i'll stay frozenunder your eyes When Sophia think about the heroes within the Initiative, even she is swayed by the images of fancy sports cars and imported wines. When she phases through Valkyrie's door, she thinks that she's got the wrong room at first. She looks down at the doormat - ah. Those are the shoes that Valkyrie had worn to the cafe. She walks in and pulls out the metal chair. She takes a seat. She may be a suspicious killer in a black helmet, but that didn't mean that Valkyrie had to catch her hovering around her apartment like a creep. Sophia held personal privacy to be sacred, and her attitude carried over even as she was breaking and entering an apartment. Physis stares at the bottle of bourbon guiltily. There's not much for her to be intruding on, but Thalia ate and slept and drank here. That was enough for Physis to feel skittish about being here. She hears the sound of someone unlocking the door. Physis feels her stomach lurch. She really doesn't want to be here, but necessity demanded it. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

The walk down the hallway is depressingly long. Her key sticks in the lock, and Thalia rattles it furiously for a few minutes before losing her patience and ripping the handle off.
The door swings open with a mournful creak, and there's someone sitting in her apartment, her face obscured behind a mask. Thalia's impatience and exhaustion are gone beneath a crashing wave of adrenaline and fear. Her blood thickens. Her heart flutters like a bird with a broken wing, but she keeps a mask of cool serenity in place, even as her left hand swings forward, palm-up and ready to blast away.
"What are you doing here?" she asks. She doesn't ask who the woman is. She's seen her before, and beside that, anyone who wears a motorcycle helmet for house calls doesn't go around saying who they are.

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes Sophia had stolen the letter from Zahir's desk that morning. He had been writing to so many government agencies, it seemed plausible that he wouldn't miss one swiped letter. Physis produces a folded piece of heavy paper with Oricon's company seal on it. The individual names and signatures have all been blacked out. She holds it out to Thalia. "The Atlantic Penitentiary blueprints have been stolen. Some of the most dangerous criminals on the coast are being held there. I expect this to hit the news tomorrow." The letter emphasized the extremely high level of security that Oricon had undertaken. The jargon was mostly to offset legal liability against the company, but also Zahir's professional pride. While he had thrown something of a mini-tantrum about the security designs, Physis had a very different concern. "I understand that you are highly regarded by the Initiative." She understands how these hierarchical structures work. The idiots who don't shut up aren't the ones who get promoted. "I assume that means that you are capable of exercising discretion."If they already have a potential case of jailbreak, she didn't want to scale up the hysteria. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

She reaches out for the letter with the same hand she was prepared to blast the woman away with, and scans through it quickly. It's a complicated document, but the gist becomes clear enough.
"You understand correctly, but I have pink hair," Thalia says. "I know how to keep my mouth shut, but they don't use me for undercover work for a reason."
She looks at the letter again, as if drawn with a magnet. It's crumpled a little in her hand. Her grip has tightened without her realizing. She smooths it back out with precise care.
"Why did you come to me?" she asks, because she wants to hear it out loud.

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes "This operation is too important for me to attempt alone."She's ready to disintegrate and leave by falling through the floor, should negotiations fall through. Physis stands up and looks (presumably) at Thalia. It's a little harder to tell behind a blacked out visor. "You aren't like the others. You appreciate the weight of failure." A lot of heroes would dance around the possibility. Failure is conditional for those who have too much glory under their belt. Physis doesn't think so. Failure is composed of shards of glass that all threaten to pierce the chest cavity. If Valkyrie felt the same, then she's only woman that Physis wants by her side for this operation. If not - she loses nothing. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

Her expression is smooth and unruffled. Her face is the quiet, still face of the ocean, ready to drag you down and drown you in uncharted depths, where your bones will turn to dust on in dark trenches that no living man has ever visited.
She doesn't know if the other woman means for her words to bite like a steel-tipped whip, but they do. She doesn't know if she means them as an insult, a scourge, but they are.
Thalia knows exactly the weight of failure, and the price of it, and the burden of its keeping.
And for something like this, a failure of this magnitude, she has no choice but to trust the messenger. She has no choice but to not care if the words are meant to bite and rend with shining, bloody claws. Because she has no choice but to fix this, with or without the woman.
"I'm going to need something to call you," she says. "On the mission."

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes They call her many things, most notably the Ghost of Arkham. She calls herself - "Physis will do."It is a hated name, but a name that has outlasted her enemies. "I don't know who the perpetrators are, but we both know where they will be. Let us assume the worst, that the prison has already been compromised. We can work from there." And there it is, the real reason Physis risked breaking into the Initiative compound. "I need you to talk to the guards. I will convince the prisoners that I am on their rescue team. We can ferret out the informant on both sides."
It's a risky plan, and it means getting her vigilante identity out to more people. It's a risk that she will take, for the sake of keeping those men behind bars. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

She lets herself smile. It's crooked. That's how you know it isn't real.
"I'd introduce myself, but it seems pointless."
She listens intently, though. As far as plans go she's heard better, but she's also heard a lot worse, and while Physis isn't holding all the cards, she's certainly got most of them. And she trusted (?) Thalia with this. She'll let her take the lead, for now.
No guarantees. She isn't a knife for just anyone to pick up.
"I can get us there two ways," she says. "Official Initiative transport or just me. You'll be easier to hide on the transport, but it might take longer to acquire."

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes In truth, she held a lot more cards than Thalia knew, but Physis isn't so eager to implicate her civilian identity. "I can get us a car faster. Off the record." She shouldn't have to steal a car, but Physis is picky about paper trails. "Excuse me if I don't fancy flying."She's rather bemused by the mental image of Valkyrie flying the two of them to the penitentiary. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

...
There's already a downside to a secret mission off the record with a known vigilante. How surprising.
"As long as you leave the car with me when we're done," she says firmly. The Initiative can make amends--and smooth ruffled feathers--over a car being stolen to potentially save the world better than some girl in a motorcycle helmet who stole it in the first place. "We're much better suited to uh, assuage the owner's feelings."
And then she suppresses a sigh. Physis will probably want to drive as well.
Thalia wishes they were flying in one of the Initiative's cars and they haven't even stolen anything yet.

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes Physis actually tuts a little. "Whatever helps you sleep tonight."She can only begin to imagine the fallout of Valkyrie's last mission involving a dying child. "Shotgun."Sophia doesn't actually drive most of the time. It's one of the perils of having her own chauffeur. VALKYRIE made by redox of gs

Thalia drives with the reckless entitlement of a woman who knows that if anyone pulls her over, nothing is happening. She speeds. She speeds a lot. She considers going ten over the speed limit to be slowing down. She takes turns on two wheels, but it's even better if she can take them on one.
She likes things that go very fast, and things that explode, and best of all are things that can do both. It's why she loves the flying cars so much. But a regular car will suffice.
When they arrive at the penitentiary, she's in a great mood.

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes "Give me... a moment."Physis probably looks slightly green underneath the helmet. She sounds like she's about to throw up. Which would be unpleasant, since none of that vomit is going to go anywhere. She's aware that she can't get past the guards with a mask on, but she's not about to remove it either. She tosses Thalia a headset. It wouldn't look too out of place on a member of law enforcement. Her own is already attached to the helmet. "Let's... let's hurry."She gets out of the car, only to see an approaching guard. Now it's all up to Thalia to distract him, else Physis is liable to knock him unconscious. She puts on the headset that Physis tosses her and puts on her own mask as well; invisible, maybe, to anyone who isn't looking for it, but it's there and real nonetheless: a carefully fixed smile, the tilt of her head, the aggressive way she nearly bowls the poor guard over as she approaches him and reels him into conversation.
By the time she and the unfortunate man have parted ways, Thalia has signed two autographs for his children, obtained one visitor's pass for herself, albeit a visitor's pass with slightly more clearance than normal, and Physis has had ample amount of time to disappear without a trace.
"Was there someone else with you?" The guard asks, still looking a little dazed, and Thalia shakes her head, laughing a little: "Oh no, I don't have a sidekick!"

i'll stay frozenunder your eyes Physis walked outside of the compound and ducked inside of the wall whenever she heard footsteps approach. She heads for the high security holding cells, the compound where all the competent criminals should be. When she sets foot inside of the building, she expects to see maybe one or two guards. She expects to see cells of miserable prisoners. Instead, she sees no one. There are no guards present. The camera heads aren't even moving. "Valkyrie, there's something wrong with the northern ward. I don't see guards. Security is disabled." There's one cell door at the end of the hall that remains wide open. Every instinct screamed at Physis in that moment. It was wrong, so completely wrong. But curiosity muffles reason. Curiosity is what drives children out into the wilds to seek wolves, even as their mothers warn them of their evils. She looks inside. A nicotine stained smile, and a filthy old man to match. "You're late, Handmaiden." A trap--She doesn't even get to finish the thought as something solid tases her from behind. Valkyrie would hear a sharp gasp of pain before Physis hit the floor. VALKYRIE (feel free to make up why the guards are allowing/ignorant of this happening) made by redox of gs
