i've seen people going about tossing around various ideas as to the supposed 'origin of magic', as well as one character in particular being the 'center of all magic', but i think one of the really excellent parts of this site is its 'anything goes' nature-- you can have characters from all sorts of weird alien dimensions and powers from every-which thing you could really care for, and that really makes for the eclectic and varied cast and the ability for people to really roleplay what they want to. freedom to create = more for the roleplayer to do!
as such, i think it would be incredibly limiting and, honestly, sort of silly, that there should be any unified 'theory of all magic' for this site, at least not in specifics, and especially not in giving any one character full domain over 'all magical energies everywhere'. honestly, it's much more exciting and opening from a plot perspective for it to just be some 'weird mysterious mystical thing' and, if someone wants to throw in one idea for the origin of their character's mystical prowess, they should totally go for it!-- just not also be limiting of other rpers' abilities to scrap up something of their own, too. then it becomes a whole thing of 'i was here first and this is how it goes'.
additionally, i know there's been a slight trend of different people trying to one-up eachother, but the whole enforcement of the 'hey yall dont make a bunch of godhead characters' and the general lowering in the ranks new characters have been given (arbitrary as they are) has been really working out. i dunno about you, but i think street-level hijinks are some of the best. it's definitely something i, personally, want to see more of, as opposed to everyone fighting to be the edgiest, anyway. not to suggest you can't enjoy yourself with a character with a sort of dark and troubled past, of course, but when it comes to the point where you're literally just adding more conflict and strife for your character just for the sake of being cooler than other people, well, that's just a bit excessive.
(note that this isn't throwing shade at our current site event, phoenix force; i like to imagine psionics are another beast entirely! and if it's dictated site canon that all psychic shenanigans come from this malevolent, well, thing, that's site canon.)
tl;dr -- don't let one single character control all of the magic in the multiverse. don't be one-upping eachother and jerking off about whose character is the strongest/coolest/edgiest in the cbox. continue the trend of less characters being given high ranks. |

imo this entire discussion about "supreme lord of all power" is pointless because who is going to enforce it
is someone going to bust into your thread guns blazing if you say that your power comes from a magical rock in the ocean? PROBABLY NOT
please guys just calm down and have fun. if people want streetlevel plots then they should just make them, damn whatever else is going on outside of your thread |

honestly you're completely right-- and i especially love "damn whatever else is going on outside of your thread". i think i'm going to make that my new mantra, tbh.
on second thought this thread honestly probably wasn't all that necessary but i'd feel there wouldn't be much integrity in just deleting it so i guess i'll just leave it up if anyone else has somethin to say about it but otherwise toska's effectively helped me change my perspective so i'm personally done for now |

I really don't know the context of this thread but i do want to contribute a little.
It's pretty hard being the "first" on something without clashing onto other lores that may come. Ryou being the first dragon made me wonder how other people wanting to rp dragons could go about it, or if there are mentions of dragons in backgrounds. It's partly why i scan through most apps to check to make sure that i plot with them and just wing it.
There's also ruler who is related to fomalhaut and i was allowed by the staff to make headcanons for them, which is pretty big since they're part of site history and many characters' histories who were involved in the invasion. I just write it up in the development forum in hopes that people would see xD
There's no real safe way to go about it. But hopefully it would be nothing that talking can't fix. There are so many magic peeps around so i can imagine how hard that might be.

I mean, effectively when you have a sort of 'anything goes' type of site, you're going to have powergaming/powerscaling, simply out of three things. 1.) Fear that your character is going to get scrubbed out by the people with more all encompassing abilities, 2.) It makes for great plot alternatives when your character is basically capable of a lot of things instead of just being niche, 3.) To lord over people who are smaller than you on the powerscale. Personally to me its w/e. The fact this hasn't turned into a warmongering site means its probably the first 2 options rather than the 3rd. Furthermore even if the all encompassing magic dude scrubs you out/turns off your magic, this is a Superhero RP lol, finality in death is basically a choice. Iunno, I just like the concept, this is bout the first RP forum that just said 'Go nuts'. Not to mention that dudes origin story doesn't even have to be tethered to your magic. He could be all encompassing magic dude all he wants, but there are so many plot ways and loopholes around that lol. What can he do when you say you're the anomaly and your magic comes from somewhere else? Nadda. Only annoyances are really the C-box e-peening. But that's rare asf. So lets just have fun man.  |

Closing this thread (I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but please don't make threads like this), but generally echoing Toska/Physis on this. GG is an anything goes site in haywire comics tradition. You are free to do whatever you want with your power, as long as it doesn't infringe upon other people (without permission). No one can tell you you can or can't do something in regards to your own character. |
