It all began when she stumbled upon a strange piece of news, as she floated around in the Internet.
Now, Kingsport, by its nature as a melting pot of various powered and skilled people, always had interesting news. A magician here, a bunch of robots there, perhaps somewhere else it would be a headline, but here it would just be one of many. It was almost like reading fiction... except for the painful part where people sometimes died as a result. So when Alice stumbled upon this certain bit of news... she was interested not simply because it was interesting... but because she might be able to do something about it.
Karl Jansing was... well, if she would be honest, she had no idea who he was moments ago, but consulting the internet hivemind painted her quite the vivid picture: a genius programmer--- perhaps almost as good as her father, though she was a bit biased in that front, and her father had robots too. Now, what happened to him? Well, his wife had reported him missing... leaving behind a trio of computer screens saying... 'I GOT IN'.
...now... where could he have gotten in? She had an inkling, and some of Karl's colleagues have similar opinions--- that he might have entered the digital world--- a world she frequented. Now, of course, this was all fine and dandy, a breakthrough... most people she knew so far could only project their consciousness into the electric domain, and she didn't quite count since she was mostly just consciousness. For him to have put his body in... she kept track of possible news, possible teleportation shenanigans, alternate explanations, although none reached her at the moment... where was he now in the digital world?
Did his avatar follow the same rules as certain people she had encountered within the networks? Can he come back? ...at least his wife would like him to come back. What was he thinking, doing something like that without informing his spouse first? She huffed a bit. People really should treasure their loved ones more. They could vanish in the blink of an eye... although Mister Karl seemed to be the one intent on vanishing.
Having satisfied her need for information, she plunged into the endeavor. The best starting point would probably be his computers...she began to make her way through cables and signals... but it seemed there was someone else already in his systems when she arrived.

[nospaces] [attr="class","amberbg"] [attr="class","ambertextbody"] [attr="class","ambertextbody2"]It was no surprise that the Initiative sent Amber out on this mission. Karl Jansing, a genius programmer who went missing a couple of days ago. The only trace left of him was a message left on his monitors: I GOT IN. His wife had desperately tried to contact the Initiative to get someone who could try and bring him back from... wherever he was. And that's where Amber came in. Her technology based abilities made her the perfect candidate for this mission. [break][break] When she had gotten to the house, the first thing Amber requested was to be left alone. The second thing she requested was for the room to be guarded so no one would enter. Once those requirements were met, she sat down on the chair and closed her eyes. Her hands hovered over the keyboard as she focused. Soon enough, Amber had connected herself with the computer and sent her cyber avatar in. [break][break] Once inside, Amber started looking through files. And boy, there sure was a lot of them. Multiple notepad documents, programming files, even audio recordings of his findings. Most hinted towards the fact that he went somewhere to escape. Somewhere in the virtual world. It didn't take long for her to access all of Karl's journal entries. Most of them were him rambling about this promised land he found, or rather created, and his body and mind were somehow implanted in it. Well, that was new. Amber had never met someone who could transfer their body into the digital world too. [break][break] Suddenly, there was movement behind her. Amber shut the file she had found and shoved it under her arm, turning around swiftly and taking a few steps back. She brought her arm up to summon a weapon but paused when she saw the familiar electromagnetic ghost appearing within the cyberspace. She paused for a moment, blinking at her. "Alice? What are you doing here?" [break][break] ooc: hopefully this works! i worked off them meeting in the other thread and assumed that she'd at least tell amber her name. cx if this doesn't work out let me know!

"Amber~ hiiii~"
As soon as she was sure the technopath wouldn't summon a weapon--- meaning her being startled by her presence was done--- she jumped to glomp the other girl's cyber avatar. "Well, I'm here... probably the same reason as you. This is Karl Jansing's computer, right?" she began, even as she remained hugging. It took a moment before she relinquished her hold. Hey, hugging was addictive to ghosts who can't touch people.
"I'm guessing the Initiative sent you to investigate his disappearance, right?" she said, going to business. "I've heard of it through the Internet grapevine, and I thought it might be something I can help with--- it's not like every problem is technological in nature, so I tend to end up calling you guys' hotline." she huffed. "So, truce? Let's help each other find ol' Karly?"
"So, you've taken a look at his stuff already? What does it say?" While she asked her, she did her little magic to read some files as well, the data dancing in front of her for her leisure--- and cheated a bit. Karl's hardware set-up was good enough to increase her reading speed. "Hrm, so rumors are probably true, he probably jumped into somewhere here, somehow..." she said.
She hadn't managed to find a possible clue how he did it, or where in cyberspace was he, though... at least not yet. Maybe she'll have to dig deeper... or had Amber found something she missed?
