouted a bit.
And then something in what the other girl said stood out to her, perhaps a little too late, though. "Wait, help?" she asked. "You mean if I do that you'll help me?" She probably still wasn't comfortable with exposing everything about herself, the nuances of her powers and her existence... but maybe she could specify just what she sought to find... and while her father distrusted the Initiative, he had trusted at least one individual in it... and heroes were actually heroes under the legalese, right? She wavered.
"Mrmmmm, who I am--- well, I told you already, I'm Electromancer." she began. "I guess I can look for you later in the public domain for your face and name, so I'll at least give you this: my real name is Alice." she said, introducing herself, although at the same time still keeping her barricade of files ready and waiting.
"Avatar... ah, is that what you're doing? Your real body's somewhere else?" she deduces. "I'm nothing of the sort. I'm here in the flesh." She stuck out her tongue. "Well, if flesh was bytes and pixels, haha. I have no plans of stealing files. Copying them, maybe? So I guess my crime will be piracy?" she joked. "Arrrr." She could just memorize the important information, though. Less baggage that way.
If answering her questions could give her the files without this turning bloody--- well, figuratively speaking--- that would be nice.
