you texted me some clear ideas earlier so i’ll expand on how i interpret them here! the idea that max’s psionics make him ever so more susceptible emi’s unnatural presence is 1♡♡% supported by me. the superpowered equivalent of an allergy. max’s auto-immune system i.e. psionic shields going mental over the guy opposite him on the crowded subway who is leafing through a dog-eared copy of the notebook.

tbqh, i am not entirely sure max’s powers wouldn’t work on emi. i guess he’s the sort of guy who has to have inverted commas around ‘human’ as he somehow hosts a little morsel of an unimaginable elder god as his eye. what is emi. is he a person? is he cxaxukluth’s secret lovechild? find out on next week’s episode of jerry springer. whatever it is, perhaps max’s powers don’t work that well or not in the appropriate manner, but i’m game for an abnormal reaction getting max’s attention. cue the potential, and in my mind surprisingly awkward, confrontation.

but lbr, a man with max’s stubbornness and complete incomprehension of long-term planning gives me a lot of potential with emi. just ignore that bad feeling, max. push through it. obviously, max has his cunning and deceit which would be an interesting match against emi’s preternatural wiles. emi likes psionics. he just also likes his official position as Totally Normal Civilian.

i’d be up for threading the set-up you described but you probably have more ideas to add to this. up for starting too! just hit me back olly, tell me what works and what doesn’t. these two can get along, i’m sure, it just comes with Consequences™.

i love it tbh, the subway thing: max getting this GIGANTIC MIGRAINE when the weird dude sits down opposite and he's probably not allergic to nicholas sparks so... 

BUT THAT COULD BE MORE INTERESTING TBH? like. managing to get in, seeing something he probably shouldn't n then lil god fragment intervening like DO NOT. cue max getting thrown our and the subsequent nosebleed ruining his work shirt. probably v awkward and i love it

BASICALL YEAH I love the idea and i especially like the idea of the kinda. quiet sinister influence both via the cult n freemasons. i feel like we should kinda start threading n see how it works w them before we start plotting anything further but im excited about the possibilities!

VALKYRIE yo deads ily AND I LOVE YR IDEAS ok so i too love dual identity shenanigans and thalia is a babe! i love her inner conflict w her psi powers compared to the way max embraces and constantly refines his powers, and the contrast between her constant use without thought of her power and max's extremely fine control. SGOOD. and she is so lovely, he would be kinda powerless to ignore her. whether she would be that successful, nobody can say just yet :'D id love to thread them! given her impenetrable mental defences he would be essentially powerless against her so what i'd suggest is that they meet as civilians first, then as capes: that would set up a chance for him to escape and then for her to be trying to convince him to give up the life of crime???

aegis YES GOOD. max's talent really lies in his excellent control and delicate touch with his powers, so he would definitely be able to dig into blocked/fragmented memories and try to piece them together. what i'd maybe suggest is that when aegis makes his escape from spectre max could find and maybe shelter him for a lil while? he is the biggest sucker for ppl in need as much as he tries not 2 be

YEAH sophia is rad! max is not particularly important, he's probably got a fairly secure position in a product design team that don't do particularly sexy work, but he shows up to the parties and quietly instigates the drama at the canapé table. polite enough, especially to the boss' wife, but he has a fairly wicked sense of humour and he's also a fairly unconventional soul. not sure how she'd feel about him given that, but who knows. 

GIVEN THEIR SEKRET IDENTITIES THO. I agree that they probably wouldn't clash, max's villainy doesn't intersect w her activity, BUT i kinda have an idea? max is kind of a sucker for helping out people in dire need should he happen to know/take an interest in them, so the idea of them having a kind of weird uneasy partnership over a missing persons case? nemesis helping to forcibly haul locations out of traffickers? im thinking probably a girl living in his building, same age as his youngest sister, so idk. wat u think toska tell me

as far as monkey goes i honestly think max'd find the whole monkey kingpin thing thoroughly intimidating but i kinda have an idea ab that too? if he managed to get himself in debt somehow to monkey, having to ask for favours to get out of a tight spot, and then finding himself kind of cornered into helping out that way...?

monkey i kinda love it tbh? like i was thinking he maybe had to fence something mystical n cursed in a hurry and had to come 2 don of the monkey mafia 2 offload it and now its just like. u still owe me maxie. u still owe me big time
